tackb
which would you all go for in a grab bag , either the Wilkinson sword survival knife or the tom brown tracker ? I'm leaning towards the tom brown because I can put survival kit in the bag so it doesn't need to be on the knife? (yes I'm bored.....) IanM
Two of these: http://www.springfields.co.uk/mora-companion-ff-stainless-steel-knife-full-orange.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CKSVqOH-j8oCFYIfwwodXWkJwg Best knife available. One to use. one to lose.

maximus otter
which would you all go for in a grab bag? Neither. Both are far too specialised, and more than most people might ever require in the UK. You will get far more utility, far better service and far more value for money by carrying a Swiss Army Knife of suitable spec, plus a well-made simple survival-type knife. I'd recommend the Fällkniven F1: http://www.fallkniven.com/en/shop/details/370/24/fixed-blades/survival-knives/f1l maximus otter
bowji john
My preference would be for the mora also - cheap, functional with a high carbon steel blade - it keeps a keen edge and is easy to sharpen in the field Folding knives as a rule are avoided as bushcraft / survival tools as they don't stand up to the riggers of processing wood for fires (battening and splitting and the like). Orange handle is often found in survival packs for the obvious reason that they are easier to spot than the 'you can't see me' colours when you drop them or put them down somewhere
VarmLR
Personally, my go-to knife for most out-door work is an orange handled Mora Heavy Duty Companion. Thick enough blade for battening, yet still slender enough for most skinning and gralloching. Having said that, bought myself this last week....sharp as a razor blade but won't get used for battening!
Kalahari
Couple of Mora with orange handles. David.
Davy
Hultafors HVK with enhanced grip for me, in fact at well under a tenner each I would have two! Superb steel and they take a good edge, If in doubt of them Google them being tested to destruction.

I've got the Esse 6 and the little neck knife they do - the Azula The Esse 5 looks like a great tool - bit chunky - but very similar in dimensions to the standard survival knife the MOD issues The other advantage to Esse knives is that they apparently carry an unconditional life time warrenty
1sakonut
Fallkniven PHK bit expensive but worth every penny.

The knife blade locks but tbh I use the pliers a lot more. I snapped the tip off the blade once, took it back for a service and they sent it to Victorinox for repair and a service for £15. Private Marker
Sadler my mistake. I have been reminded the £15 was for a new case, not the repair.

terryh
Just picked up a OKC Rat-3 to go in my day sack, simple and just right size. I like the ESEE knifes for same reason. Never been impressed with Swiss army knives, seem a bit gimmicky- their car rescue knife being the exception. Quality multi tool is a ‘must have’ even on the range IMHO My challenge now with knives in general is learning how to sharpen them? 🙁 T

Does this have anything to do with zombies? It could be zombies, plagues of locusts, nuclear holocaust, the Greens winning the election - anything that might require a prepared daysack or bergen that is always good to go. It would be the one thing you would want/need to grab in a sheet hits the fan scenario, which would allow you sufficient supplies and equipment to make a fist of immediate survival.
