  1. For Nine grand a Comp (overall income based on 50 entrants at circa 180 entry fee ) I’m sure the range owners can afford to buy a few ,,,,, 😂
  2. Well now there are several types of Precision Rifle Shooting competition in the UK let’s hope the sport grows to become bigger and better Diggle ranges are running their own competition series as are Gardner’s at Eskdalemuir and with next years Precision Rifle League promising to be “bigger and better” with more venues there’s a plethora of competitions to enter or attend just to practice On that note, I hope the costs to enter don't get prohibitive. Talking to a fellow entrant of the last of the PRL events they said that it was over nearly 300 quid to enter the Comp and practice Friday with ammunition cost at 150 and accommodation another 150 for two nights in local place that becomes a very expensive weekends shooting when compared to even F class who’s entry fee at Bisley for two days is only 150 and a practice half day being 20 (bearing in mind that’s including paying for two human markers per target) Diggle Comp entry fees stand at no more than 50 per Comp for non members (less for members) and the new set of comps at Eskdalemuir are 60 which appears good value to me No one shooting competitively can argue it’s a cheap sport but it becomes prohibitive when entry fees are so high for unknown reasons, after all the targetry is already on site..... Moving back to the original thread (sorry) I don’t see the argument against long action as the bolt retraction is exactly the same as a short action. Closing the bolt requires the longer throw (3/4” longer) Yep, mags are larger but again 3/4” longer, so not by a huge amount. I think the guys Precision Rifle Shooting in the US have advantage of different climate and perhaps drier conditions where fall of shot / splash can be seen with the 6mm bullets - you don’t see many 6mm used in Scandinavian events from reading several reports it’s predominantly 6.5/7mm that is used Given the changeable conditions in the UK I believe 6.5 / 7mm is the better option
  3. Nothing wrong with mag changes - practice makes you more fluid People get hung up on long action is slow - that’s another worry wort fallacy - milliseconds longer for bolt throw
  4. People miss targets because of poor wind reading skills (myself) and poor fitness (high pulse rate) / adrenalin due to self induced stress Having competed in various types of comps for nearly two decades (be that international “sniper comps” , F Class at international level or local BDS / deer events) - I find I only have myself to blame for missed 😂 I think once you appreciate that your the fallible variance the only way is “up”
  5. Barrel looks typical of something that’s done that many rounds and retains accuracy As I’ve said for years - nothing wrong with LW barrels providing you have the right tooling to cut them
  6. This year I shot with a PGWDTI Coyote action set in PSE E Tac stock in 6.5x47 with PM11 4-16 up top (built by me) Worked fine, but was out gunned by the Creedmoor and 140 grain users Next year I’ll compete with same rifle but chambered in something else using slightly heavier bullets travelling slightly faster (considering a 7mm SwedCred Gali Inproved) 😊 Have new Kahles glass for the revised gun which is lovely (left hand windage makes perfect sense for fast changes) Have some shooting aids coming from Ulfhednar (Norway)
  7. Excellent, look forwards to the results, and next years series of competitions, hopefully without the politics and teams in fighting etc that’s occurred this year, which spoiled it for quite a few competitors. ”let the arms race commence” 😂
  8. Nice to see such a massive turn out. Looking forwards to returning
  9. Here is a link to some images from the NRA social media page https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2927743910574797&type=3&__xts__[0]=68.ARDgBreqreKgWjytVN7dLRe1VNZucVpcJ-FvNEzHmrjXTk6PP5nic5tES-6oKx6hnDwOmoGrYjvOWG1YlFo2Nmn8rs0vgouzJj89ttJSpAqxf7D_AptoA8zJJYam4tOzpD1M4V1rrSBSxct1CbauIYRm1ybPzu0aY6HwV257N3NZEHJS-5cPS23fyyXU0gvajzBf8qgj13TigyZ3fySiDwOVcY2HXDu6X5MpX_fNohnn2q6GhD1JqFWomxXCHqpexzR8X9kjKq3D_kKjnlD4oiL-rHxveZLhQgXVlN6wI4Um9h7BhnxgKEcJ4TX88d9FdgIIqbf0ZuJrTKQIy0ykKqpjY5QAP7ThwlCehKwBf_NsMZuTnCxkFvDqXzcc0074TE2bXsQRqtwBwSP8ixu0-HczwfmwvNGzC1sw_GarBM4JtRsnUrnMIZv30Ei1u4HOBi_4rr7_3azcT5qJwFiC57CW8P7zpaDdcRGw1jy9Phk3cn0tQtfX5Di0G-zGcE4osCzG5udIpym_uUQhES9pHEek1-iLww2vUdUbT81HTw&__tn__=-UC-R
  10. Well done 😎 Will move this to Competition section
  11. Ronin

    .284 win build.

They are at the higher price bracket cut rifled on computer controlled rifling machines that make excellent quality and dependable accuracy If you buy a Bartlein you will likely get it shooting very well That being said there’s nothing wrong with Sassen and Lothar Walther button formed barrels Sassen also make excellent cut rifled barrels as do GB barrels if you are looking at UK source There are numerous other excellent brands - benchmark, Kreiger, Brux, Tru Flight, Pac Nor etc etc etc Ive yet to have any rifle I’ve made shoot less than expected accuracy with home loads with most of the barrels named above I wouldn’t be set on any particular brand unless your shooting at competition level Uou may be able to tell the difference then
  12. Ronin

    .284 win build.

Have to agree most Bartleins shoot very well Half Moa would be the least expected of 284 win with appropriate twist and 180 hybrids
  13. Ronin

    .284 win build.

I’ve just built a 284 win on a T3 action for a customer using a Brux 9T barrel supplied by Brian Fox who has a few in stock Mik reprofiled it
  14. We have Edi the Hausken in question isn’t available in mainland uk for unknown reasons and the Irish importer is unable to export across the sea (checked by customer ) Frustrating for end user
  15. Think the barrel is just under an inch diameter at the muzzle - not many over barrel (reflex) moderators will accommodate this and there was an added issue that Dave wanted Ti or similar light weight material which isn’t freely available either
  16. Many of us use Lathe Turned Solids (LTS) here Either for deer or target on field firing ranges. GS Custom being my preferred provider, others use Warner Flatlines, Barnes etc A 150 g LTS will be very long and will probablty require a gain twist barrel to avoid damage to the outer surface There is (was) a guy in the UK who makes LTS Bernie Montanna - not sure if he is still having them made, perhaps seek him out
  17. Left port because customer specified action that way Background of images - yes I could have chosen a better shade ,,,,,,I prefer the faux wolf fur I have Balance point is towards the front of the magazine - nigh on perfect Barrel is 22” (I recall) The stock is perfect for a lightweight build for a carry all day stalking rifle It would be a perfect base for Tikka T3 or Rem 700 or clone action for people who wanted lightweight, durable and portable rifle
  18. Just completed this which is Borden Mountaineer in 6.5 Creedmoor, mated to a Hardy 8 twist barrel Trigger tech trigger PSE composites E Lite stock (which was a special one off for the customer) and only usually available in T3 inlet Bottom metal is Tier One with American Rifle Company Mag and Freyer Devic sound mod Up top is Schmidt Bender 4-16 Polar mounted on Talley rings and bases Stock has added flush cups and attachment for Spartan bipod Also Devcon bedded action inlet area Package weighs just a shade over 7 lb The stock is perfect for stalking and carry all day use, Edi you need to offer this inlet as standard!
  19. Had good reports from people who have used “Diver dave” repellant Not used it myself
  20. Wow thats spendy, one would anticipate a custom action could be supplied with the build for that price (though of course you haven’t specified what your spec was for the quote )
  21. I can find out this information if it isn’t clear on the web page - im sure the manufacturer will provide it. I honestly don’t know if there are options available for different clone actions or if it is a generic 700 inlet and again I imagine the inlet for mag will be AICS As an aside, Impact Precision only offer mag cuts for AICS and are from their web information their actions are compatible with most Rem 700 stocks (so essentially a Rem 700) The SSG /STR inlet uses the excellent Sauer magazines
  22. You could easily spend 30 k plus on a bolt action “Mauser action” from an English or US named gunmaker. I think the point about a blueprinted Remington will have limited increased value pertinent - especially when having bought the action for 350 (ish) as a donor the owner then spends another 250-350 having it blueprinted (by someone who does it properly) For not much more one could buy a custom action and have this hold its value if you were to consider selling Ive built hundreds of rifles in the last twelve years on high end customs and “thrown away” donors Non have failed to shoot accurately but some are far more pleasant to shoot and use than others A loose rattly Remington appeals less than a slick custom made action every time
  23. Hallelujah someone else seen the light instead of following the flock to the “sacred” creedmoor 😃
