  1. Just check that the 24” barrel is threaded as think it’s the t3x varmint in 20” is the only one threaded 18x1. Very happy with mine but would of preferred the adj cheek piece super varmint. Silly waiting times for them . Check all the dealers for actual in stock rifles . good luck
  2. Well done hope you get good results . For 1000 yards I had some good success with 155 Sierra Tmk and bergers . Tmk needed about .2 mil less drop than the Berger . Best we’re 175 LRBT or 185 juggernaut bergers . These need 10.4 to 11 mil of up adjust with a 100 y zero . Shot at eskdalemuir with StrelokPro and shot the gongs from 300 to 1k and trued up the drops in StrelokPro to real time figures , known FPS so just tweak the bc a bit . Wrong temp and millibar pressures make a big difference at 1000 y . 4 pint milk jug at 700 was easy but gong at 1014 was hard work . You’ll get addicted- have fun cheers
  3. 45 grains of N550 gave me 2611 FPS with a 168 Amax and a 26” barrel . Looking at the lapua website I’m over 2 grains above max on some loads with no signs of any damage . Keep going in .5 steps till you find another sweet spot then fine tune again . With Sierra 168s lapua site says 47.? Of n550 for 2729 FPS from 24” barrel. Slow and heavy bullets really do better than fast and light . Laurie commented on my post years ago saying the boat tail didn’t help on the 168 amax and that it’s not too good over 600 yards. Cheers
  4. Latest test tonight 22.5 grain of n135 with 73 g Berger . Five shot group with 4 through the big hole . Moved a bit over for the last shot so I was still hitting steel . Need to use the hardox target as this 3mm plate isn’t strong enough at 100 metres
  5. StrelokPro was a tenner I think . And the free lapua ballistic calc works well too . You’ll need bullet speed from a chrony to get the best results . StrelokPro has lots of info tables and reticle pictures and target pictures to superimpose on your reticle also wind and drop tables . Also tuneable for speed and actual bc of bullets . Applied ballistic s version is very good too . Have fun playing . StrelokPro needs trueing up with your actual drop data , we did this at eskdalemuir from 300 to 1000 yards now it’s very accurate if correct weather is put into the system .
  6. N135 for 155 s in 308 I use 42.5 grains giving less than thumb size groups at 100m 5 shot groups. and for 223 in 52 to 60 grain Berger s I use 25grains of n135 . Although N150 is best for 308 heavies ie 175/185 , 44.5 grains ish . Cheers
  7. Cheers Mat Are they the quiet type of material or a bit crunchy to start with before they bed in a bit . Cureently using digicam harkila but foxy seems to know there’s something there , don’t get the same result with the plain green nomad gear I use for winter and it seems less bright in low light or at night whereas the harkila glows like a lighthouse. If I can see me so can all the animals .
  8. Thanks for info , looking forward to the show’s starting so I can try a pair . After lockdown not sure of my new waistline lol . Sas smock and waterproof trousers are on the shopping list . cheers
  9. If going by hornady manual a52g Amax standard load length is 2.230” this would be a 7 thou jam in my rifle t3x varmint, so I wasn’t happy with that so took off ten thou for a coal of 2.213” ( not as cbto as I got the numbers wrong ) . This makes cbto to be 1.8205” . Agree with not too much worry when there’s a jump as in 308 it’s massive but don’t fancy a jam with unknowns of pressure. It’s worth taking time to measure .
  10. Fortis look good , some nice camo patterns too . Anyone got any info about them ??
  11. Hi all I have tried a few loads for the tikka 1:8” and was looking for something a little better and saw the specs for the above which look to be very promising. High bc and good sectional density . Anyone got any gen on these bullets . Already tried Berger 55,60 and 73 grain. Amax 52 s all with good results . ps info on nosler 70g RDF s appreciated . looking at the above bullets as they are available. cheers and thanks

  13. Yep I’m getting that too , probably for the last week or so . Can’t load / go back in history more than a few days . No idea why
  14. Sorry forgot to say that it’s all in the bullet shape to how far the coal will be . Bergers allow upto 2.3” coal to the lands as they are tangent shapes but a secant shaped Amax is 2.213” cbto . This is with a tikka varmint 20” stainless .
  15. Hi there 2.26” is very close to mag length of standard tikka mags , I bought some WR MAGS from rifle mags . Uk . Which allow a much longer coal . I’m using Berger 55 , 60,73 grain bullets and Amax 52 grain all with viht 135 and using 25 grains for all except the 73s where it’s 22.5 g . Basically using the lapua web reloading page and knocking off a grain from max as a starting point , so could do the same for n140 .
  16. Changed the rcbs trickler for a dandy product s version and mounted the thrower on the bench with the flat plate to the left of where I sit infront of the scales . Loading can be slow but reduces the chances of mistakes . I have the primed cases ready to put powder in , then load them singly with powder, look down to see where the powder is then move over and seat the bullet . While doing this I’ve also got the next powder bulk weight sat settling on the scale ready for the last grain or so to be trickled in . The v4 looks great but will I be loading and have a ready to go powder load just sat there waiting for me to be a bit quicker???? . happy reloading
  17. Just had a look at the webpage and the version 4 looks great . All one unit to fit on top of the scales . Should be worth waiting for . Twin motors and no powder thrower . Much more like industrial loss in weight feeders .
  18. Got my AND 120 sat on the bench with a dandy product s trickler . Throw your powder to approx 2 grain lower than set point then trickle in to spot on weight . Two kernels of N150 = 0.02 grains . Even on max sensitivity let it settle a few seconds . Add or take out a couple of kernel s by tweezers to get it cock on .
  19. For 308 try Berger long range boat tail 175 with 44.5 grain of n150 . From a 26” barrel you’ll be good to 900 yds . Spot on at 700 but marginal at 1000 yds mine run at 2660 FPS . COAL 2.9” or CBTO 2.237 “ .
  20. Happy to help mate . Just thought that you could try melting cheap soap bars into a large bread loaf mould to make a chunk of soap to capture your bullets . Think I’ve seen this done on YouTube somewhere . Ballistic gel wasn’t cheap .
  21. Had a block of gel 5” square by 12” long and results of .22 eley subs and hmr vmax were very good and stopped in the block when shot at normal distances for the calibres . The subs mushroom nicely and vmax explodes into lots of fragments. 3mm steel plate at 100 m stops 223 53g Amax but dents a lot and 55 g game heads by sako go straight through . Had a lot of rabbits shot with hmr and they don’t always expand , just a small hole in and out . The 55g sako rounds on fox don’t always expand either . Ballistic gel shows the bullet working at its best but maybe not the same as real life scenarios. If your shooting gel get a good size block as it’s easier to hit multiple times. Enjoy
  22. Please measure for your col as my tikka with some bullets would be well jammed into the rifling using the info above .

  24. Sorry meant to say Vihtavuori web shows this info . If the page your looking at is just a massive list tap on the wanted bullet and it gives an option to fill in your info and also has the twist rate . This is the page with a dark background. There is another with a white background that shows different twists and throat lengths used . cheers
