  1. Harris perfectly good and relatively cheap compared to Atlas etc. You can often get these secondhand on here. I use both .... the Harris is quickest to deploy if thats any issue whilst the Atlas has more positional options at a price and it needs to be 'loaded' to take up slack.
  2. Bottom line here is that Tiff is an example to us all in that he works his rocks off ....I cannot believe his energy and enthusiasm! Without his initiative we would all still be bored to death punching paper at Bisley etc. I see this thread as a means to help further improve things and that can come from both positive and negative comments as long as they are not just rants. Tiff is beyond criticism but I am sure he will take all views on board.
  3. Just my view but an ELR competition would seem to be at odds with the same time pressures as the PRL day.
  4. For me its a case of using what I have which is mainly 6mm or 6.5 (260 rem) definitely noting the previous comments re splash observation. I am not a big bloke so weigh IS an issue for me in terms of manoeuvrability in barricades etc rather than simple carry weight. When I add bags to an already heavy rig I struggle and as most positions are supported in some way I see weight as a disadvantage..... within sensible limits of course. If I could get a new and dedicated rig built it would be 6.5mm flavour, shortish (max 24") carbon barrel ex Josh (would need to check adequate ballistics at range), 139/140g bullet and a stock offering minimal snag surfaces.
  5. Yes but how many of us are really going to be able to afford to travel many hundreds of miles and / or pay very high range fees to use them on any sort of regular basus?
  6. Hmmmmmm.....the police couldn't get a 50 cal ban via a frontal assault so collude to remove ranges and 'good reason' to own?
  7. Just used my V3 trickler setup for the first time. WOW..... what a piece of kit! Great improvement in functionality over V2 and metered even relatively coarse stick IMR4350 perfectly. Expensive but worth it any day for speed and accuracy.
  8. Just my 10 pence worth but I need to feel confident in the quality and consistency of my reloading materials. The projectiles may or may not fly well anyway as Andrew has rightly stated BUT we are handloading in order to produce (usually) better and / or cheaper than factory. If the bullets are not quality controlled, the brass maybe not concentric or varying in weight / internal volume, the powder burn rate varying in a major way etc etc etc then I would find better suppliers with more focus on quality control. Its not hard to make quality handloads but we don't want shoddy raw materials from any source.
  9. The calibres mentioned will not cause recoil problems. Adding a moderator might be a good idea if recoil concerns you as it reduces the effect to a worthwhile degree.
  10. Not sure on factory ammo for those two.
  11. 223 will limit your range potential significantly (600 yards) .......the ammo will be cheapish. 6mm or 6.5mm will be far more versatile and good for 1000+...... ammo a bit more spendy. 600 yards may seem far out at present BUT once you have your drops sorted I assure you that you wll raise your eyes to the horizon!😀
  12. I found the Lee powder measure to be a huge weak link in an otherwise great setup. I hope my V3 upgrade will sort things.
  13. You use the click adjustable feature to FAR more easily and accurately set the degree of shoulder setback you require to set headspacing (typically resizing the brass to be shorter by about .001" at the datum point on the shoulder than its fired measurement.) With standard dies you have to unlock the lock ring, turn the die down a fraction then relock and see if the resize operation gives the desired headspace....a real ball-ache and sooo easy to overshoot and create excessive headspace. With the Whidden you do have to do the coarse setting in the same way BUT the fine and final setting is easily crept up on by turning the ring 1 click at a time which netts about a .001" change...... mine actually produces a half thou change per click.
  14. Yep....forstner bit and a drill = custom made blocks. I added a routed fancy edge and oiled the wood....included a central tray for tools in a 100 round block with leatherette liner. Completely over the top and bling but totally functional and cost damn-all.😆
  15. Block of wood , right size drill bit and 30 minutes effort.
  16. +1 for Whidden kit especially the click adjustable FLS.

The higher number G1 can be a marketing ploy...its a higher number so may be seen as 'better (by the uninformed) ' than the G7 value of a competitor bullet. Some may genuinely need to use the G1 in their ballistic app even though G7 is usually more relevant. The move towards custom drag models will gradually take root.
