You're really not comparing apples with apples here, to be fair to the little HMR. I sold my first HMR, bought a 17H, and have since bought 2 more HMRs 😜 Shooting 50 rabbits a night at 50-150 yards with NV or thermal I still think the HMR is hard to beat. If you cant get that close, shoot in difficult conditions or regular whack foxes while shooting rabbits then fair enough, something with more ooomph makes sense. Tbh, I rarely use my 17H (usually a few times a year on corvids in summer), 204 comes out every time instead for fox, although I completely agree that the 17H flops gingas over no problem.

Not want you want to hear, but personally love the hmr for bunnies with nv or thermal, .22LR rarely leaves cabinet. Also have a 17H but purely for twatting bunnies out to 150 or so with NV/thermal, I find grabbing an hmr and a box of ammo from the cabinet and heading out suits me - I really couldn't be bothered loading a couple of hundred for the hornet every week for rabbits. I only take a small CF for rabbits if I'm shooting somewhere that foxes are also likely on the menu, otherwise its a rimmy every time - cheap as chips if youre whacking a couple of hundred+ rabbits a week. HMR is definitely marmite, yes theres been some dodgy ammo, but personally never had any issues. End of the day, we buy what we want, if you have a 17rem itch you need to scratch...

I have a UK Lab, never had any issues missing shots apart from with the 17H, 20cal or larger no problem. Not missed a 17H shot since using one of the recoil triggers available.

Different world, isn't it... Crazy the stuff you see with thermal you wouldn't have otherwise.

I used MedCert for my GP report for my renewal just before Xmas in TVP - 50 quid, job done. -
I imagine that would mount your NV VERY high, the EV mount is already high, add the adapters and NVs mounting rail and you'll need a foot tall cheek piece riser to get behind it.

This is one of the few picatinny rails for the 527 that doesnt have an ejection port cut out (which are usually in the way of most NV mounts) https://csw-online.co.uk/britannia-rails-cz-527-universal-reversible-extended-1021-p.asp Contessa also do one. Other than that its a case of using some kind of adapter/riser jobbie from Ant https://www.ant-supplies.uk/rails-and-adapters/ or similar

Assuming you're not going to use some fancy spitzer ammo if such a thing exists yet, what accuracy gains do you expect to see versus an over the counter b/a .22LR from say Anschutz? or is it the centre trainer aspect specially that you are buying it for?

Cheers chap. Also been using the A&D adaptor with V1/2/3 with no issues btw...

How long ago did you order out of interest? I think there was 9-10 week lead time before Xmas?

The same chap (username and location at least) with a low post count has been selling a couple of things on the NV forum recently including a used thermal which the buyer seems to have problems with. Would seem no answers/further comms/satisfaction forthcoming thus far regarding the issues, so I'd be very wary giving this chap any cash until that's settled... -
I wouldn't worry too much about comparing it to new stuff. Yes, things have improved but not to any earth shatteringly incredible degree. The HD50S will do what you want, the only real advantage of one of the cheaper new ones is a 3 year warranty. However the failure rate of Pulsar spotters I would guess is very low, they suffer from stuck shutters which can be DIY'd or fixed by TJs for a couple of hundred quid from recollection but apart from that you dont hear much about them falling over. Like a lot of electronic stuff, if it doesnt sh*t itself in its early days, chances are it will keep going for a long time. Price...bit tricky, old thermal holds its value well, would probably sell for £500+ still in 5 minutes.

Have updated listed. Chaz - have deleted stuff but was still getting messages from others. Im guessing you may have been after the 6.5 TMKs which have gone... David - sorry, thought I'd responded to you as I'd replied to a(nother) David about the torque wrench - apologies but its gone. I may have a Vortex one available however.

If its a bit of a case of another rifle for the sake of it then sure, fast twist .223 flinging 69s or heavier? Ackley perhaps. If less concerned with barrel life, stuff like 22BR, 22CM would probably be fun...

That ^^ keep the hornet and get a 6 or 6.5 for 600 yards

Pretty much as others have said, my experience (albeit in TVP) is that getting much over 250 allowance per calibre for centrefire ammo needs a very good argument if you're not target shooting. Two calibres with different good reasons should be no issues, I have 2x 6mm, 2x .17 and a .20 and .223 which are very similar, lightweight all day carry deer gun v heavy ambush setup, day optic v dedicated NV or thermal gun etc. 600 sounds reasonable for r/f ammo without a target condition too, I think I have 600 on mine, so I can buy a new brick before the previous runs out. As Bruce says, some FEOs just seem to be on a mission to take as many firearms from us as possible...others hand them out like sweets....be reasonable, follow HO guidance and seek assistance from a shooting body if necessary, I dont think you're asking for anything unreasonable. And yes, their insistence on using the word weapon really gets my goat, TVPs email autoresponse used to read "If you are notifying us of an acquisition or disposal of weapon/s please accept this email as an acknowledgement of receipt." - its firearms licensing, not weapons licensing! 🤬
