  1. There's a big difference in my book between someone walking round with a gun taking a few rabbits and the odd muntjac or pheasant for the pot, and industrial scale slaughter by the lowlife who simply enjoy killing and are willing to pay in order to do so, "legally" or otherwise. Rabbits, unlike mountain hares, are in the same league as grey squirrels, not a native species. Introduced during the Roman occupation, afaik. As for the mountain hares: Protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework. Pete
  2. Actually, I don't give a s**t what the acreage was, whether or not they carry ticks, or are destined to end up on some restaurant menu. I see a heap of dead hares, killed simply because they're presence was seen as an inconvenience to a money making enterprise. . The illegal killing of raptors on grouse moors is another example. Pete
  3. For "mint choc chip" read a colloquial expression for gonads.............. Pete
  4. Comparing the SNP to Marxists or nazis?? What utter mint choc chip............... Pete
  5. Bob + 1...........Mitutoyo are the benchmark calipers.................and I've also got an Aldi £9 Chinese special (Powerfix) which turns itself off after a set time if it's not used. Pete
  6. https://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/2017/07/31/mountain-hares-slaughtered-on-scottish-grouse-moors-new-report-published/ Sickening isn't the word for it...............and as for the constant whining, mostly from game shooters, that we should support each other.............good luck with that. Pete
  7. James8870, that weight of bullet in that calibre at that speed would have me twitching every time I pulled the trigger.................something ain't right, and I hope it's the chrony............ I just ran your load through QL using the standard COL etc, and it says 2754fps and Pmax 62920. 6.5x47 CIP spec is 63091 psi, so it's already hotter than I would ever consider. To get 2950fps, you're looking at 39.5 grains of Varget and a Pmax of 79899psi.............somewhere near proof pressure? I know QL has it's limitations, but even so............ Pete
  8. Is the big rabbit classed as vermin? Pete
  9. So are you saying this "rumour" implies that British proof marks don't necessarily mean that the gun has been proofed, ie tested, in the UK to the appropriate spec, and that the proof house just bang the marks on because it's a European manufactured gun and "they will have already done it" ? I find that VERY hard to believe............ Pete
  10. Lee for inside the neck (if you're using a button die....it doesn't affect the powder), and Imperial wax for the outside. Pete
  11. It's a chemical reaction, so no powder can be completely temperature stable...............some are reputedly better than others. When I know the forecast is for hot weather, I reduce the load slightly. The receiver will get hot and also affect the temperature of the round (brass is a good conductor of heat), so the time taken to chamber and fire will also play a part. Pete
  12. What Laurie said.........do not trust Quickload when using RS52. Always start at least 15% lower than suggested and look for pressure signs. Having said that, I've found it to be a brilliant powder for 308, 223, 6.5x47L, and 6BR, but a bit heavy on barrels. Pete
  13. There are bright circular wipe marks on the case heads that typically occur when the brass is extruding into the ejector hole, ie pressure on the high side................ Pete
  14. It may be a reflection in the photo, but there's a mark on the tip that looks as though it might be chipped, which could cause piercing. It would also be a good idea to measure the protrusion. Should be around 1.6mm. Pete
  15. Have a look at the firing pin tip with a magnifying glass.........if it's a smooth dome with no sharp protrusions, chances are you had a dud primer. The strikes actually look quite light from your photo's. Pete
  16. Well, OW will certainly do a refund/swap if you're not happy with anything, so why not ask?..................one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. Pete
  17. I have one of these https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/product/vortex-viper-6-5-20x50-pa-riflescope/ and they're excellent, and with a lifetime warranty. Pete
  18. I have a LW barrel on a 6BR.........this has been round the galaxy. I've no idea how many rounds it saw before I got it, and I've put at least 2500 through it. It started out at 34" on an RPA in 2007, then a few years later was re-cut to 30" and fitted to an old Musgrave target action before I bought it. According to my records, the COL has increased by less than 0.25mm. Says something about LW barrel steel, I guess.............but it coppers up badly, as do many button rifled barrels. Pete
  19. I recently sold my 308 which had around 1200 rounds through a Dolphined 11-twist Bartlein barrel using a stiff load of RS52, another high energy double base powder, with 155 Scenars at 3050fps.. It never needed de-coppering and there was no sign of firecracking, so barrel quality plays a part as well.................you gets what you pay for. Pete
  20. Elcho 17, Reloader 17, and RS60 are the same.......a high energy double base powder that'll produce insane velocities at the expense of throat wear................RS52 likewise. I get 3000fps out of a std 6BR with a 30" barrel and 105 Scenar's using RS60. It's very accurate, but the bore looks like it's crazy paved for the first 7 or 8 inches...............almost wish I'd never bought the Hawkeye. Pete
  21. That's my next project............I've had good results with RS50 /123 Sc's and excellent with RS52/136 Sc's so far. However, having seen what RS60 can do to a barrel in <1000 rounds, I'd rather use a single base/modest MV combo. If I can get 10 shots in to 1 moa at 600yds, I'm very very happy...........always assuming the electronics aren't telling porkies.............. Pete
  22. There's not a lot of loading data for this calibre, and I thought RS62 might be a bit slow for 115 grain DTAC's (HBN'd), but I was pleasantly surprised. The MV is modest, but should still be supersonic at 1000yds. This was the best result so far. The flags were stationary on Century, and the distance was 600yds, F-class scoring. MV measured with Labradar. My rifle is a CG-RPA 2000 with a 26" Bergara 8 twist barrel. Usual caveats apply...........this load might not be safe in your rifle. Anyone else tried this powder in 6x47? Pete
  23. I'm about to do it to a GRS hybrid laminate stock. Should be pretty straightforward. Measure carefully to find length required, decide what diameter you want, turn up pillars with a few grooves around the outside for the epoxy, drill hole in a piece of scrap plywood to check tightness of pillar. I plan to have it just tight enough to push in with my thumb. Then open up action screw holes, add a good smear of epoxy, push in until level and wipe off the excess. But, it all depends on how the Berserk is constructed..............I've seen a yank composite stock, (can't remember the make) where the outer skin is hard but the inner part is a softer less dense material, probably used to reduce the weight. This could be a problem when you drill out the action screw holes.............. Pete
