  1. Was very pleased that two of my rifle builds came in the top ten and a third build won first place junior in this Comp šŸ¤˜
  2. Donā€™t know what rifle your shooting but unless the weapon has a adjustable firing pin assembly (thatā€™s worked loose) itā€™s unlikely to be the gun. your load is slightly over on recommended safe max Thats could be the issue You may also have a carbon ring at the throat causing increased pressure Neck sizing is ā€œold newsā€ if always recommend full length Re size for consistency What are the loads like when f l resized ? Your pals rifle / load may not like yours regardless so I wouldnā€™t draw any conclusions from shooting your cartridges in his gun (chamber and tolerances likely to be different )
  3. Certainly a consideration for the future, were there many other competitors using the C2 barrel at either competition- how did they fare ?
  4. There are no bugs with Norma Magnum Just full length size the brass
  5. Have to say this Comp was thoroughly enjoyable and a real challenge with well made and well thought out obstacles to shoot stages from and also challenging due to the weather and topography if the land causing its own issues (not many range flags at Eskdalemuir but Iā€™ve only ever shot at one other place (Raton) where the flags show full value wind one way but effect was actually the opposite) The range RCOā€™s, marking staff and Mark and Helen all deserve to be thanked for putting on such and enjoyable event Looking forwards to the next one
  6. My apologies for auto correct spelling Mark Bit of light reading http://www.thewellguidedbullet.com/
  7. Yup the same thing John think itā€™s been ā€œadoptedā€ by Warner / Tubb from an research carried out Mr Boatright
  8. Weā€™re I inclined I would start with a Barnard P and go from there I was sat on a PChey action for a forum member for a couple of years who decided not to build in the end - shame I donā€™t still have it Anyway - Barnard P, Bartlein barrel or equivalent quality , chassis type stock Chambering - 338 of whatever variety you choose or 375 cal Thatā€™s the way I would go for ELR Would use high BC solids Warnerā€™s possibly or GS customs modified with a band to induce stability at the nose (as per Jim Boatwrights design)
  9. No doubt several ā€œusual suspectsā€ will be attending
  10. Not sure why the results havenā€™t been posted or updated though I recall there is a ā€œbest of two ā€œ competitions minimum requirement to be in the running for the series Perhaps that is the reason Whatever the weather, Iā€™m sure we will have fun. Really looking forwards to it.
  11. Were I to build an ELR rifle Iā€™d choose a solid action no need for magazines
  12. You will both be fine - Iā€™m going too ! at least a few others are going from the site hope it stays fine
  13. If you shot a 7mm or 30 cal magnum barrel life would be 900 to 1500 rounds tops (accurate life) The 338 is less overbore than the smaller magnums so should see more than that before the barrel is toast The simple fact is, barrels are expendable items and if you want to shoot something that is overbore (be that a 243 or a magnum ) then itā€™s a fact of life
  14. Stock - pillar bedded with extra swivels etc weighs 3.8lb Im sure if you use an PSE E tac or Hunter you would be at least 1 - 2 lb less Its surprising how much heavier the McMillan is when compared to one of your stocks and I believe yours are stiffer / stronger. Carbon inlet finishers have been laid on the ejection port and under the bolt stop release - just little extras to complete the build My painting skills couldnā€™t match the colours of the stock (I wouldnā€™t even attempt it) so Iā€™ve added the carbon layer as a touch of ā€œblingā€
  15. Weight saving for the barrel - the client had hoped to obtain a different make of stock but the orientation / spec wasnā€™t available in the time frame they wanted Had we been able to use the stock concerned the rifle would have been sub 6lbs Regardless of this the rifle in its finished form is easy to pick up with the pistol grip one handed and move to another target should the occasion arise which for the intended use it probably will - so meets the required spec Low weight, accuracy, portability and pointable
  16. There has been mixed reports of the performance of the Christian Arms tactical rifle reading on other forums Cant say Iā€™ve noticed issues with Hardy or Proof research barrels though have only shot a couple under sustained range use I plan to try one in a fast twist 6mm in another rifle soon
  17. Was requested to build a lightweight carry all day rifle using the following components: Borden Mountaineer action. PVD coated bolt, action and recoil lug in right bolt, left eject configuration. Barrel is Hardy 8 twist Carbon wrapped finished at 20" chambered in 6.5mm Creedmoor Bottom metal Tier One with mag release within trigger guard Stock - Mcmillan HTG ajustable, which has added flush cups and fitting for Spartan Carbon fibre bipod Trigger is Triggertech unit set at 2.5lbs Stock is fully pillar bedded with Devcon Action finished off with Talley Bases and Ringset, which I believe will have a S&B Polar scope when it is delivered to its owner. Build weighs 8 lbs Images of the finished article:
  18. You could always look at either with this bolt face or choose 33xc or 37xc
  19. Iā€™ve always used a very light smear of Devcon to bond rails to actions (where necessary)
  20. Can vouch for this rifles accuracy as have shot alongside it at Warcop several times
  21. Some great pictures there Rob Looks like most people were using factory tac or customised rifles Anything interesting or unusual being used ? Believe the Comp was won with a factory sporter - Blaser R8
