  1. I've also shot this bullet with great effect from a 24" barrel (not a Tikka though) 243. Also used N160 with around 43grns of powder (I think !) which helped to preserve barrel life (N150 may be a little hot ?). Myself and my cousin had the same configuration and his eventually went south after 4000+ rounds..........I got bored with mine and swapped it for a 6BR ! Regards, Rob.
  2. I've owned and shot both. Both were on a Stiller single shot action and unusually with the same barrel. Initially chambered in 243Ackley and then re-chambered to 6BR when I fell out of love with the 243..........I then fell out of love with the 6BR and have had the action barrelled in a 284. I personally found absolutely no accuracy difference between the two chambering. Obviously the 243Ackley held much more powder and was therefore faster than the BR with the same bullet (85grn game kings) which resulted in not a lot more than a few less clicks of elevation ! I've got to buck the trend here and say I did not particularly enjoy shooting the 6BR.....nothing to do with the case per se as i've got a 22BR and absolutely love that.....I just couldn't fall in love with it. I know the current thinking is that the short/fat case is inherently more accurate and that may be so in the world of benchrest shooting but I personally think in a hunting application you won't find any difference..........just my opinion for what it's worth. Regards, Rob.
  3. Hi Lee, Berger manual predicts 31fps loss per inch from 24" downwards. I shoot 50/52 grain through my 20" Shillen barrel and get 3650 fps.....more than enough in my opinion ! 22BR with relatively fast powder will be fully burned by 16" (or so I'm reliably informed by the 'Smith who built the gun) so 20" barrel is fine. Mine is a very heavy profile and has almost no recoil. I love it ! Regards, Rob.
  4. I have an AI Ax chassis with 20" Bartlein barrel barrel, built by Steve Kershaw.......I absolutely love the cartridge and the build. I use 32grn of N135 behind either 50grn V-max or 52grn Berger....both shoot great groups at around 3650fps. Couldn't be happier Regards, Rob.
  5. Definitely agree with the above........got to be marginal on rats at 100yds. If you're static with a great rest and solid comfortable position then give it a go, but if you're wandering around or shooting out of, or off the bonnet of a vehicle, then too many variables at 100 yds with the semi auto........probably marginal IMO with a 22lr of any flavour. Regards, Rob.
  6. Thanks Scotch Egg.......I had considered the ELD-X and they're readily available. Have you used them for foxing ? Do they expand well enough ? Regards, Rob.
  7. I had one of these and used it regularly for ratting and rabbiting. I think it was the 16" carbon barrel version and was very accurate with most ammunition, best being Eley I seem to remember.....it would shoot 1" groups at 100yds if I concentrated and did my bit but average was around 1.5-2.0". I don't have it any more as I don't have the time to use it, I remember it would feed well with the 10 round mags but struggled with the larger 30 round mags.....I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one, but the usual caveats apply if buying secondhand..........enjoy ! Regards, Rob.
  8. Looking for advice/experience please. I'm having a .284 built with a 26" barrel in 1:9 twist, on a Stiller Predator single shot action, so no issues with feeding/OAL. I'd like to shoot a bullet in the 150-180grn range, but here's the issue...........I'd like to shoot longish range (up to 1000yds) on paper/steel but also use it for hunting, mainly UK deer and also a bit of foxing/varminting. My thoughts were initially with the Berger VLD family but now considering 160grn Sierra TMK. Anyone got any experience or advice, or am I looking for a Holy Grail bullet that doesn't exist ?? Regards, Rob.

  10. Its because the NEC have banned all big game operators from the show after receiving complaints "from their customers" and a petition with 35000 signatures lobbying them not to allow the safari operators........thin end of the wedge methinks !! Regards, Rob. ps long thread on SD about this.
  11. I run a 22BR for foxing in an AI AX chassis. When looking at barrel length I confess I went purely for aesthetics as I wanted my mod to fit snuggly up to the barrel shield. Goes against conventional wisdom but ended up at 19.75" Shoots way better than me with 50grn Bergers running at 3640fps........not had any complaints from Charlie out to 400yds....just bang flop ! Bonus is hardly any recoil in that chassis so get to see the whole show. Can't recommend the cartridge highly enough. Attached is a 5 shot group at 200yds. Regards, Rob.
  12. Hi Paul, I had a problem with an NXS I bought off here.....wouldn't hold more than a 4" group at 100yds. Sent it via my RFD to SGC who checked it and said they had shot it and agreed it would only hold a 4" group but thought that was acceptable !! A brief discussion between me/RFD/SGC and they sent it back to USA.......I had no receipt/proof of purchase, etc . About 4 weeks later it returned from Nightforce looking like new (refurbished....not a new scope but hard to tell the difference) with a report saying they could find nothing wrong the scope (this is quite common apparently as Nightforce scopes are NEVER faulty). Once fitted and test fired, suddenly the outfit now shoots 1/2" groups at 100yds. Send it back to NF they will sort it for sure 👍👍 Regards, Rob.
  13. Confirmation e-mail from NGO this am.....good news common sense seems to have prevailed.
  14. Hi Chaz.... I have the Delta titanium you are considering. Personally I love it ! I've had lots of high end scopes inc PM2, which didn't really float my boat. I've had NF 8-32 which i found inferior (optically) to the Delta, however the main reason I love the Delta is it suits my eye and the reticle is fabulous (MCZ) with a tiny centre dot and really uncluttered. The illumination is excellent too with initially just the dot illuminating and then as you wind up the illumination, the stadia begin to illuminate....nice. If you were to consider an add-on IR it also works well with these as it has side parallax and focusses down to 10metres(ish). If you want to have a look though one you're welcome to head up this way for a look but I think Optics Warehouse do a 7 day return so you could buy without worry. I got mine from OW and had great service from them.........loved this scope that much I changed my PM2 for the 5-50 version and love that one too !! Regards, Rob. p.s if you want to talk about the scope pm me and i'll drop you my mobile no.
  15. Hi.....hadn't seen your reply on the thread about random visits until today and the thread seems to have wandered away from the original topic so thought id reply directly....hope that's ok ?

In reply to your question, its semantics really....if the police were acting on intelligence and intended to seize your firearms then there would almost certainly be further offences involved, most of which would have a power of entry, assault/threats to kill/breach of peace, etc......the list goes on. So if they were attending to seize your firearms they COULD be in possession of a warrant but almost certainly wouldn't be. I have done this myself many times over the years and never with a warrant...the process is too long winded and messy and their is always an alternative.

If however, you had not committed any offences but were deemed unsuitable to possess your firearms due to mental health issues or sobriety concerns, then this would almost always involve a warrant and would be a much more low key approach.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards, Rob.

  16. Hi Steve.....i've got some Redding 243AI dies if you're interested, they're as good as brand new, done next to nothing (under 150 reloads) as I just fell out of love with the calibre.

I've just moved house and have no internet yet....reading this in a local cafe while nicking their wifi !

If you're interested give me a call on 07976 618840 to discuss.

    Cheers, Rob.

  17. Hi Sam, Can't help with the Bergers, but my 6BR loves the 85grn Sierras ! I also use N135....31.0grns; very happy with the results. I'm pretty sure if you're in the 30-32grn range you'll find a happy place in there somewhere ! As always start low and work up. Regards, Rob.
  18. Hi Stephentri, If you're looking for an unbiased review of this scope then i'm probably the wrong person as i'm a Delta convert !! I've had the Titanium 4.5-30 for over a year and love it so muchI bought the 5-50 3 months ago on the back of it. I love it !! I personally like a fine reticle and the Delta has that and a superfine centre dot that illuminates with 11 stages of adjustment with "off" between each level which i like. Glass is very subjective, but to me Delta glass is better than Nightforce (i've had 2 NXS's) and almost on a par with S&B (i've had a PM2) and considerably cheaper than both. People ask how it compares to Sightron (similar price point)...i've never had one but looked through my mates and wouldn't thank you for one (just my opinion). Only downside as mentioned before is the slightly crap coin slots in the turrets but thats a small price to pay. As said before everyones eyes are different but for me I don't think you can buy any better at the price and without spending at least double. Hope that helps.....if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Regards, Rob.
