Catterick ranges opening soon - happy times . Excellent work on the big bullet test RWS do seem to be the best these days cheers
  2. Hi there icotec I bought at the shooting show 5 years old never had much success in my area . Mouth calls from best fox call all work much better apart from vixen in heat .
  3. Rcbs or Forster pullers work well and can use the bullet again
  4. Thanks very much. Always go lapua route . gonna cost a bit more but small groups are worth it. cheers
  5. Thanks very much for the load info . Got some N135 so was going to try that once I’ve got some loading gear . Full length resize or neck only ????. With 308 I’m only doing bushing bump and neck with forster dies . cheers
  6. Tikka varmint 20” barrel in stainless on its way from gmk and wildcat mod to suit . happy days thanks for your replies

  8. Next line of thought regarding tikka 223 super varmint . Could anyone measure theirs to see how much free space for a moderator in front of the stock . Thanks ps any moderator recommendations that fit said rifle s
  9. Thanks for reply Alan looks like might have about 8 1/2” inch spare just enough to get a standard size T12 mod to fit . Cheers Rich
  10. Hi all Anyone got a .223 sako 85 varmint laminate stainless with 20” barrel . I’m wanting to know the length of barrel in front of the stock regarding how big a wildcat moderator can be fitted . Otherwise it’s go for a 24” barrelled tikka tac or super varmint with KRG or MDT chassis ?? . Thanks in advance .
  11. From 1050 down to 987 FPS I’ll lose 4 metres at two mils in the scope ie two mils was 96metres and now it’s 92m , no big deal . Zeroed at 23/45 near and far pb. Need to get the magneto out again when allowed to play .
  12. Nice one , I’ll pop it into StrelokPro and check the drops/mils
  13. Rechecked the Annie barrel only 14” and use the ASE UTRA steel mod . The rws according to reviews are about 970 FPS so slower than others and have a bit stickier wax on them from looking back in my notebook. Used to get bored at the range shooting small holes in the target so started shooting out the scoring numbers . Last set of rws was from gilsans at Richmond North Yorkshire. Think a trip is in order when allowed . Great thread lots of information. Thanks to all for some good work and photos .
  14. Great photos, think it’s time to retry the rws a true 40 grainer . Hope you enjoyed the sarnies , top marks to wifey . Cheers
  15. There was a big ammo test a few years back in sporting rifle and on YouTube s shooting show tv by one of the pace brothers. Group size and expansion were tested & eley came tops . Just measured depth of the hollow point , eley 6mm and 11.9 mm long cci 4.5 mm and 12.78 mm long so eley are short with a big hole up the middle hence they are lighter?????
  16. Just for info CCI subs use 1.04 grains of powder .
  17. Answer to no i deer only got some cci subs but haven’t tried them yet . I’ll pull one this afternoon and weigh it . one on top of two great set of results and thanks for the pictures. My anschutz prefers the rws subs but they are hard to find , Winchester subs usually give a tight group but tend to have a vertical spread from the 16” barrel . I’ve stuck with eley as they’re easy to get and they do mushroom very well . below photos of weight of CCI subs claimed to be 40 grains and 1050 FPS. Mushroom effect of eley subs now weighing 36.34 grains from 37.1 so called 40 grainers .
  18. Eley subs new type 36.14 grains box claims 38grains eley subs old box logo 37.1 grains box claims 40 grains. quality control not too good
  19. Try the premier inn at Dumfries. We used to do an early start from home then shoot all day then over to the premier inn for overnight stay etc . nice view of the valley to 1400 y .
  20. This inspired me to dig out some gear , power supply and icom 7000 and tuner LDG100 . Got it working on 2 metres and 40 metres using diamond aerials on a mag mount on the garage door . Looking to put it in the hilux. Wound the power levels down to 80% to reduce the amps so cigar lighter can be used . 73s G6ICZ
  21. Hi guys regarding Scenar normals versus the “L” version. Only used them in 308 / 155 grain, but the “L” is definitely more pointed at the tip and has a smaller hole up the tip . It looks similar to a bullet that’s been through a pointing die . Hole size is half or better than the scenar normal . Viht web page for loading data in 308 I’ve found to be very conservative by upto 2 grains ie I’ve gone +2 grains over max and still no signs of overpressure. As always build up your loads cheers
  22. Hi there just for info Alan Rhône do lots of set back picatinny rails by contessa for night vision kit which might help . cheers
