  1. Nice to know I’m not the only one annoyed by that dreadful man being knighted.
  2. My Henry shoots well with 7.6 grains Unique and 240 grain lead hard cast RNFP. I find any load greater than this gives me leading issues with Unique. From memory that gives about 1100 FPS. Hits what it points at 50 yards.
  3. Try Cannock rifle club. Very friendly and one shoot a month at Kingsbury usually alternating 300 and 600 plus a monthly short range session locally in Staffordshire. All very handy for Warwick
  4. You won’t be the only one not renewing Ralph. Offa’s was my primary club on my FAC but just had that changed to a more friendly and frankly active club on my latest renewal with plod.
  5. To quote James Fenimore Cooper: “they are a breed apart and make no sense“....... 😀
  6. I shoot my No5 pretty regularly and really, anything beyond 100 yards unless it’s big, just doesn’t work with my ageing eyes. So, I limit my time with this fabulous little rifle to 100 yards or less apart from the occasional 300 yard session at Kingsbury where I feel great if the holes appear in the black bit 😀 For 100 yards or less I find the typical shoot n see targets visible for most situations and a quick squint through some bino’s if I’m struggling always works for me.
  7. I have a Howa in 223 in the Aussie Precision stock with 1:8 24” barrel. I’ve shot alongside the lone gunman with this set up at 1000 yards and have had limited success. Popsbengo is correct, witchcraft is at play with his Tikka 😈 Dont overlook the Howa’s. They are very capable rifles with the right load. Mine will group just under 1 moa with 69g Sierra matchkings or TMK’s at 600 yards if I play my part and consistently sub moa at 500 yards and less. You’ll get better build quality with Tikka but for what you’re after, I’d go for Howa all day long, some of the package deals are hard to ignore.
  8. Almost forgot...... the a Jaguar Rifle Club in Coventry shoot at Kingsbury too...
  9. If you want to shoot close to Warwick, then Kingsbury is probably the most local decent range to you. A number of clubs shoot there when/if they get the chance. Offa’s is the obvious choice but not one I’d recommend if you want a cheerful experience 😀 You could try others such as Warwickshire Armourers, Cannock or Solihull clubs, a quick google will reveal details or go via the NRA website links where you might get others that shoot there. Failing that, join the NRA and make the slog down to Bisley, always worth the trip in my opinion and you’re close to the M40 anyway.
  10. Thank goodness you’re ok! A sobering reminder to wear safety glasses. I keep a pair at my loading bench all the time.
  11. Averaging 2660 fps and 2.283” measured to the ogive
  12. I’ve used 139 scenars in my creedmoor for ages now and have a great and accurate load. However, I’ve been offered 400 Hornady 140g eld’s by a friend at what can only be described as a great price and not wishing to look a gift horse in the mouth, I’m very tempted. I really can’t be bothered with load development again just for this batch of bullets and just wondered if others have seen any significant difference between the two designs (other than dimensions of course) for the same powder and charge. I suspect the change will be small, faster probably and the mutt behind the butt will be the greater variable. 24” barrel, 1:8 twist, RS62 powder, usually shooting 1000 yards. Any real life experience will be appreciated.
  13. All I use in my 6.5 creedmoor, great bullet to 1000 yards which is the furthest I’ve used them for. My Brass is Lapua small rifle primer, I use CCI 450 primers and RS62 exclusively and get on a typical 1000 yard shoot just under 1 moa grouping with my 24” 1:8 barrel.
  14. God I hate it when people say that 😊No idea what the value is second hand. Would £20 delivered be a good number for you?
  15. Thanks Pops - don’t hoist me up until I get the V
  16. Thanks for the input folks. A general consensus seems to be the Whitetail Classic and I’m surprised how cheap they are, certainly worth considering. Thought about red dot sights but not sure whether they’re just an optic too far for a lever gun, but yes, this growing old is rubbish. I remember Terry Wogan saying once that if you have to sit down to put your socks on and you still make a noise when doing it then you’re definitely old..... I’ve been doing that for years!
  17. Hi All, I know it’s sacrilege to put a scope on a lever gun but I think my eyes have reached a point where nature is trumping lever gun design. I am the new owner of a Henry in 44 Rem Mag that I purchased second hand with a Skinner Express sight installed thinking my eyes would be ok with a ghost ring aperture. Great at 25 yards but at 50, no chance if I’m honest. I don’t want to win any competitions, just plinking fun but have been thinking of a 1 - 4 boar hunting type of set up. Just wondering what others use, pro’s and con’s etc. Thoughts gratefully received.
  18. Only place where muzzle breaks (did that on purpose Pops) are a “thing” in my experience is Bisley. They do seem to wind people up down there. Always declare them on my bookings when I use them, never seems to stop some folks moaning though.
