It was more a punt at being kept off of field firing ranges for no good reason.

Just seen a SKY report about a short-sighted soldier (who was not wearing his contact lenses) who shot and killed another soldier on the range thinking he was a target! Worrying about civilians capabilities and keeping us off of ranges seems a bit hypocritical. Apparently the culprit had previous been rejected because of badeuyesight but somehow got in.😏

I use N550 and N560 with 123g and 140g bullets....very happy with results to 100 yds and beyond. Maybe a tad less barrel life ...who can measure that? Just ease up on rapid shot strings or maybe try HBN coating.

Despite the fact that I teach reloading at a local gunshop I dread the day when this becomes a mandatory 'qualification'....... at cost no doubt! There are so many variables, opinions and methods that I can't see how it can be formularised to the extent of an exam.

Once fired from any factory ammo source is ok provided it is genuinely once fired and you specify the brand.

Reckon on about £1k in my experience. Barrel, chambering, screwcut and possibly cerakoted plus proof.

Even if some exemptions are made it still feels like an enforced and incremental retreat from current ammo will follow. The UK market already has poor ammo availability and if the market shrinks yet further how long will it be before suppliers and importers see it as non-viable? This is in addition to likely problems arising from rifling twist rates being inadequate to stabilise longer bullets. Is this lead 'problem' just another way to suffocate the sport by stealth? Nobody wants to knowingly pollute but stats and science are often 'adjusted' to suit a specific agenda.

I have always measured 'neck tension' by comparing a resized case before and after seating a bullet....ie 'neck expansion'. I note that Forster are introducing a multiple pin gauge tool to measure inside neck diameter and being a detail-freak it piqued my interest. However....I wonder about its engineering accuracy. Has anyone used certified accuracy pin gauges to measure neck I/D ? Your views on its utility? Where could I buy individual imperial pins vs sets? Your giews much appreciated.

Pops....agreed that you would expect the rail to be fully compensated for the action dimensions. It was supposed to be Remmy specific......it clearly wasn't even though the fit looked ok. Thanks for the diagrams. At least I know that I uncovered the issue correctly!😀

Just trying to make sure I have not misled myself! I believe from having measured my sons Rem 700 action that the front of the action is higher than the rear. So....if I install a 20 moa base am I really getting 20 moa lift at the rear because the rail should be sized at the rear to account for the front to back action height difference PLUS 20MOA or am I simply compensating in part for the action height range. I ask this because I bought the rifle for my son some years back but didn't seem to have the scope elevation range that I would have expected and had to buy an incline 1 piece mount with additional moa built in to get what I expected. I cured the problem but the basic actionand rail issue has always nagged at me! Yes...I did fit the main rail the right way around!😁

Vortex and Shield both do very small red dots. If you can mount them on top of scope and still see over your elevation turret then I think its better than off at 45 degrees.
