  1. Tried some tennex once. Very good but not worth double the cost of SK rifle match as it’s not double the performance! I’m in agreement. Fliers count, be it the person or wind! Also when it comes to .22LR I think 10 shot groups give you a lot of information.
  2. Guys I’m not sure if your aware but Alan or Cheetor on here is doing AI AR pistol grip conversions for your AX, AT or AXMC. I love my thumbhole on my AT but something about the grip on the AX has always bugged me. Never been as comfy as AR grips I’ve put on chassis systems or my old KRG W3. Really well engineered, it’s an custom machined aluminium trigger guard that the AR grip bolts to. It’s secured using the trigger bolts then the stock AI skins have been custom trimmed and painted to the same colour to your AI. The mod only takes around 20mins to install and is fully reversible back to standard in a flash. I’m very happy. 3. But I’m guessing you’ll have an extra ~100fps from having the 28” barrel
  4. Is it a range rifle or walk about / cross over rifle? If it’s purely range work, get the varmint as they barrel profile is slightly thicker. My CTR used to walk off when it got hot after only reasonably short shot strings. If you’re walking about with it the CTR is perfect and the GRS bifrost is a great stock. Spare CTR mags are expensive or were when I had one, and I prefer the AICS. But you could always change your mind to AICS later on down the line of you wanted to. You can get bottom metals that accept both CTR and AICS magazines which might be the most sensible option.
  5. What length barrel do you have? Not sure what others found, but I’ve always found my velocities were higher than the predicted charge weights that RS provided. Also as stated above, factory loading predict 2695 fps from a 24” barrel.... did you ever chrono them in your rifle, to gauge if your barrel is slow or fast.

  7. Initial thoughts: Preowned: S&B Ultra short 3 or 5-20x50 S&B PM 4-16x50 March 3-24x52 Kahles 3-18x50 Minox ZP5 3-15x50 New you have quite a few options along with SFP Although quite rare in the U.K. in Mil variant and illuminated consider saving some money and looking at Bushnell LRHS 4.5-18x44
  8. I’m assuming weight is important if going on a stalking rig? I’m assuming FFP but would you entertain a SFP?
  9. From what I’ve read mk 5&6 are supposed to be excellent scopes and lightweight compared to its competitors. Only trouble with Leupold is that in the U.K. the pricing seems ridiculous and not warranted in my opinion and there does seem to QC issues in the states with quite a few duff ones churned out. However get yourself a good one I’m sure it would be lovely. If you like something different have you thought about some of March’s new offerings or soon to be released ones. edit - just seen the 2k budget. Ignore the March comment then!
  10. Looking great. Seems good speed from the heavies..... May I ask your load data?
  11. For that impressive rig I might be tempted with either: ASE SL7i Laurence Precison MAE moderator
  12. Btw that is your .300NM rifle its going on? Very jealous by all accounts a very capable caliber
  13. Budget? Use? What’s important to you weight or longevity end of barrel or reflex etc. ASE SL7i is very effective and is my first thought but we would need to know a little bit what your looking for in a moderator.
  14. Most ballistic calculators have zero offset function. So you just tell the app or program you are offset by x or y left / right / up / down and it will factor into calculations. strelok for example:

  18. Yeah that’s my point. Lots of people had issues while torquing up the rings to 20-25in/lbs as per ring manufacturers instructions . Vortex used to have a slip in the box telling you the value needed. If it’s secondhand it might not be included. The newer vortex scopes are listing the recommended value in their manual now to stop this issue. Plenty of users have fixed there reticle or tracking issues based on just dialing back down to circa 17in/lbs. I would check this before anything else. If you do have a problem, thankfully it will be sorted by their excellent warranty.
  19. “Specific torque setting” is that as per ring manufacture or vortex scope recommendations? Some of the newer vortex come with quite low suggested torque values approx 17-18 in/lbs
  20. What do you class as a cold bore shot? Cold bore, cold shooter and clean bore? Cold bore, fouled bore, cold shooter? Cold bore, fouled bore, warm shooter? I’ve found very little difference in my cold bore shots, but a significant difference with a clean bore. Most people confuse the two, but both often go hand in hand. Ie the shooter will clean their rifle and put in back in the cabinet. So next time they use it, it will have both clean and cold bore. I believe the first clean bore shot will be off due to the cleaning residue, oil being left in the bore. Causing a POI change. Also cleaning the barrel will remove copper fouling which help to fill the imperfections in the lands and grooves. As the bore gets dirty shots will fall to a more consistent to POI. Obviously when fouling reaches a certain level accuracy will drop back off again.
