If you really need x8 mag without pixellation then the Senopex A7 is the only one worth considering I have one on trial and tonight, alongside my HIK TQ50 (which I think is a great "bang for your buck" thermal scope) and my old ZK1 75-6 (17 microm 640x480 sensor and 75mm lens) the Senopex was the hands down winner. Bunnies at 300 yards looked the size of foxes with plenty target detail The Senopex has digital mag up to x8, but frankly it's not going to be needed for most shots. Note that the Senopex does not have wifi or on board recording and recordings made using it's analog video output are pretty dire. However it does run on 2 x18650 batteries which gives it about 10 hours run time Cheers Bruce
  2. The problem is the camera that was used in the Drone Pro. It used a Sony CCD sensor (ICX673) that Sony stopped making in March 2017 Stocks of that sensor lasted for a few years after production ceased, but there are now none of those sensors available new. Cheers Bruce

The root cause of the problem is that no-one has built an NV scope with an objective lens close to the focal length of the lenses used on the x10 drone (108mm) and x15 Drone (160mm) The biggest lens commonly available is the 70mm lens in the Yukon N470 (x6 magnification) or the slightly longer focal length, but much smaller aperture lens in the PARD NV008 (x6.5 base magnification) It's the combination of a large focal length lens and a sensor with big, and therefore sensitive, pixels that keeps the Drone pro at the top of the pile Frankly, I don't see anyone making an NV scope with a 100mm plus objective lens any time soon Cheers Bruce

  7. I've used the T Ceptor Pro and the HIK TQ50 and now own a TQ50. Tje T Ceptor Pro probably just has the edge in image quality (but the sparkle reticle is much better done on the HIK), but the difference in price between it and the HIK TQ50 makes the HIK a much better value proposition.   8. Possession of the materials - cases, primers, powder, bullets, dies etc for cartridges not on your FAC is not illegal. If you have friends who have rifles chambered in cartridges not on your FAC, but you have the materials and equipment to make those cartridges, then you can invite your friends over and supervise them making the cartridges using your materials and equipment. You cannot make cartridges for them - they have to do the assembly Having said all that, enforcement might be an issue for the Police because, unless they walked in on you manufacturing ammunition not on your FAC, it would be difficult to prove who actually assembled the ammo.   9. I used a white marker to put a line on the add-on and the scope objective bell so that I fitted the add-on in exactly the same alignment every time. I also held the rifle vertically when fitting the add-on and tightening the clamp so that any sag was the same every time Cheers Bruce

Most people agree that the AMP annealer is the gold standard in inductive annealers and there's no doubt they have done a ton of research and work to produce a machine that does a good job of annealing cartridge brass. The one part of their process I don't understand is that when you have brass that you don't have an annealing code for, you put it in the AMP and it destroys a case then gives a code for that specific brass. I'd like to know what parameter(s) the machine measures to decide the exact annealing code I'm presuming the code is some combination of power and time that gets the brass hot enough for long enough to get the hardness down to the same (or close to the same) as new brass Cheers Bruce

The document published yesterday is only an interim document. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms-law-guidance-to-the-police-2012 A fully revised Guidance (including the Statutory Guidance to Chief Officers of Police) is due to be published before the end of the year. In that case why did they bother publishing the document that went live yesterday? Also, yesterdays document is mainly a cut and paste job from the 2016 Guidance and still includes multiple mentions of expanding ammunition and bullets as being S5 with no reference to the 2017 amendment that brought them back into S1 (except for some pistol specific cartridges) Cheers Bruce

  17. AFAIK, it's the pins that actually do the cleaning. There might be some cleaning action on the outside of the cases with the brass rubbing against each other but that won't clean the primer pockets or the inside surface of the case. Deburring and chamfering after wet tumbling solves any peening issues. Cheers Bruce

  20. 4k day/night scopes are at their best in daylight because there is plenty of light and all the pixels in the sensor are able to produce a good signal At night they are no better than full HD scopes because the sensor pixels are so small and insensitive that they have to "bundle" groups of pixels together to act like a single larger pixel. It means that in NV mode, the effective number of pixels being used is no better than with full HD sensor such as found in the PARD or the Wraith HD (or upcoming Pulsar Digex C50) Cheers Bruce

You may have noted in the video that I gave 12 cases to a local materials testing laboratory to test using their Struers Vickers Hardness testing machine Prior to the test being performed there was some discussion between myself, the lab technician who would be performing the tests and the lab manager, regarding surface preparation so, the surface where the tests were to be performed was viewed at various magnifications. A Vickers micro hardness test using a 0.5 Kg load (same as used by AMP and the labs they have used for external testing) was performed and the indentation viewed to determine if the diagonals could be accurately measured. It was agreed by the lab technician and his boss that the indentation was clearly visible and had sharp enough edges to give accurate hardness readings The actual size of the indentation diagonals were in the region of 70-100 microns and the expected depth of the indentations were 10-14 microns. The point is that the hardness measurement made by my "crude" tool on new cases is in very good agreement with the measurement made on new cases by the laboratory and made at the same location and in the same surface condition. As I also showed in the video, the Webster hardness tester is specifically designed for use on soft materials and is supplied with 2 pieces of thin aluminium strip of differing hardness which are use to check the accuracy of the instrument. I have over 40 years experience in oilfield engineering and have performed thousands of hardness tests using many different hardness testers and many different hardness scales and am well aware of the requirements for surface preparation for different hardness test equipment and methods and also the errors inherent in trying to convert hardness values from one scale to another If I felt that the Webster hardness tester did not allow me to clearly detect the difference between new (or newly annealed) brass and fired/resized brass, I would not have built the annealer. It might be interesting if you sent me some of your "annealed" brass and some fired, but not yet "annealed" brass so I can tell you how hard they are Cheers Bruce
