  3. Just interested in what others are doing, but yes, replies should be qualified with expected groupings
  4. As we all know, when it comes to reloading consistency is king. But what level of accuracy is good enough for you? How many decimal points are enough?! When it comes to weights and measures what +/- or % figures are you working to on your micrometer or scales for the variables? Bullet weight/batches? Primer pocket sizing? Case weight/batches? Case length? Powder weight? Overall length?
  5. I think I'd like to work up a load so would need more than a few sorry. Many thanks for the offer though 👍
  6. I'm thinking about trying some loads with 155gn bullets in the 308. Anyone have any spare they no longer need? Thanks
  7. Lots of great wisdom imparted there gents. Many thanks 👍
  8. Has anyone had any experience of these custom made mod covers? They appear to be the same material as those made for ASE (Cordura and Nomex). Are they effective in reducing heat mirage? At circa £25 posted they seem reasonable...although the ASE ones are only £27 from Jacksons https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233258410731 I see from their other items they also do rear bags
  9. I believe it was Alison I spoke to who advised me against the Evo for range use, said to go for the Pred 8
  10. Ah, yes that makes sense. Found this which seems to explain it quite well too. https://www.alanrhone.com/products-aimsport-threads.html
  11. That's a positive review!
  12. Hi, can you enlighten me to the thread please? I've read about spigot threads but I'm not sure exactly what they are. My previous Utra Compact was a normal M18x1 so the barrel threaded into the mod. From my understanding a spigot version sticks proud of the mod? Is there a purpose to this?
  13. Anyone had any experience of these? Where do they sit in the marketplace these days? https://www.barnesbullets.com/bullets/match-burner/
  14. Just considering what my stock options would be on a pre-2005 Savage Model 12 with top loading magazine? Savage changed action screw spacing in 2005 to the longer 4.4in spacing. There's seems to be a few options for these later rifles, but I'm struggling to find any for earlier models. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  15. I'm thinking about a Wildcat Evolution for my 308 but was advised by them to get the Predator 12 as the Evolution wouldn't perform as well, or may deteriorate quicker, through heavy range use. I was told the Evo was more lightweight for stalking. Has anyone had any experience of this? I am told the Evolution has a 25mm internal diameter tube, so should contain my 20.8mm outside diameter barrel? Or do I just look for a ASE Utra Jet-Z Compact again?
  16. Potentially interested in the 155s and a few hundred of the 190s if you can split? PM sent
  17. The likes of Lilja offer charts showing which bullet weights are most appropriate for the twist rate of your barrel. But presumably bullet weights in the middle of this range are more accurate than bullet weights at the extremities? If so how much more accurate? For example a 308 with 1 in 10 twist shows as being able to use bullet weights from 168gn to 200gn...so does that mean that a weight in the middle (circa 185gn) will be more accurate than those at the top (200gn) or bottom (168gn) of the range? If so is this likely to be a measurable difference in grouping size? https://riflebarrels.com/calibers-and-twist-rates/
  18. I'm considering 190gn. I've a 1 in 10 twist and have been working up a 168gn load but thinking it may be better suited to a slightly heavier bullet weight for improved groups and reaching out to greater ranges (I'd like to reach over 1000m this year if possible).
  19. I'm using Reload Swiss RS50 for 308win loads. I'm thinking about trying at bullet weights, but the data RS provide is limited. How do you safely work out the start and max load when no manufacturer data is available for the bullet weight your considering? Average powder weights between the data of the bullets weights that is avaliable? See what others online use? Contact the manufacturer in case they have unpublished data? Thanks in advance Oly
  20. After a lot of thinking I've decided to sell a load of gear, including my Sako Finnfire Varmint to fund our self build project. A great little rifle, hard to find and excellent build quality. The barrel is ~18" and threaded making this a very accurate well balanced rifle. I regularly shoot rabbits with subs at 80 - 100 yards without any trouble. The rifle will come with it's SAK moderator, thread protector and two 5 round magazines. A sizeable quantity of ammunition is also negotiable. SOLD I'm based near Nantwich but work throughout North and Mid Wales should you wish to meet up somewhere. RFD to RFD is also an option. Cheers, Oly
