    Case prep

Suppose I’m a bit anal on the case prep thing then? I do uniform primer pocket depths using a Century 21 adjustable uniformer but I tend to do this after first firing, I sort of feel firing will ‘settle out’ all the brass if anything is left from manufacturing. My regime is to : Anneal in AMP induction machine, apply home made lube, body size (pushing back the shoulder .001-2”), neck size, (sometimes deriving in separate process, inside and outside chamfer (‘VLD’ inside chamfer angle), wash off lube and dry in a food drier, vibratory cleaner/nut media, clean primer pockets and check flash holes for tumbler media, prime using adjustable Century 21 tool ‘just below flush, apply dry neck lube just before loading process. Do a lot of this in batches and have the ‘man cave’ set up to allow this to be sorted in snatched time. Do have a pin tumbler that I use now and then, but still vibratory clean as well - feel tumbling makes brass too clean (but might be mitigated by dry neck lube??) BPCR is a whole different ball game - that is real shooting, smokeless is a passing phase 😂
  2. You want to shoot with him on a range 😯😂 (yes I know BD, I walked you off the target by error! 🤭)
  3. Al, Please refrain from casting aspersions on people who you do not know, not polite and comes over as a bit rude IMHO It appears that if anyone says anything you do not agree or understand you go off on one - it becomes a bit boring after a while.(ref. AMP annealed/‘free’ downloads/how business works) Not dogma - just works. I was not disagreeing with anything you’ve been saying, it might be correct, who knows? But does the OP need to go into all that to get his rifle to function safely - no. So just accept, for once, that your opinion /method might not be the only one in the universe - possibly, yes?? T
  4. FFS 🙄 Back to the OP Just adjust your FL until shoulder’s pushed back a few thou on a fired case and go and shoot. If you want to play a bit get a set of die shims, you need nothing more to control things nicely. T
  5. Without a doubt how we would like it to remain, difference of opinions put over in a civil manner - as you would (I hope) amongst friends in the pub or over dinner👌😎
  6. .... to put it another way Broc, you are putting your curlers in too tight 😂😂
  7. Gents, apologies for going off OP but..... Only ever experienced this in the BPCR's I referred to, big slow moving bullets. Wind in the morning blowing L-R = an set of elevations for each distance. In the afternoon blowing R-L = change in elevation with all other factors, temp etc. pretty much the same. Don't think it's relevant for fast small 'wind cheater' bullets which are the context of this thread. T
  8. ‘Precessional drift’ 😳, you’ll be throwing in Magnus effect next 🤔😂😂 ( which I’d actually be interested in for BPCR’s)
  9. Cheetor, You are confusing 2 things, the 'good enough for deer stalking i.e rifleman's rule, with what BD was trying to explain, also the Op's statement that this is the way it should be done, where more accurately (pun intended) should have been 'used to be done'. You apply the corrections to your dope for the LOS distance not change the distance and use this 'dope'. I'm not going to respond any more to this - just go and look it up, have a read etc. there's a lot of folks much clever than me - not as if you are going shooting at present? (start with pages 47-52 applied ballistics for long-range shooting by Litz) TackB - it's easy to make hits when typing at a keyboard but in reality under pressure during the stage most plans turn to ratsh1t and it's the shooters that can react organically under pressure doing it for real that score well. Concur entirety 😎, hence the dislike for lots of props, too much shite to sort 'at speed' and if a stage allows time for this then IMHO the stage is wrong.
  10. Josh - spot on, get experience and confidence in your setup then the slight change in breeze on your face or moving position etc. means you put in 'by eye' small corrections based on your instincts (actually this is a skill set 😎). Should be no need to adjust, just hold off 'a bit' ( FFP here gives a slight edge IMHO). BD - I'll accept your 'fag packet' results - I used 800mm difference between prone and barricade which comes out to just over a mil, so 7 out of 10 for effort! 😄 Jack - hope you did not pay too much for that 'sniper school'? ( that's a leg pull BTW!)
  11. Seen ‘high altitude’ courses ie where both angles and physical elevation ( ie ‘thin air’) are encountered? .. high angle shooting? Thought that was shooting at an elevation greater than the maximum range of a weapon ie like a mortar? But looking at the example of shooting 30 deg downhill prone then standing behind say a 1m barricade and then shooting at the same target, quickly drawing that out it’s a change of .062deg in LOS or .0005 Difference in cosign value if my math is correct? but open to correction here, always ready to learn Think there are other things to worry about ongoing from prone to barricades? just saying?
  12. Pops I believe burglary does not have you present so gun or no gun makes no difference. More of a live and let live attitude compared to UK/Europe’s (ineffective) nanny state. Lived in the US for 5 years, felt safer there than here and witnessed better response from police in various situations. Did not think much of California the few times I’ve been there, but did not live in that state for any duration so hard to judge / make sound comment. Each State is very different. T
  13. Use a scope designed for it on a rifle also designed for 2 miles if trying to compete perhaps? 😉😁 just saying?
  14. Gandy ...37 mil, NB actual value that hit the 2 mile target (not a predicted/imaginary value 😉 )
  15. Gents There will be an article in Target shooter re. a recent trip to the French 2 mile range. A basic conclusion - the 33XC will probably do everything most folks want, shot very well out past 2500m. If you want to be competitive at 2 miles then something 'special' is required. The 375CT performed exceptionally well Your optic and ballistic solver also features in a competitive rig, TARAC or purpose designed such as Genesis, the AB (when you know how to set it up) worked. T

Gents, If you are looking for a ‘nice’ mold from form folks who normally respond try BACo: https://www.buffaloarms.com/bullet-moulds/buffalo-arms-bullet-moulds?cat=663 If they do not have what you are looking for (ignore the ‘out of stock BTW) then they can normally make what you want. Turned moulds so round bullets - which helps. Brgds T
  17. Edgar Bros as you say, middlemen that bring nothing to the table except a % mark up. 🤔😱😉
  18. Not sure about the SA R4, but my guess is it would have been cheaper to bin all the original SA80’s and by Canadian Diemaco’s of whatever ‘C’ flavour? But I’m in business not politics! 😂😂
  19. ColinBR Actually thinking about what I’d need doing any reasonable Smith as I’d sort the reamer. What I’d like to do is move the firing pin to 6 o’clock from the standard 12! Terry
  20. 1066 - it is the NSRA comp I'm looking at doing, bit more of a challenge 😎
  21. Greg, Concur it will not help the 30fps variance but it should help round off a group shot with 30fps variance ammo ? 1066, here's my Harrell tuner, you can add weights to the front: not sure how you went about initial setup? I tried the 'Purdy prescription' which seemed to get me into the ball park: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=544427 You can also use O rings along the barrel as harmonic dampeners, perhaps position by talcum and hammer method? 1066, see you are doing the postal BR comp? bit off OP but how are you sorting the new(ish) rules on front rests? I've come up with this contraction using a laboratory lift: Brgds Terry
  22. Greg, Is that a pre-fit Lilja? Their chamber designes as supposed to be one of the better designs - the 52D being the best (allegedly! ). Perhaps a tuner to ring the best out of your chosen ammo i.e. reduce the effect of velocity variations? I'm using an MPR but mounted using a barrel block into a CF stock. Watching the US re. barrel twists with the possibility of swapping the barrel at a later date, only issue is no one seems to work on 22rf's in the UK or the one person I did find was a bit 'stick in the mud' i.e. I asked about a cone face and he went blank (no pun!) Good luck with your quest. Brgds Terry
  23. Greg As much a I hate to quote US sights, if you want to see what some folks are achieving out to 200 yards have a look here and what rifles used: https://forum.snipershide.com/threads/6x5-thread-v4-0-new-1-1-20.6253073/ High end ammo I've found to be the most consistent (now there's a surprise 😉) but not good enough in some cases e.g. Centre-X vs Midas plus, to warrant the cost difference. All about finding what your rifle likes best. There is discussion about twist rates and barrel lengths related to long distance performance in 22rf's, fast twists (1:9 as opposed to the standard 1:16+/-) and the need for longer barrels (22" ish, all against the anecdotal 'no need for more than 16" etc.). with the growing interest in high quality 22rf's in the US (Voodoo, Ultimatum etc.) there is a lot of work and experimenting going on to get the best out of the 22rf's BC (all to do with rotational speed). Be worth keeping an eye on? Brgds Terry ps sorry for using OSOK in original reply - thought we were all sticking to the silly internet anonymity/tinfoil hat guff 😁
  24. OSOK, We run a 22rf LR comp, 50 standing, 100 sitting 200 prone and also a 100 yard 20 shots for score comp. do not think anyone uses subs as they are not the most of accurate choice in a 22rf. The recent 20 round 100 yard for score comp group was about 20mm outside dim. Any reason why subs, for expansion? Target rounds as ‘sub’. Terry
