No i deer…… how do you find the Eldm’s for being ‘fussy’ in 308? Only asking because I use the Eldm’s 285grn in 338 ( excellent bc to weight ratio) but in a couple of barrels they do not shoot as well as Scenars which are easy to tune.

Personally I use a Berger 155gr hybrids but in an AWP 24” 1 in 12 factory barrel. I have little expectation that they will be supersonic much past 800m. Anything within reason at 300 to 600 yards can work well eg Scenar’s don’t have the best bc but are very consistent. At 1000 yards (more so 1000m) is going to be a very difficult challenge out a of a 26” tube. This is an article I found on Geoff Kolbe’s webpage some time ago ( he’s on ukv ). For those who remember back in the day of pistols the HK P7 (PSP, -,m13 etc) were iconic. The design really went nowhere for 30 years being very expensive to produce. A few years ago Laugo Arms started to produce the Alien pistol. Same fixed barrel system as the p7 and gas system but with the gas piston above the barrel giving a very low bore axis (think Chiappa). The grip and interchangeable top straps for iron and red dot sights show the design updates . Sadly the price didn’t get any cheaper - it a £5k pistol. I’ve had this for a month or so……it might yet replace my STI 2011.

Andy, I’ve got one of Alan’s trigger guard / AR grip conversations on my AXMC I’m very happy with it. A friend has an ATX with the AI match trigger in it. I’ll ask him if it’s worth the £500 over the standard one.

I like that bag rider. Add a hinge to the stock and it’s hard to see what else you would want for PRS without spending a lot more money.

I’m guessing the show organisers and the parking are two different entities. Oddly where we are staying it’s cheaper to park in the Airport car park than use the car park at the accommodation.

A basic 3mx3m stand cost about £2k with electricity supply, but not 13 amp - for a kettle……that would be about £300 extra. There are other cost, insurance, PAT testing not to mention parking, food and accommodation. I’ve budgeted £4 k for this event. Compared to the IWA, ( not advertising there) it’s small change though.

I would not overlook the importance of a quick change barrel feature on whatever platform you go with. Two barrels in a calibre that uses the same bolt face, or a 22” barrel and 30” barrel in something like 6.5 creed could be very versatile. It’s a bit more than a guess as I’ve done that with an AI in 338 lm (a few 20” barrels and a 25” barrel………my application is different but same principle). I’ve had DTA and currently use a few AI’s. Both are very good. The DTA offers a shorter OAL by a good six inches for the same barrel length - might be a consideration for hunting. AI AT and AX are very good - I would prefer something with a bit of plastic on it rather than just an alloy chassis for hunting like an ATX ( alloy gets cold in winter). I would have a look at Victrix rifles too - here (cz) an entry chassis one is not that much more than a Tikka Tac AI.

Depends how keen you are to leave your finger prints on the barrel and not no your hands. 2 belts through a vz59 ( Brenish) works a treat Nicest thing to change a barrel on is an Uzi.

A different perspective on it - how do you like your recoil? Bouncy or direct? I’ve used a few bipods from a Parker Hale to Harris to Rempel to MDT to Fortmeier (hangs beneath) and others. The Fortmeier was very stable but so was the Rempel. The difference to me and I think it is personal preference is how you want the bipod to track (or bounce). An AXMC is a heavy rifle but in 338 LM it still has a bit of recoil I found the Fortmeier and Harris to have the most bounce. Less so the Rempel but that was about as heavy as a car jack. A bipod which has a bit of slack in the legs (pivots) like a AI ( AX) bipod or PH or MDT or Atlas means you need to pre-load it to get it stable but the recoil seems more direct back into my shoulder with less bounce. I prefer this. I have friends with the same rifle who prefer the Fortmeier. Maybe it bounces less for them? For an over the barrel bipod the Fortmeier is well made for a reasonable price. Saddle type bipods like the Atlas H series tend to give a larger leg spread which can translate into more stability.

AIAXMC - about a minute. Sig mpx - about a minute ( 16” pcc barrel and forend exchange to 6.5” barrel forend and suppressor. John how do you find the Carbon forend? - the one on the mpx is by Lancer - gucci but a potential negative (unless you run a suppressor inside it) is the diameter is larger than a regular aluminium forend so a C grip is not as comfortable.

Lee, biggest question for me - is it available with the LRR reticle. I’ve got the 5-45x56 pm2 which is superb with this reticle (as per your recommendation). However if I compare it to my Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56, with Mil C reticle - for me it’s honestly just the LRR reticle and double turn turret that makes the S&B better. This scopes looks to be a more compact form factor but the illumination dial looks odd - sticks out a long way. The world has moved on - push button illumination is industry standard on everything else. Glad they have the double turn elevation turret on it. I’ll try to get a butchers at it at the BSS or IWA.

We have a stand booked for the BSS at the NEC. Fingers crossed that goes ahead as accommodation and other expenses are not going to be refundable. IWA - like edi, we keep getting a lot of online info - if it happens I will go for a look around. I still have the tickets from the last cancellation so hopefully they will still be valid.

I put on a small Christmas shoot at my range for the locals. Some arrived in style (A Black Rifle Coffee custom Ram with lift kit is also in the works)……but I like the Spitfire My son with a Glock 17 and my suppressed Sig MPX. We made COFa up as we went along, a modified El Prez ( without dumping mags in the snow) and some movement skills and drills. Range food Wishing everyone a nice time at their range also.

Rhudson, I own a shooting range as a commercial business, be it a small 50m one in CZ . This would be my suggestions. 1. Listen to Dave T, he knows of what he speaks. 2. Do not form a club - , keep it strictly commercial. I cannot stress this enough. 3. Look for stable and multiple income streams - Police bookings being an excellent one - ask what they want, - vehicle access, 90 or 180 degree arc of fire if possible? This is one of my stable income streams. 4. Try to get away from fixed firing point / prone position only - this opens the way to PRS style competition. This would be a BIG money earner for you if are in a central location in the country and can provide ranges out to 700m. People want to do this sport but there is nothing located central in the country for easy access / travel. If you could do this it would be the golden goose. 5. If you are going to the British Shooting Show in February ( presuming it will run) stop by for a chat and coffee at our stand -Czech Tactical Pursuits. Good luck with your venture.

We (Czech Tactical) have used many bipod over three decades of shooting. The humble Harris has always been good but tech moves on…… so does the price. A BRMS Harris will set you back £100 or so, a OEM AI AXMC bipod about £250. So I was expecting something exceptional with the MDT HD Ckye Pod at about £800. First impressions were that compared to the the AI bipod it’s big, heavy and the legs are looser than a Holbeck girls on Saturday night. So what’s all the hype about? Really I would say versatility. Fancy pan and and tilt functions are nice as is the plate adapter option - Picatinny or Arca Swiss but for me it comes down to two key things: Firstly leg spread so you can go from a wide f-class type spread to narrower spreads giving more height - the bipod is usable for sitting position. Secondly with a long picatinny rail under the forend tube you can slide the bipod along the rail - this is a big plus for me as you can set it up for maximum stability at the end of the rail or slide it back closer to the magazine for easy setup in sitting position. It’s literally a push button to do this. For PRS stuff the bipod can be used as a barricade stop or to sandwich a shooting bag in place. When weighted the legs become solid. First impressions were not positive, second impressions after some use were much better. We would like closer tolerances with regard to the play in the legs and also the skateboard tape on the legs although very functional is a bit cheesy for a £800 bit of kit.

Andy, very much conjecture but I would would hazard a guess at different reamers and throats……..the AXMC ( still the same one I got all them years back) has the factory 25” tube, Krieger 20” tube (and a new factory 20” tube that I have not shot). The 25” factory and 20” Krieger will shoot Lapua, Bergers and Hornady Eldm’s. A mates much newer AXMC will only shoot Lapua Scenars - really hates Eldm’s. He swapped it for a US AI factory made 27” tube - likes Bergers and Eldm’s now. This is in 338. I can’t see anything obviously different with a bore scope. I haven’t measured the throats though.

several options - Give Sporting Services a ring. They at least do a zero MOA picatinny rail. It then increases ring / mount options. Spuhr do direct AI 11mounts at various MOA - this would be my choice. Brugger and Thomet do a 11mm to 20 MOA picatinny rail (or at least did). I had one on a 338lm AW . Nick, is it an AW or AX model ( I don’t know about other models) ? You don’t need a bolt tool - cycle the bolt but don’t fire it, put the safety in the middle position it’s a three position safety ( safety is on but bolt cycles). Remove the bolt and press the detent plunger with your finger tip , bolt comes apart and assembles easily as it’s already cocked so there is no firing pin spring tension. Takes about 1 second once the bolt is out of the rifle.
