  1. As per title, are there any rifle clubs with ranges near Banbury that can be recommended or folks have experience of.? A quick trawl does not show anything up? Cheers Terry
  2. Gents, the round robin’ is simply to remove the potential differences in barrel condition, not ‘voodoo’. Some barrels like a few rounds down them after thorough cleaning - I won’t even start on cleaning - easier to talk about Brexit/religion etc! The thought behind it is the different loads will experience an even degree of barrel fouling as the testing progresses. So removing PBG’s potential issue, as he cleans his rifles after every shoot, so after a couple of sighted/fouler his fist test group sees the barrel in condition X, his next group condition Y etc. But if you fire sequentially (round robin) then the different loads see the same degree of fouling i.e. if your barrel needs say 20 rounds to settle down then not using the round robin only your last test groups see the best barrel condition. Personally I do not do round robin as I do not clean the snot out of my barrels every time I shoot, have yet to see why?
  3. Brillo not sure if it is a local or global thing but no one under the age of 14 are allowed to shoot on the military ranges we typically use ie Warminster and Langport brgds Terry
  4. 6.5 Shooter, Just set up the FL dies to only bump the shoulder back by your desired amount 1-2 thou. As PbG said, you will be doing the minimum amount of sizing on the body of the brass, a FL sizer is to 'smash' a case back to the minimum spec. to fit into any rifle, not specifically yours. T
  5. Jimmy I ended up with the Viperflex , then would whistle but one set just wrap them in 100mph tape, not as if you are going to keep adjusting therm? Very stable and deeply easily. Bit on the ££ side though! T
  6. Mr Egg The 90 is also a step up in size as well, it is bad enough having to need a tripod so keeping it compact came into play Ill take some snaps and post Gazza if not using a clamp like the hog saddle then a ball head that gripped a rail on your rifle would be the way to go. I’m actually thinking a low profile ball head under the hog saddle? the 80’s levelling cup is OK for 10-15 SEG in all directions but a ball head would give more flexibility T
  7. I obtained an Innorel 80 via a Chinese direct site, turned up and is nicely made. Can only assume the 90 is of similar quality. As I’m not planning to run a silly heavy rifle (my stick is about 15 pounds) the 44 pound rating of the 80 is quite up to the job. At just over £100 for the tripod and adding the monkey clamp thing it is very stable. Does not have the bragging rights of RRS etc. But at a 1/10 the cost who cares 😎 😂 T
  8. Nice rifle Dave - but 26 pounds 😯 gosh
  9. Pete, Apart from Lee for general reloading dies and Innovative Technologies belted magnum die (which is very good BTW) do not know of any other collet type of die? Agree, once fettled the Lee sizer is pretty good T
  10. Thank you for the link, had a look thru'. Does not appear that anyone is doing anything re. faster twists vs barrel lengths etc? T
  11. Lot of interesting things going on in the 22rf world outside the standard 25 & 50 yard target competitions. Be interesting to see how they turn out - do not think you could use them at Bisley though being ‘solids’? Also see that faster twist barrels are featured in a few posts elsewhere, 1:9 (or faster) as opposed to the normal 1:16’ish twists of most barrels? There is mention of only 60% of the 22rf’s BC being utilised by 1:16 barrels, interesting but i cannot find any real info on this - only the usual, mostly anecdotal, stuff? If anyone can point me at good info, even empirical, please do? Terry
  12. Believe Lothar do, Pacnor?, but polygonal rifling is not exactly ‘new’? Metford comes to mind as does Whitworth etc
  13. It is indeed a recurring question Bullets, brass etc are a controlled item and require an export permit, import this end is not an issue. None the less people do throw ‘the odd box ‘into their luggage (and will no doubt chip in with the ‘well I’ve always done this’ etc ad infinitum) but this is your choice as an adult, personally I would not recommend breaking the law, it is a serious fine if caught and if you need to travel to the States other than on vacation you could risk some difficulties on future visits. If you wish to confirm this yourself pm and I’ll give you the contacts in the US dept who manage this process. Brgds Terry
  14. NiD Most ‘target’ ammo is ‘sub’ just not HP i.e running along at 1050-1070 fps
  15. Nice start, just need to find the ‘sweat’ ammo for that particular rifle - sometimes it comes from the outfield! 😳 My MPR likes R50 & R100 which are my basic items., tried Eley, Tenex, Match & Club, the black cased stuff was crap, various flavours of SK (good but not great), CCI standard was OK but what surprised me was the HV CCI AR stuff - very good. I’ve just picked up some Lapua CenterX and Midas to try (hoping the Midas is crap due to cost 😉). The non-lubed Bi-Athlon Lapua sounds interesting? T
  16. NiD ’long range bugholes with subs’ is an oxymoron. 🤔😉 T
  17. The gen 2 PST is a nice match to the rifle’s capabilities and your described use, I got to play with a couple earlier last year for the 1st time and was impressed. The trigger’s are a bit on the light side, if you find the factory adjustment does not allow you to match your PRL rifle then JP products in the US do a set or alternatives that drop in to increase the pull. accurate 22rf’s are underrated IMHO. enjoy!!
  18. Mr Oeuf, I have a Frankfort Tumbler for wet/pin cleaning, seems to work OK and has given no trouble so far. As we now no longer have an AGA also invested in a food dryer off fleaBay to make life simple re drying lots of brass. Do not use it every time, still finish off with a Lyman corn type vibratory cleaner after wet tumbling as I feel the brass is ‘too clean’ re seating - but testing inside neck lubing at present so might be a process not required (but the brass is really shiny) T
  19. Brillo, It is a balance of things, your confidence and ‘keeness’ to do something yourself, but agree that it should not be undertaken with rose glasses on! From another perspective, if you have a good but basic 22RF, the cost of aSmith doing the bedding will be more than half the value of the rifle, so doing it yourself has nothing to loose, as pointed out, understand what you are trying to do and plan then you should not have any issues. T
  20. Chris Interesting link, it is very personal but that’s Speedy, Gnats Arse, KMW and the US Marine Corps who use MarineTex, don’t think I’ll venture far from that then 😉 (plus it’s cheap!) Colin, If you are a tool maker you have access to the right equipment and all the necessary skills to bed your rifle - go for it, pillars etc. Can come out your scraps bin! 😄 T
  21. RR, Only ever used one on a 22rf and they are pretty effective, but that’s for 22rf where you ‘need’ to tune the rifle to the ammo. As you are looking at the 224 Valkyrie then you are, I assume, able to tune the ammo to the rifle? If you feel you need to add weight for harmonics (or whatever) perhaps use a supressor? T
  22. OoToT Agree with CF trainer idea, which is the reasoning for dropping my Annie MPR into the same stock as my CF’s, bit of a ‘faff’, ended up using a barrel block, but got there in the end. And away from Op a bit: NiD Not all HV 22RF is poor, concur re. Stingers (spray’n’prey’ ) but R100 and surprisingly the CCI AR specific are pretty good. The bottom RH group is using the AR stuff in a bolt action, and interestingly the top LH is some of the new ‘plastic coated’ CCI clean, two rifles exhibited the same thing - take 2 shots to come on target after normal lubed ammo. Groups at 50 yards, not particularly careful shooting - down and dirty comparing ammo. if you wish to see some good groups have a look thru’ this thread (as much as I hate to link to US based stuff 😔) : https://forum.snipershide.com/threads/6x5-thread-v4-0-new-1-1-20.6253073/ Brgds T
  23. OoToT, Comletly agree, a good 22rf is not to be underrated, I’ve an MPR with probably the same trigger (they are rather good !) and the ability to put shot no shot with the ammo it likes does induce a grin. With a bit of W effort dropped mine into a CF stock. A good semi is also required for the other stuff i.e. not bench. As to a scope, it deserves a nice one. 200 yards is very do-able with a 22rf, after that the wind has far too much influence IMHO. Brgds T
  24. OoToT Regardless of all this scope discussion, that Sir, is a bloody nice rifle!! 😎 T
  25. Colin, Most folks have a bedding compound they prefer to work with, Devcon, Belzona, Accuglass & MarineTex comes to mind. They all ‘work’ but it is down to what each person has most confidence in/had best results with. You will not go wrong with any. Pillars are used quite often but not sure what Annie you have ? If in a wooden stock then might not be necessary if you are looking to just ensure a snug fit - they shoot pretty well with no bedding/pillars from the factory after all? Wrapping tape round the barrel near the front end of the stock to keep it in the centre of the inletting I’ve found helps? Play-doe or plasticine to fill any holes in the action. I use neutral shoe polish as a release agent and apply it twice to make sure I've not missed an area, I also like grey MarineTex as it comes in small pots (I’m not a Gunsmith so do not need lots), find it a nice consistency to work with (like clotted cream) and a Gunsmith who I’ve used before uses it for his rifle builds, but as per my first comment, no one compound is really ‘better’ than another, it is personal Terry
