  1. Have fun playing with bullets , had a nosler loading manual but gave it away to a mate think it covered the rdfs .just waiting for my order of new jugs to come through the post from CDSG . 500 in a box should keep me going when the virus clears up .Also got a Dandy products trickler that’s working great so should have some very well measured out powder . Stay safe cheers
  2. After reading the Brian litz books gyroscopic stability seems to be a big factor at transonic speeds so a high sg Above 1.5 means very stable . high bc doesn’t always go with stability so you need to choose a bullet that fits your barrel twist and speed . For a 1/12 “ twist lapua 155s don’t do too good but older shaped bullets such as 175/155 MatchKings do very well . So it’s a balance of bc and stability and speed along with suitable twist rate . The lapua s work great with one in ten or eleven twist so not so good in my accuracy international 308 but good in a mates Sako trg . Hybrids or secant shaped bullets look like they are happier with faster twists and the tangent type like a slower twist . Have look at the books Ballistic performance of rifle bullets you’ll be amazed at how bad and good some bullets are and be able to pick bullets that might fit your rifle without too much heartache . Cheers Rich
  3. Hi all finally got some Berger 175 OTM bullets , they are about 80 thou shorter than the juggernaut s so the COAL of the round will be closer to 2.82 . Closer in shape to sierra MatchKings with a long boat tail so very transonic stable . Will report back when the ranges reopen. Stay safe . Cheers Rich
  4. Might be like myself . Stockpile up when there’s some available and only use them for best/ comps . Cheaper lapua for practice and upto 300 m then get the 175/185,s for the longer range days . They are very very good though .
  5. Hi there only bullets I know of the ones I’ve tried that are good for hunting are the hornady Amax 155 grain , which work well with 42.5 to 43 grains of N135 at 2.8” case overall length . Cheers
  6. Have a look at YouTube russ Douglass 222 , them lasers burning plastic are a bit scary . LEDs much safer but some animals notice the red glow after a while then they’ll run . Foxes and rabbits can see ir so be careful using it too much on full power/ tight beam . A flood beam doesn’t spook them as much . Cheers
  7. Hi there don’t know of the lights your looking at but I have always stuck with Nightmaster torches . Got IR ones for night vision on the drone pro , good out to 200m for foxes etc also got a white one for finding quarry and a red for scanning for eye shine . Over 7 years old now but still looking like new . Cheers Rich
  8. Cheers for info I’ll check sizes of tube at work an see how it fits onto the 308 neck . Seen some by 21st century that look quite good . Was also thinking of loading a tray up of cases then putting it on top of the tumbler for a few minutes . Thanks Rich
  9. Hi Panda thanks for the info , 5 shot group there and we were getting blown about in the fox holes a lot . No pressure signs and primers ok - federal 210 normals and fiocchi , I’ll look into a longer drop tube any recommendations?? . Tried a load at 45 and 46 grains but those were very crunchy so only made a couple and the bullet pushed out a bit over time . Cheers
  10. Hi there I had a closed license so rang North Yorkshire Feo to check some new land and was asked which force I came under ie Cleveland . Was told to get in touch with my local force to get them to contact him then send info back to me . Bit of a faff on !! But whilst on the phone he said I’ll just check on the computer the farm names and owners only one was cleared for any firearms . His advice was ring up your local force and put a variation form in with a note saying you’d like the open clause adding and also permission forms and a map of the land and boundaries . No cost for this 3 days later I’ve got a new cert with open condition . Very good lads at Northallerton and Cleveland . The risk is all mine now . cheers
  11. Hi all A very windy day at Whitfell 6K wind coming from left and behind at 7 o’clock ish but the 185 juggernaut s performed great . 44.5 grains. N150 , coal 2.9” , cbto 2.236 “ . Ever so slightly compressed load ie sometimes a little crunch when at the top of the stroke on the press but if the case was tapped a few times to settle the powder all was good with no crunch . Will chrono them next time . Thanks to all the replies especially Panda . We now have another favourite load five shots in the photo could have done much better if we weren’t getting blown about so much . Cheers
  12. Eskdalemuir gongs every 100 yards to 1000 then another at 1014 all ok with the 308 . Big one a t a mile , and more for the elr gang . Basic facilities so bring your own choc biscuits and sarnies . Weather has been great last 3 times . Photo was end of November cold but no wind . Try to go with an existing member as a guest or book it for yourselves with a few mates . 2.5 hour drive for us from Teesside but wort it . Cheers Rich
  13. Thanks for all the info . Cheers Panda I’ll report back next time out at the range how the 185’s perform . Happy new year to all
  14. Cheers Panda now that’s more like the speed I’m looking for . 44 g of N150 was to be my next load to try so I’ll load up 44 and 44.5 and try them out . In my accuracy international AT with 26” barrel 2.234 cbto seems to work well giving 2.9” coal so ok for magazine loading . This also gives approx 260 thou of bullet shank in the case neck so just enough to make the edge of the boat tail line up at the end of the neck area , bottom of the bullet is approx at the top of the wide part of the case where it joins the angled part . Hope that makes sense . Many thanks for the info . best regards. Rich
  15. Hi there best wishes for the new year guys and gals thanks for the replies , got about 500 of Berger 175 LRBT and 185 jugs trying to get them to 2600 FPS currently using 44g of N150 . The 175 OTM s apparently have a longer boat tail for better transonic ness , hard to get hold of tho . Will report back findings as the 175s work well and the 185s need more speed yet . Only got up to 2400 with past loads . Cheers
  16. Hi all happy with StrelokPro but it is very sensitive to input info , everything has to be good info . Barometric pressure and bullet speed make huge difference at a 1000 yards enough to be a full mil out for a 40 millibar error or the same if you’ve got your bullet speed wrong by 100 FPS . Tested at eskdalemuir and ok to 800 yds for repeat visits using 175 Berger s in 308 . Did a quick check at 300 yds and had nice small groups so was confident for our local club Christmas shoot at 300 y . Was surprised to be so far out on the f- class target had to come down 0.3 mil to be in the centre . Similar temps baro press etc . Didn’t clean barrel from last session tho . Other friends using StrelokPro with 6.5 Creedmoor and 308 have similar results . Everything helps but it won’t do first shot hits at over 800 yards for my equipment . Think I’m expecting too much from the 308 . Cheers
  17. Hi all I used to use a night master red torch mounted on top of the scope for rabbit shooting until they got lamp shy so then moved onto a nitesite NS50 that worked well till they got wary of the infra red , then had to change to the 17 hmr . As said before if you can shoot one then hide / turn off the torch you won’t spook too many and can wait while they settle down again .expect to start spending money on new toys as it gets addictive . Happy hunting
  18. Pulsar xq 38 just been out tonight and foxy can tell I’m there if the glow from the eyepiece isn’t covered up he can also see the IR illuminator on the drone pro too . The pulsar only gives either white hot , black hot or a rainbow set of colours based on amount of heat and animals show up as blobs of heat at longer distances . Animals only look animal shaped close up ie less than 100 m . Cheers
  19. Hi all bunnies and foxes easily see a glow from the lcd screen when I’ve spotted them and let the thermal hang from my neck while I’m getting on target with the NV . An old spare butler creek cap for the eyepiece shuts off any light as I don’t like turning the thermal off as it seems to last longer on the batteries if left running and is ready to spot again if needed when you forget where the target was . Cheers
  20. Cheers have fun getting a good load and results . Mate of mine got out to the mile with same bullet at eskdalemuir and easy hits at 1400 yards .
  21. Hi there have just been reading the set of books by Bryan litz and very informative they are too . Stability factor might be a better measure of how good a bullet is at transonic distances than bc . Numbers from his book are for 140 eldm g7 bc 0.322 ,+\_ 0.015 . G1 0.628 +\_ 0.108 . This is for average speeds 3000 to 1500 FPS . hope this helps Cheers
  22. Hi all Anyone got any experience using the Berger 175 OTM Bullets . Having read some of the Bryan Litz books the OTM version has better transonic stability than the long range boat tail and will suit a 1 in 12 twist barrel better . Looking for the best results at 1000+ yards from the 308 . cheers Rich
  23. Hi all was also looking at the fortis clothing , what colours / camp pattern people using . Swedeish or multi terrain pattern look interesting . Cheers
  24. Hi there go to load for 155’s in 26” barrel acc int AT 308 using N140 is round the 46 grain mark . 42.5 grains N135 for Berger 155.5 s 44 grains N150 for 175’s all at 2.9 coal and found base to ogive length of 2.234 or 2.237 seems to be the magic length for all bullets in my barrel . I have previously put some of my loads in the hand loading section along with bullet speeds so have a look there for further info . Cheers Rich
