Ronin replied to rgt's topic in For Sale (Free Adverts for Private Secondhand Items only)
A bargain Robert regardless of the round count the action and stock / bedding Grant has done are worth the asking price Good luck with the sale -
44.5 g Varget or N140 under 155 g scenar works in many 308’s I know of and have shot it’s one of the “go to” loads for that cartridge
-
Similar to 3500 from the 6.5/284 and 95 g GS Custom LTS hold sub half Moa and are effective on Disney’s favourite quadruped

Very well written and balanced prose Disney has much to answer for “humanising” animals -
155 g scenar with 44.5 (work up to this) N140 was the go to load seated at 2.850” (oal) in all the 308 Rifles I’ve owned
-
Hi David Thabk you for coming back on this I also had a Tac 2 that had 308 mag (though started out as 338 but can’t recall what the internal mag length dimensions are (or were) the 308 mag we’re loaded to 2.850” I recall and I believe they had a small detachable plate at one end that allowed longer bullets to be placed - I guess all the mags 338 a 223 were the same external dimensions to fit the chassis / stock I would like to know the max internal length for curiosity
-
Could anyone advise the internal mag length of the above please 6.5/55, 300 wm, 338 LM mag if possible I understand the mag is externally all the same size - it’s the internal dimension (overall internal length) I would like to know Cheers

284Win - Powder Choice
Ronin replied to mole-e30's topic in Target Shooting & Informal Long Range Shooting Practice
N165 and 160 worked for me with my shehane just shy of 2900 and I believe that RS powders equivalent also are viable options Perhaps Others from the F class o community may add their perspectives -
Practice various shooting from various positions under “stress” Kneeling, sitting, standing leaning on wall, fence top, off inclined post for example. All will help you with your shooting regardless of entering competitions If you kill deer, then this would be excellent practical experience for the precision rifle type Comp as you are under similar stress if the animal is aware of your presence, one rarely has stable shooting position and shot placement is imperative for humane kill before anyone decrees I am advocating practicing on live quarry for a Comp I am not- I am saying the practical experience and skills gained from deer management run side by side in this type of competition Aids such as bags are useful, there are plenty of companies who make such things and some serious quality available from Canada and the US. There’s a uk company that make them too but despite attempts to contact them they haven’t responded to enquiries I have made. You May “need” a tripod, however using quad sticks works for me and one could spend the equivalent of the cost of a rifle on a quality lightweight sturdy tripod and suitable mount for the gun Above all I’d try and have fun and enjoy the comp, I’m sure this type of thing will continue to grow in the uk

How will this comply with security requirement for storage Id make the journey back to home and collect instead of doing what you suggest
-
Security travel cable and lock through the mag well and action then secured to the vehicle at the very least Remove bolt and ammunition Have those with you and secured That’s what I do when travelling to comps here and abroad if staying away from home You could go on to discuss the legalities and issues of having the weapon at work but I’ll keep it simple using the travel example

Would you post some images of the winning rifle, set up. Phenomenal results from a 550...

As others have said 47 creedmoor on short action Limited to 130 in the 47 but could go to 150 with the creedmoor and faster twist barrel (7) Long action, you can have 260(though many are made on short action it’s best served in long action ) 6.5/55 swede and 6.5/284 or even 6.5/06 with these you can run 130-150 grain at high velocity to optimise BC and gain every ounce of performance The trade off with the latter two is barrel life Ive run 47 and 284 variants for years (multiple barrels on both guns) and not had any issue with performance on tissue or paper with either

Macmillan stock adaptations
Ronin replied to 204's topic in Target Shooting & Informal Long Range Shooting Practice
You could make a 3" wide forened adaptor from Delrin, Alloy or Hardwood to fit on the outside of the stock held in place with some kind of fixing. If your stock has a flat base forend it would be relatively simple to do. -
The issue with the Beserk is the material it’s made from - it won’t stick to bedding compound You could probably insert pillars but they would be a slip fit and without bedding not really worthwhile doing The laminate GRS stocks are at their best bedded Im not sure you could do this with a Beserk model

Lose the rail and Spuhr put a pair of tally bases on it and 34mm Talley rings that should bring it down enough to fit perfectly and lose the weight of the rail and heavy Spuhr ,,,,,, Did this with a Borden build a few weeks ago saved nearly a pound without the lard
