Gun porn and good music

Ian,

I would say that was Grey MarineTex, I've used it and it looks/works just like that and one of the tins in the background looks similar to the large packs. Very good, used by quite a few folks in the US (GA Precision, KMW, the US Marine corp). I switched from Devcon to this product.

Vince,

Unfortunatly I do not think there is a UK importer for MarineTex, I normally lug back a few of the 2oz packs each time I go to the US, they are just the right size for my level of rifle bedding jobs, a 'big' heavy bench rifle would probably require 2 packs - but they are only about 10 pounds a pack.

I think I've about 4 on the shelf, if you want to try this compound I could post you one?

I've found it easier to 'work' than Devocon/Belzona, about the consistency of clotted cream, cleans up easy.

nice to watch someone else,s approaches.

The paintwork was great fun....took me back to my airbrushing days on Harleys etc. I have something similar planned shortly.

Terry, without wishing to sound like a wet blanket, i would be very careful indeed posting anything that looks like plastic explosive out of the US, here, and devcon/marine tex etc could easily be mistaken for it.

The that which promotes growth and vigour has hit the fan here, over the last 24 hours. You watch now, every single parcel that goes on a UPS plane [the 3rd biggest airline ! ] will be opened.

Forget trying to get anything out of the states without the license anymore....

Vince,

Have you tried that stuff that Luke has got ? He gave me some, i haven,t tried it yet, but it looks like a cross between them both, consistency wise. Luke says its absolutely brilliant.

Baldie,

I don't put it in the post/mail I hand carry it in my checked luggage for that very reason. If you mail from the US to the UK you have to state (at least with the USPS) that there are no liquids in the parcel and put your (the senders that is) address on the parcel.

Flix, while I agree a good bedding job is within the reach of a capable ameteur the rifle is individual and to the owners desire, I diassagree re. the air brushing, it is about the only thing you can do to a rifle re. 'bling' and although a fan of green and functional it is boring, you can only have so many Multicam rifles before you want to do something a bit different, e.g. This one I sorted for a friend a while ago:

Stops it being boring

Liked the build sequences. Pity about the music. <_<

The machining is nothing that a good 3rd year apprentice tool maker couldn't produce in the right machine shop. There are some who get away with a lot poorer and still manage to find someone to pay them for what they slap into an action. Airbrush work was so old school, hot flames and playing cards.................oh come on! That was all done with back in the 80's, Yawnsville Tx style.

You know Flix, you are reminiscent of a certain character that was banned from A.R a while ago. There are certain similarities in your style. I hope you're not one and the same as that character got on everyones nerves to no uncertain extent.

If you are one and the same then consider leaving now as I for one will be pulling the troll card.

Thanks

G

Elwood,

The 'art bit (Bulldog on the Union Flag and eagle on the Stars and Stripes) was done by an old hippy in Arizona who normally worked on bikes, you can actually 'look' into the eyes of both. the Flag was carried out by a Alvin TX bike guy who happened to like doing rifles for a change. The stock is the McMilla Edge - which is fugly, so he airbrushed the two different flags on either side of the stock, they look like they have been draped over the rifle.

My freind let me have free hand in the design, he simply said he'd like a UK/US split on it as it was build in the US but destined for the UK. I did not send any photos before hand, first he saw was opening the rifle case in the UK.

I'll see if I've any other close ups to hand, sort of still on the original topic, if folks don't mind?

Is that your rofle Tony, did not think BR was your thing.

Recantly i have had very good results using JB Weld as a bedding compound, the 10oz pack contains two 5oz tubes one of steel bearing resin the other of hardener, with a 1:1 mix ratio 2oz is easily enough for one complete bedding job.
