  1. Triffid +1...........I don't have a bubble, and the argument that one shouldn't take any risks because they may have to rely on someone else if things go tits-up is frankly, risible............ Are you really suggesting that people shouldn't climb, dive, fly, bunjee jump, paraglide, ride horses, or even ride a bicycle, in case the unexpected happens and someone else has to take responsibility?? Get real....... Pete
  2. If I worried about all the unexpected things that could happen to me whenever I left the house, I'd never get out of bed...............it's all about doing your own "risk assessment" and taking sole responsibility when you get it wrong. Pete
  3. The next question: Is it legal to drive to Bisley (tier 4) from any of the other tiers..............the word "should" is used in the guidelines, rather than "must". I really can't see any increased risk to myself or anyone else if I drive from a tier 2 to Bisley, shoot alone for a couple of hours, then drive back. Pete
  4. There's an update: https://nra.org.uk/covid-19-update/ Pete
  5. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home#sports-and-physical-activity To echo what Martin B said........ Sports and physical activity Indoor gyms and sports facilities will close. Outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery/driving/shooting ranges, riding centres and playgrounds can remain open for individual exercise, and for people to use with others within your household, support bubble, or with one person from another household. Organised outdoor sport for under 18s and disabled people will be allowed. It does say "shooting ranges and individual exercise", so I'd say Bisley would be within the rules. Pete
  6. Some of the other articles are also interesting...............the piece on Branson is worth a read. Pete
  7. Funny how the media in general haven't picked up on this story about such a high profile "celeb".................or have I missed it? Pete
  8. Get them here: https://www.hunting-sport.com/Lapua-264-136gr-Scenar-L-1000-St_2 Their prices were the best I could find, and as you're in the EU, you can still take advantage of this. Pete
  9. Thanks for that, Robin, I stand corrected........I didn't realise the Kongsbergs used a similar technology to the Intarsos. That would explain our ability to get good groups at 600yds by aiming at the bull and applying a couple of MOA windage or elevation to bring the POI off-centre, ie on a fresh bit of unperforated rubber. Pete
  10. I use an old Mettler laboratory balance for weighing powder, which weighs in grams to 3 decimal places. (0.001grams or 0.015 grains). I was an analytical chemist, back in the day............... The 136 Scenar "L"s are very consistent in weight and length. Pete
  11. As far as I can ascertain, the Intarso system relies on the bullet passing through two rubber membranes. The vibrations are picked up by three sensors along the base of each frame, and this enables the software to plot the position of the hit by triangulation. The Shotmarker and Kongsberg systems detect sonic "boom" as the bullet passes through what is effectively an open cube with a sensor at each corner. The only downside is that the round must be supersonic as it passes through the target face. If you happen to get to use the Intarso's immediately after the membranes (which are consumables) have been replaced, you will get very accurate feedback. However, if the centre has been shot out over a busy weekend......... With the other types, there doesn't appear to be any maintenance other than replacing the target face, or a sensor if one gets shot. Pete
  12. We've had similar experiences using the Intarso electronics at 900 and 600 yds, but we've always recorded much better results using the Shotmarker & Kongsberg systems at 300yds. Obviously the shorter distance helps, but when you've had 3 or 4 V's at 600 yds, and then the rest of the ten are spread all over the place, you can't help thinking is it me or is something wrong with the target system. What we did find with the Intarso system was that we got much better groups by aiming off centre. Pete
  13. I have a very good load for my 6.5x47 using 136 grain Scenar "L"'s : 2.63 grms RS60, KVB-223M primer, Lapua case, COL 70.0mm. The 123 grain Scenar also gives very good results using 2.5 grms of RS50 powder. Barrel is 760mm length, 1:8 twist. Usual caveats apply....... Pete
  14. Here you go..... https://www.earshotcommunications.co.uk/shop/product/3m-peltor-level-dependent-earplug-lep-200-eu-orange/ Pete
  15. One of these......a no-brainer for rapid priming. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lee-Precision-Auto-Bench-Prime/dp/B000KKCZ80 Pete
  16. Me too, and I'm thinking WTF when I read this: As the number of component parts used in the illegal manufacture of ammunition is estimated to be negligible compared to the number of legally held components, it has been assumed that the restrictions will not impact the size of the legal market. Well it may well affect the legal market if I can no longer buy bullets in bulk................What planet are these people from, and how much have they paid to "consultants" to come up with this? Pete
  17. This the salient point, "These" referring to bullets & cases............ " The proposed change would be to make it an offence to possess these without a licence if it can be shown there is intent to use them to make ammunition. " What isn't clear is "licence".......do they mean an existing FAC, a condition added to an FAC, or a new thing altogether? Understanding why anyone would want to possess them for any reason other than making ammunition is above my pay scale, but then, what do I know? Pete
  18. The EU dealer where I get bullets and cases has always required a scan of my UK FAC to be attached to the order, showing the front page and the entitlement page, and will only ship to the address shown on it. I don't see a problem if that's implemented here. Pete
  19. This was prone off a home made bipod on a flat-calm day............. Pete
  20. The Lothar barrel on my 6BR has been round the galaxy.............it was well used when I got it 7 years ago, and I've put a couple of thousand through it since. According to the Shotmarker system, it managed a .49 MOA 5 shot group at 300yds at Bisley in July. Pete
  21. I'm getting 2950fps with a 30" barrel, 31.5 grains of RS52, and Scenar 105 grainers, uncoated. Pete
  22. Actually, I have used a professionally installed pair of moulded anatomicals for a few years, and they were OK...........but once I tried the Peltors, I had to have them. The seal is good, the electronics are excellent, and above all, they're comfortable. The only downside is the cost........... Pete
  23. Blimey, a bargain.......I paid £500 for a Bartlein blank 7 years ago...........+ £250 to chamber and fit. Pete
