My club ran a 100 yard target comp yesterday on a local range. Unlimited sighters and 5 x 10 round targets. Front rest allowed but no rear support ( butt in shoulder clear of ground/ bench. Not too much wind around but time limit put pressure on. Rifles was in all down to operator interference I’m afraid 😱

Could always use a concentricity gauge and sort your rounds as well 🤔😂

A simple gauge is a fired 223 case, pop the rf bullet into the case nose first and measure the loa. Tuners work and normally create a more round group, removes fliers in my experience. you can easy go down a rabbit hole with rf’s 😉

Would need to have confirmed by someone in writing but I believe it is 15 kg in total of loose & loaded powder and also includes allowances for primers. Thought I’d give the sub calibre conversion a try in my 45-70. Basically a 22rf tube with an offset chamber which aligns the CF firing pin with the rim of the 22rf. SK flat nose match what I had with me seemed to go well in the 22” insert barrel, better than I expected actually unfortunately I’d not put in any alternate foresight elements so the shoot-n-see target pretty much filled the foresight aperture which made things more fussy that you’d want. Fun all the same 😀

BBM, There are a few LR 22rf comps around, I attended a couple and was good fun and a bit of a challenge. furthest distance was 500 yards. Having your 22rf and CF configured the same makes sense especially if you are going to do any positional shooting e.g. the 'PR' shoots. 22rf top , 6mm Dasher below, 22rf has adjustable mount to go to the longer ranges I would not put 22rf as a 'trainer' as such, takes just as much effort to shoot them as well as the CF's - only advantage is its cheaper and there are more venues.

Gents you cannot compare a club with a commercial range. Clubs are normally run by officers who are volunteers ie no associated costs. Also costs, such as say buying a steel target for £109 are ‘at cost’ to the club where as a business would use a value of more than double this for the same item if they have a real business model. There is always a pool of folks with sufficient spare beer tokens to pay for things and commercial operations cater for this - just look at coffee shops and iPhones Good luck with any enterprise

Just beautiful Sir, Love the No.1 ( Farquhason -sp?) action and a very nice tasteful finish you have had done. Have you looked at the Hicks tuner, has worked on a couple for friends No.1's (also a simple preloaded shim fix works.) Concur with a 45-70 version being a neat idea? T

Cheers Gents, Had input that the F-TR rules state they cannot be more than 2" wider than the bipods max extended width and cannot have spicks etc. on the underside or rails/guides for the feet on the top side. Want to put 'something' on the underside, not sure what yet? .....watch this space. T

Folks, I see a few people sing a rectangular board which their bi-pod sits on. Basically short plank with carpet tile (or similar) on its top surface to give stable and consistent interface to the bi-pods feet. Can understand the principle - but my question is what, if anything, is on the underside of this board? Thanks in advance Terry

If power and general supplies are not swiftly restored then things will go down hill pretty quick - just look at the silliness re. bloody loo rolls. - Now have most shelves empty or access to accepted essentials = panic. Yes larger towns and cities will be 'interesting'

Gents, Have access to a LabRadar and would like to check some 22rf rounds , any tips on setting it up for such applications? Have the remote trigger that attaches to the rifle if that helps. thanks in advance Terry

PbG, If you want to delve into the World of 'cobblers' go look at the 22rf environment 😵 May years ago I used a NECO bore lapping kit which actually turned a standard Rem 700 barrel into something pretty good - but it required the barrel to be re-chambered and turned in a thread. This was relatively cheap as it was done in the US (lower costs and no proof etc) but not something I'd repeat. So concur, some anecdotal info out there but a good barrel is just that from the get go. T

Think this falls in with the ‘how do you clean your rifles?’ or any question starting ‘what’s the best…………..’ 😉😁 mirriad of approaches and dependent on the barrel ie factory or custom. Go with your Smiths recommendation. Hard to be fixed on rounds from new vs accuracy/ speed e.g. recently a UK shooter with around 30 rounds total down the barrel wins a 1 mile competition, so bugger all run in and load development in that scenario. T

Dellboy apparently the CED’s do not work well with air soft but the 3 in 1 shot timer made by Pie does have an airsoft setting

The practical guys at our club use the same CED unit Dave suggested, seems simple and reliable in an indoor (=not clean sound) environment. Gets well used twice a week by them with no issues .
