  1. Cheers Gents few to get in with T
  2. Gents Having not been to Orion for a while have a question - what options do I have for accommodation locally that can be recommended? Thanks in advance Terry
  3. 1066 There are certainly a lot of conflicting theories out there. It seems to be split between old school Calfee and the upstarts like Vudoo who are challenging the norm ( and certainly seem to be getting good results ๐Ÿค”). Distances that 22rfs are shot, being stretched. To me going 100,200 and 300 seem sensible. When I see 500 and 1000 it feels like you a lobbing lead? Iโ€™m going to be trying 500 next week so will see how it goes or how others who do this regularly get on. Barrel length seems to hold mystique, โ€˜ ooo the bullet is slowing down etcโ€™. As you say target pistols had pretty short barrels , the GSP could not have been much more that 4โ€ and they shot very well, as did their 32 S&W. Twist and number of grooves is also in there. The accepted 1:16 has been there since BP days. Believe current BR records in US is held by a 2 groove but German target rifles are multi groove and shoot. Who knows ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ knew the sight rad. thing re bloop tubes, the tuning not thought too much about ( Purdey Rx??). Still air, well the tuner gives this. Air strippers , hum, interesting . Mr Egg, From crude measuring rim thickness on quality ammo does not seem to vary much but Iโ€™m going to play with measuring concentricity, seating depth ( as in consistent rifling engagement) and rim thickness in my quest. Good fun stuff. Terry
  4. 1066 interesting videos ๐Ÿค” Tuner plus a โ€˜bloop tubeโ€™. Was there not some discussion/ ideas re the bullet emerging into still air as being advantageous. Yes single tight group/one hole at 50 is the goal - consistently Terry
  5. Think the grouping is currently all down to me! Bit like my old school reports - 'could do better' My understanding re tuners and from previous experience with a Harrel's tuner is it made the barrel 'dead'. The groups at 25, 50 and 100 were better, more round, less 'odd one out' (that bugger that spoils a 5 shot group ๐Ÿ˜’). Also ammunition tolerance was improved, not saying totally different ammunition make/model, just similar ammunition. Now I've a Ezell particle damper on this rifle - going to start playing this Friday, will revert with results, we will see ๐Ÿ˜‰ T
  6. Started on the ammo testing at 50 yards. the rifle like Lapua/SK which is about right as the chamber's to Nevius's spec Biggest limitation will be me, holding consistently is going to be my first hurdle, keep pulling a shot. The New SK flat nose match was pretty good, did not like Tenex but my gut says I'd not shot enough to swap the different bullet lubes? All shot from the bench, rifle was as delivered from the Smith, tuner installed but wound right in. the 50 yards range might not be 'up' for sorting the tuner , think I'll use the local indoor 100yard as this will amplify differences?
  7. Wipe-Outโ€™s accelerator and Tac advantage before I leave the range, push thru when I get home , leave Ballistol in the gun. All applied with felts. Carbout now and then. Each rifleโ€™s different and requires and regime adjusted to suit. whatever your are happy with really. โ€˜Cleaningโ€™ came up at my club recently and I obtained a top F Class shooter and a known top PR shooter/gunsmith/instructors methods - you could not have found two diametrically opposite techniques ie there is no correct way ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚
  8. Duster, There are a lot of good products out there but the subject of how to clean a rifle is well up there with political and religious discussions!! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚. What issues are you seeing that makes you want to polish the bore? would be my first question. As an answer to bore 'polish', I've used Flitz, Iosso (with tiher dedicated blue nylon brushes) and JB bore paste (both flavours) for specific purposes. There is no reason to think the the KG product would be any better worse than any of these. Terry
  9. Was indeed good to get out and shoot Ewen, catch up with you and a few other folks, the 600yard F class pm was also very enjoyable. Believe that is your 22rf stick in the background.
  10. Had my first go at 22rf LR on Sunday. A 300 yards shoot (very well) organised by the GBFCA and sponsored by RUAG who made some rifles available and also supplied ammunition for folks to try in the form of R50, R100 etc. Very interesting for me, first time out with new stick I collected on Friday and came away with a few things: Great fun, will be doing it some more when opportunity arises. The wind is a bloody killer ๐Ÿ˜‰ ERATEC bases do what they say on the tin - put 40moa onto the base (which is a doddle to do) and it moved the poi by 41.75" and back to zero = good enough. I need to sort out shooting from a rear bag. I'm really rusty a reading the wind Forgot how bald I was until I saw this photo ๐Ÿ˜ง need to practice technique as to me 22rf 'seems' more difficult to shoot consistently? Thank you again to the GBFCA and RUAG
  11. OoTo2 Ive had my rifle cambered to suit Laura/SK so have a few of these in hand to get going with. Couple of rifke projects on the go so looking fwd to doing some faffing around ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  12. NiD Concur That is the starting point ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  13. ^this^ is I feel all part of it ๐Ÿ˜€ Looking forward to playing once I get my paws on my rifle.
  14. The concentricity gauge is for the munitions, the tuner is for the rifle, think they are mutually exclusive. Do not think normal CF concentricity gauges work well with 22rf ammunition, least not without a bit of faffing. The Nielsen is designed specifically for rf and as such is easy to process swiftly.
  15. Ad3 Tuner once setup should make the groups โ€˜rounderโ€™, least that has been my previous experience. Thank you re Neco, might try to sort one? Have you looked at concentricity gauging using something like the Nielsen tool? Having measured some reasonable quality ammo found a good few that were outliers. T
  16. Lee, What are you shooting to get 3400 mv with 108g - thatโ€™s no slouch ๐Ÿค” Iโ€™m using a 1:7.5 twist in a 6mm Dasher and with 105 Bergers that is a comfortable 2970 but you are โ€˜wayโ€™ past this configuration Good luck and I assume you have a spare barrel on hand ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚
  17. Ad3 Nice efforts re testing. Think the 22rf needs a bit more attention to deliver the best out of it. Be interesting to see your results at 100, if your initial findings follow thru ๐Ÿค” have you decided on what method to set up your tuner, just about to set up a new rifle a d tuner myself, have used the Purdey Rx previously but think the Hopewell looks more โ€˜solidโ€™? Can I ask where you obtained the the G3 rim to ogive tool? Good luck Terry
  18. Thank you for info, but to me H&K will be forever.............
  19. ...so a slightly cynical recap, the Army wanted (or had inflicted on them?) the need for a new rifle in 5.56. Had to be British so we designed the Mk.1 SA80 that did not work very well, so we employed the Germans (H&K) to fix it for more than the cost of buying all new Diemaco's that worked? Your tax ยฃยฃ working for you? ๐Ÿ˜‰
  20. looks like the barrel and gas system's not having a good day either!! ๐Ÿ˜ต
  21. Not aimed at you at all - just the potential (very specific) owner ๐Ÿ˜‰
  22. Having shot (but not owned) both I would go for the new AT-X , you can change the 'grip' bit of the stock for whatever you want. T
  23. .....oh I could be so flippant ๐Ÿ˜‰
  24. Al, I only tried a couple of primers as I'd used (after faffing around with other types) Fed LR Mag Match in both 300WM & 7mm SAUM previously with success and as the rifle performed well I did not do much more testing. I had experienced funny performance in my recent endeavours with Murom more recently so did not go for any of them, but i saying when they were sold under a different brand a while back they were good.
  25. Concur with JMH's comments, found Fed LR Magnum match worked. My load was also using RS80 and 230g Berger Hybrids, very consistent.
