Factory Ammo v Handloads
martin_b replied to martin_b's topic in Target Shooting & Informal Long Range Shooting Practice
Now funny you should say that.. I didnt, but I did put the scope elevation values back into Srelok and got it to calculate the speeds S&B 2653 f/s Home made 2634f/s. So mine are slower but needed 9.5mils of evevation where as the S&B needed 11mils (plus or minus a bit!) The big difference is I'm using Nosler RDF which have a much better G7 drag coefficient. Not a very scientific experiment but interesting.. PS: Quickload gives a predicted velocity of 2725, Gordons, 2660. ( thats with a lot of default values but I plan to refine the data of the long weekend) -
Just saw this in SD.. https://www.guns.com/news/2012/06/27/149mm-sop-elr-cartridge-prototype-rifle I wonder if Bisley will allow it?

yes please! -
Ive joined Gardners this year for the first time, and by my reckoning to get there by 7:30AM I'll need to leave at Midnight! So a list of good Local B&B's would be wellcome. PS: If you think thats stupid, I also fish the Rivers Ness and Nairn in the Autumn for Salmon, so the Borders are almost local.

Frotunately the most of any one calibre i've shot in a session is less than 50 so my allowance is large enough to keep 50 odd primed
-
Ditto: I also find i make less mistakes if i load in stages.

Thanks Guys. Anyone got any Barrel balnks for sale? 🙂
-
I’ve got a Tikka M55 .223 super sporter that still has its original barrel (1:12 twist rate ?) Anyway as the barrel is at least 40 years old its due for a change. I want to be able to shot with it to at least 600 yards ( at the moment it wont register on electronics at Bisley) so my question is what barrel length and twist rate should I be looking at? PS: f any of the Gunmakers on here have an apprenetice that needs a rifle to practice on, i'm happy to oblige! 🙂

To update my own post.. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/golf/golf-tier-4-london-courses-open-b1776595.html Both courses and driving ranges will be allowed to remain open in Tier 4 areas in England, with the government confirming that “outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery/driving/shooting ranges, riding centres and playgrounds” will not be closed. -
Bisley closed again.

Now Im confused! The NRA statment about the closure has disapeared, and my local golf course ( tier4) was packed this morning when i walked the dog. Interesting update on golf which I guess could apply to shooting? https://www.englandgolf.org/covid-19-update-golf-courses-remain-open-in-tier-4-locations/ -

TBH, I took a cheeky couple of hours off yesterday morning and had 150 clays on the pay and play. -
I shot 900y electronic at Bisley yesterday.. the last time I shot 900 I had a string of 9 consecutive V Bulls, then last week I was at 300y 10V bulls in a row.. I have the photos 🙂. This week, same rifle, same ammo, one lane away, same Dope. First shot not even in the black. check everything tight all Ok, Sterlok readings OK. Dial in a correction well at least i doubled by score to a 2. try again. At the end of about 20mins I had produced almost an exact facimille of a shot gun pattern plate. 2 take aways.. Ain't wind a bitch, and Im nowhere near as good as i hoped I was!
