Interesting discussion along the lines of load development on stalking directory forum which has been contributed to by Geoffrey Kolbe (Borbal) whose provenance is exemplary worth a read alongside this discussion here https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/satterlee-load-development-thoughts-on-results.204775/page-5#post-1985779 -

Nice work Dave , have you a Deckel pantograph engraver - re the tuner / moderator I guess the moderator and adaptor will only work with a specific mod that is capable of accepting rear threaded in bushings and adaptor to accept the adjustment section and will add weight to an already heavy moderator design That’s a great deal if work given no intention to sell Whats the weight of your adaptor / adjuster -

Thinking aloud what about using the stick on wheel weights for balancing as a temporary and conveniently quick way to see if barrel harmonics can be affected with a larger diameter mod Not the most elegant solution but it would give an indication of what may or may not work -

I used a pair of NSX 32 power for several years on my rifles, then swapped to a 40 power March which I didnt find as accomodating to my eyes Personally, 32 x is enough for me -

Smile, move on, shoot again 😊 No one is perfect, wind is indeed a great leveller -
My example was for reloading for competition (F Class ) where any variable need to be reduced to nominal level The but behind the bolt being the limiting factor (in my case)

Single digit - low vertical dispersion at 1000 yd’s for example 1/4 MOA vertical dispersion would be, I suggest the baseline standard in zero wind conditions at that distance

Reduce ES Case prep All cases - flash hole de burred, primer pocket cut to uniform depth, case length cut to exactly same length, chamfered inside and outside neck Weigh all cases Batch them Use only those of same weight or within a few grains of each other Anneal case necks Tumble Seat primers exactly same depth Weigh powder to lowest possible variance with your scales (mine are .02g resolution) Wipe inside case neck with Sinclair wax (tiny amount) to provide consistent release assuming neck tension is correct with appropriate bushing Seat all bullets same depth (having measured shank length and sorted bullets to same length batches ) Repeat process above every time you reload Using the process above you should attain single digit ES - assuming your chronograph will accurately measure to that resolution Consistency is key to low ES

Thabks Martin I’ve sent you a message -
Not sure there is any merit in fluting a factory barrel Essentially spending doubly what the barrels worth on cosmetic upgrade Certainly worth considering for replacement barrel off the action though

Sako 591 Right hand action, rebarrelled with a Bartlein 1.8 twist, 24" stainless steel barrel, threaded M18 x 1mm with protective cap. Chambered 6.5mm Creedmoor Barrelled action and the floorplate of the magazine system has been ceracoated Matt Black Original Sako Varmint stock, which has been refurbished (re oiled), some marks commensurate with age and use which show in the images. Barrelled action has been pillar bedded with custom made recoil lug and devcon bedding compound. Images show stock with factory recoil pad, I have a Silvers Orange Pad on order, which will be fitted before sale and new sling swivels will be fitted too. Trigger has been cleaned and breaks at a safe 2.5 lbs. All work with the exception of Ceracoat has been carried out by me to my standards. Ceracoat applied by Liquid Steel Design This rifle will be a perfect dual use stalking / range gun for someone who appreciates the classic design and looks of the older Sako combined with a modern popular cartridge Price - £1700 including courier to an RFD in the UK or collect from myself

There is information there, Tuners work just as well in centerfire application ads they do rimfire. Many of the F Class shooters (myself included) use tuners EC Tuners (Eric Cortina- a top level USA team member for example have been in production and use for years) Simple design, fine ajustment Works -

Certainly a place for tuners They work and its surprising how incrementally small the ajustment is required to get a barrel to "group" well once a decent load is found, its relatively easy to make that smaller Ive made my own Tuners for my own rifles several times using simple fine thread and o rings designed in to prevent unwanted adjustment -
Cheers Peter , Dave always a pleasure to make you accurate and interesting rifles
