  1. Hi Ewan, I sorted the geometries to get things like the trigger to be in the right place, line up existing bottom metal 'holes' for a FB action screws to meet the barrel clamp and then drew up the clamp on AutoCAD, had a machine shop make it (but could have gone the 3D printed in metal route) then installed/bedded myself using grey Marine-Tex, keeping everything inline with barrel channel, square to stock/FB bottom metal. If doing this over it is probably easier to just buy something like a Barrelled Ultimatum Deuce or Vudoo and drop straight into a FB stock - but they did not exist when I was doing this (and I already had the Annie MPR). Still, I like it and it shoots way better than me, won the local 100m shoot for score comp a few weeks ago so good enough! T
  2. ColinBR There are ejection issues on new 64's as well - but easily solved and well documented on InterWeb as how to. My Annie MPR exhibited said problems but now no issue - but a bit galling when you spend ££ on a good rifle and have to do a bit of work. Annie barrels are (normally) very nice and will shoot once you find the ammo they like, think you need to put a good few 1000's of rounds down them before they go south? Never owned a 22rf that I've 'shot out'. Good few older 54's around to pick from. I ended up using a barrel clamp to get my 65 into the same Sentinel stock as my FB rifles, shoots vey well with Centre-X; Now just need to sort a linkage between the FB mag release and the Annie's Put a Harrels tuner onto the rifle, also now balances similar to the 65.x47 FB with a suppressor on. Think 22rf's are very under rated, good fun and a challenge to shoot well? T
  3. ... reloading and casting on the schedule
  4. With all the %uckwits going to the coast/Snowdonia at the weekend and crowding together I’d be surprised if tonight’s 8:30 prayer meeting with Boris does not go for a shutdown! Similar thing happened in Norway - all the townies headed to their huts in the hills, think it’s now legislation that they go home, Norwegian army enforced it.
  5. Apologies Lehman, you are correct, my mistake, should have said ‘Palma’
  6. Catch, Yes it was a rule driven change, but there was a transition period where you could use either, majority chose to jump to 308 even though the 30-06 was still allowable i.e more capacity is not necessarily the best choice. I was just trying to be illustrative on the 55 vs the creed vs the 47 the latter being driven by accuracy considerations. Similar to say the 6BR vs a 243. Was just a discussion point, nothing finite T
  7. Good looking rifle Brock, LH? Re. the 6.5x55, always liked the cartridge and had a couple of rifles in the past for stalking, always got the job done, very consistent & considering its about a 120 year old design not too shabby, think P O Ackley said something along the lines of 'not worth Acklying as no great gains? But even using Skan data cannot see the advantage of the 55 over say a Creed (or 47 in real terms for that matter ). The general trend has been towards smaller capacity cases for better accuracy e.g. PPC, 6mmBR and when the switch to 308 for TR the folks who had the option to remaining with 30-06 during the change over opted for the 308 ( caveat: from memory on that last one) Plenty of nice rifles out there, things like the Tikka in its various forms, Sauer 100 Pantera all seem to shoot out of the boxe, which does question the custom route (but custom is nice ! ) Here is a 285 yard group from a stock Tikka Tac using factory ammo: Choice is your's really. T
  8. Gents, not questioning the right of the organisers to cancel, just interested in the ‘why’. Can see that anyone travelling via air or similar congested means would be better off not travelling. Not sure on the social responsibility bit John ? ‘Not’ spending money in an area already hit but folks happy owning an iPhone 🤔 😂 No target shooting sport is ‘ever’ actually necessary is it? Pops, completely agree ‘if’ the competitors were 70 year olds with a chest infection, but folks who are lugging very heavy rifles + 2 or 3 bean bags + tripods & backpacks up a hillside do not really fall into that bracket? Agree that clubs are all having to do the duty of care bit, we have just put round similar, those at risk have sensibly dipped out of coming to the range. Believe the Gov advise (for what any of it is worth) is actually to get out and have a walk in fresh air for both physical and mental health. Still we could bounce this around forever, it is what it is. Terry
  9. My bad, read it wrong My 'accurate' 22rf does not perform well from a cold bore in any condition, if i was shooting a comp target I would fire a couple of warmers. Perhaps these soft bullet, all be it coated, perform the same way, so if the 1st round is always crap might just have to live with it? T
  10. Interesting decision, I can see the issues with using accommodation, restaurants etc.as being close proximity but the risk on the hill side at Orion, struggling a bit with that one? IMHO can see that actually having fun is not high on the 'necessary' list but at what point do we stop doing everything? T
  11. M, Clean/cold bore shot can be different, for me it is one of the characteristics you need to know about your rifle(s). But to resolve your problems lets apply Ockham's razor, you could eliminate one thing by not cleaning your rifle between strings (that removes the 'clean bore') and the other by firing a couple of warming shots before you start (removing the cold bore from the equation) Then see what happens to your results? Brgds Terry
  12. Mark II it is an issue when folks use jargon 😎, you will have to learn all these if you are going to hang with the ‘HSLD’ crowd (High speed low drag) 😂😂 LPVO in a Warne Skel = a low powered zoom scope in a lightweight mount. Low power scopes typically run 1-4, 1-6 with some 1-8 & 1-10 variants, normally driven by if it is a first or second focal plane scope. In answer to your OP I’m using a 1-8 power first focal plane which has a nice illuminated reticle so it can be used as a red dot as the March’s 1x is a true 1x. 8x is quite enough scope out to 100 yards. Cheers terry
  13. Re. Square deal - a possibility as I’m only looking for 38 spl, all other cartridge reloaded are rifle and single stage press products. T
  14. Thinking about a 550 setup primarily for 38 special. Dillon are ‘the’ progressive presses, just wondering who’s had good dealings with a UK distributor. ’yes’ I can/have Google’d a few but it is the service I’m interested in - PM if you do not want to put a public comment. Cheers T
  15. All getting very interesting re. The 22rf with CF footprint market. The Ultimatum Deuce and DeFacto (Tikka footprint) are also available. Next question to me, as you are looking at a serious ££ build cost, is what barrel, its twist and who’s chamber design? You would wasn’t to get the best out of any build and 22rf barrels do not really wear out that fast i.e. once you’ve had it built you are stuck with it? Anyone had any thoughts on the latter points?? Terry
  16. Ronin, If I was going FB on a lever and had the beer tokens , it would have to be Turnbull 1886 thus: https://www.turnbullrestoration.com/gun/turnbull-model-1886/ or possibly a Win 1895 in 405, Teddy Roosevelt T
  17. Dave, That was my ‘gut’ feeling, its a $600 production line item so do not expect too much 😁? Will spend a bit of time looking at this and fitting, well on the next one, this one needs to go back for a different reason Posp This is a new production item, I avoided a Remlin. Yes older models were a lot better, I used a 44Mag for CAS in the US about 20 years ago and it was, from memory, a much nicer beast. T
  18. Just been working on a new Marlin 1894, focussing on the internals- not sure if my memories good, but this rifle does seem a bit rough inside compared to the same model of a (good) few years ago? But it’s a lot smoother now. The thing that I had not looked at on previous rifles was the setup and how the forend & magazines was all fitted together, it all looks a bit ‘stressed’. Now there are various articles on ‘bedding’ the forend of lever rifles, putting RTV between the mag tube and barrel under the forend, opening up the barrel bands etc. Anyone have any real world experience on this, must be something that can be done to balance out things? As it stands the more rounds in the magazine the greater the pressure on the underside of the barrel near the tip. Cheers T
  19. John, might very well be the case but the guy was showing me their new laser engraving machine and other similar apparatus when talking about the silliness of the proposed CIP requirements for ‘every’ component to be uniquely marked, not saying it was linked to this, just passing on - hence ‘caveat’ in my mail. All I know as a ‘fact’ is I’ve had firearms that fall after this cut off date transferred onto my FAC that are both custom and factory by RFD’s who I’m pretty sure are ‘not’ checking and recording that each components carries a serial number. Am I in breach of the law in owning these firearms as they do not comply, can I sell them etc.etc. All a bit hear say, opinion and nothing ‘in writing’ (so to speak). T
  20. ...... Dave, as always to the point and direct 😁 That was the ‘are you sure about this?’ in my original post, as if it is true I’ve had firearms transferred onto my FAC that have been manufactured in Europe and the UK which only have any form of identification number on the receiver. One of these I collected from proof, which begs a question, if it was ‘law’ why would the proof house releasing an ‘illegal’ firearm?? Caveat: I waited for this rifle to come out of proof last year and had a discussion generally while there. The proof master did say that CIP had proposed every component be ID’ed - but the way it was written every component, small screw, springs, etc was included so it was thrown back. Is this some legacy rumour etc? T
  21. Mr Boy Must have missed something but do not believe any of my rifles have the serial number on the barrel, the number’s on the action? Are you sure about this??? Terry
  22. OoToT, Are they easy, once set up, to use i.e. adjustments are direct. I'm assuming (not looked) that profiles on your iPad etc. can be transferred? Friend has one so I might have a play with that - now the IWA's cancelled ☹️ T
  23. Cheers I really need ‘instant’ access to multiple setups for a couple of reasons. I’ve seen the 701 but would have preferred a simpler (smaller) device but if multiple setups are not a feature in the Fenix then the 701 might be the only option? . Fortunately I’m at the IWA Next week with one of the guys from AB so will have a chat with him re the 701, see what that’s about in detail? Cheers Terry
  24. OoToT, question , and being a bit lazy here, can you pre-load several rifle data sets or is it one at a time? Cheers Terry
  25. Not sure on your budget but the March scopes will go down sub 10 yards on full magnification, they doe some high power big zoom models with real fine cross hairs or dots. T
