  1. Richard, Photo of my set up. Right hand guard removed, trickler sat on top with funnel through hole into long handled kitchen measuring cup. Works perfectly
  2. So are you selling the box that the press comes in or is there a press included as well?
  3. Norma used to make Weatherby brass, they never made their own. It's probably more consistent that Hornady but all the Norma brass I have had over the years was very soft, can't say what Hornady would be like but I would think the chances of having any sort of choice in availability would be very slim.
  4. You would probably need to decide on which manufacturer of the rings you are going to use and check the relevant heights of those rings as there is no 'standard' when it comes to ring height designation. Most manufacturers will have guidance on their websites as to the dimensions of the various heights they offer.
  5. Out of a 29" barrel, 39gn gave ave 2865fps, 40gn: 2941, 41gn: 3003, all with 107smk with 105scenar same charge weights: 2903, 2960, 3041 Those were shot on different days with an optical chronograph so are only really valid in the progression on each day rather than absolute values. I also tried 110SMK but couldn't get any acceptable accuracy either changing charge weights or seating depths so gave up on them. I'm just using the 107SMK at the moment out to 600 yards in club F class matches
  6. I've not used it in the 6XC but have with the 6 x 47 Lapua using 105 Scenar & Sierra 107MK and started with 39gn, went up to 41gn and settled on 40. The case is slightly smaller than the XC so you should be same with that.
  7. My opinion is anything you use to clean the cases can conceivably stay in there and get left in the barrel to be ironed in on the next shot. To me, re-barrelling is too expensive to risk damage from that sort of occurrence and there is evidence from at least one major barrel maker that that has happened. In that case it was ceramic balls from the Redding neck lube kit. Prior to reading about that I had stopped using the very same kit as I was just about to seat some bullets and noticed something hanging onto the inside of the case neck and it was one of the ceramic spheres. Needless to say it was straight in the bin after that. I just brush the necks now prior to priming and sizing.
  8. It also might be worth contacting the police and letting them know the surgery are playing hardball. My surgery wanted £100.00 to sign the proforma, I've only ever been once in ten years, at their invitation, for a check up. I used Medcert and the surgery sent the records to them just under thirty days so they were aware of the legalities.
  9. I could be wrong but didn't a copper get shot in 68 with a sawn off which prompted a change in the certification of shotguns? Other than that, it has to be Canada where they (Trudeau) have just announced prohibitions on handguns and semi autos based on the use of an illegal semi auto, not that you were referring to other countries of course.
  10. I didn't like the cheap flimsy lens covers that came with my Sightron 8-32 scope so took a punt on 62mm lens caps on Amazon and they screwed straight on, also fitted Nightforce 12-42 NSX so maybe it's a standard thread and fitment. Both of those scopes are listed with 56mm objectives so may work also with the IOR. There are 3" long x 62mm lens hoods/sunshades listed on Amazon for £20 at the moment
  11. When you say 'NRA face targets' I assume you mean the standard GB NRA TR target face, lets say 1000 yards which is listed in the plot sheets that JCambellSmith has attached. The squares represent one minute of angle, so approx ten inches x ten inches at 1000 yards. The circles obviously represent the scoring rings, so V bull in the centre going outwards. If you are sensible and have your sights calibrated in MOA, then you can navigate around the target, assuming you can hit the target, subject to wind effects. The two graphs allow you to record the mean wind and elevation throughout a series of shots, but you normally have to start with an assumed 'corrected' wind deflection and elevation setting (probably a bit too complicated to get into for what you need). The chart on the right is to record the elevation and wind correction for each shot fired in the series, the ones I use have both a column for the actual value you had on the sight when it was fired and then the correct value, assuming that is different (quite often!), plus a place to enter the score for each shot. There is also a wind chart in MOA which shows the wind deflection for various angles from the firing point and flag strengths, but may not be relevant to the ammunition you are using although the relative differences between parameters would be the same, ie going from half value to full value wind direction. Personally, I don't use the graphs, just write a number on the scoring rings that represents the position of each shot fired and the wind that was applied to the sight for each shot. If the wind is steady I don't even bother with recording the sight value, preferring to watch the flags and mirage than have my head buried in a plot sheet.
  12. So way not just use the starting loads in the manuals or websites and learn to read pressure signs, why even involve the proof house? Their chambers and barrels have no relevance to yours other than the stamp on the cartridge case. I've honestly never heard of anyone suggesting involving using the proof house to test your loads, most people have the confidence to read what the fired case is telling them or if not, involve a mentor or someone experienced in handloading. Surely if you wanted to involve the proof house you would supply them with the rifle to test the loads in? You can't post ammo so you would have to hand deliver it and then you may as well drop off the rifle so they can check your chamber/throat/barrel and give you a complete print out of the pressure? Maybe I'm incorrect and that people are driving up and down the country delivering ammunition to the proof house to test?
  13. But if it's not fired in your chamber through your barrel it's completely meaningless. I assume that was what you meant and not sending them the complete barrelled action for them to attempt to destroy/damage as they generally like to do, at your cost.
  14. There are a number of gunsmiths on here that have Shehane reamers, maybe one of them could simply do the necessary. I have no experience with Wilson case holders so wouldn't know for sure how hard the metal they use is and whether it would FU the reamer for subsequent rifle chambers. If it was sold as being suitable for a Shehane and isn't, simply return it.
  15. It isn't mandatory for either shooters or markers, at least on the ranges I shoot on, although I've noticed more and more shooters deciding to make use of eye protection.
  16. I don't see how a 6.5x284 or straight 284 could work as the Shehane is blown out at the shoulder so as you have found out it won't chamber. It would need the Shehane reamer running in or a dedicated Shehane holder sourcing
  17. I tighten 1/4 x 28 action screws to 7nm on aluminium or SS pillar bedded laminate/composite stocks I've read reference to 65 i/p for pillar bedded rifles online which if my conversion is correct is a bit more than 7nm
  18. I've just gone though this as well. The Police don't want to see your medical records, they are not competent to understand them. They want a medical practitioner to review you records and confirm that you are not suffering or being treated for anything that may cause you to be a danger to yourself or others. My local force has a proforma to download and pass to your GP to countersign with a dozen or so conditions which may give cause for concern and asks if you are suffering from any of them. It's up to the GP then to sign you off so to speak. I belong to a surgery with a dozen or so practicing GP's and they wanted a £100.00 to sign the form, I've been once in 10 years for a check up, at their invitation, so that rankled a bit. In the end I used Shooter cert which cost £60.00 and took a month for them to access my records and send me the proforma, or a version of it. It's been sent to the cops and they've acknowledged receipt with seemingly no issues with the medical form, just waiting to hear from the guy that does the inspections.
  19. If the wind is coming towards you it will help, it coming from behind, then pointless. Anything in between, it's better than nothing I suppose but a lot of moving air between you and the flag which you can't see or correct for. Once the bullet has been deflected it will continue on that course until another force acts upon it, so winds at the firing point have a much greater effect than those downrange, simply because there is more distance for the bullet to be deflected over.
  20. Go to the bottom of the forums page and there is a 'contact us' tab.
  21. I've never bothered with a tube mic, just set up the turner so it skims the brass, re-size, seat a bullet, measure with standard mic or dial caliper. If too thick, expand up and skim a bit more off. I think getting them all the same is more important than the actual neck clearance, as long you you have some clearance and it's not too excessive. Various rounds I shoot vary from .002 to .006 clearance and I don't think one is any better than the other. A tube mic would be quicker measuring of course with less faff and if you have limited bushing size options, assuming you're using bushing dies, it would make it easier to match loaded rounds to the bushings you have available.
  22. Sightron 8-32 as Furrybean suggested or any Nightforce with 32+ on the top end, they tend to hold value better than Sightron which may be useful if you the kind that likes to trade up. I wouldn't personally go below 32 power whatever you choose and also fixed powers may be an option if you are struggling to make weight for F/TR. I use the NSX 12- 42 but it hardly ever gets used below 42x, even in heavy mirage
  23. Diggle ranges, shot 900 yards F class last Saturday, also 800 and 900 yards earlier this year. Also may have shot 1000 yard Benchrest but it's not something I participate in.
