Precision Rifle World Championships
terryh replied to LONG RANGE CAPT's topic in Tactical Competition
Tim, This is not me ‘back stabbing’ at all. It is the fact that a couple of people, who have limited international experience and a bit of UK, have created their own ‘GB’ Governing body which is now saying others have to be approved by them to be eligible to shoot. IMHO this is fundamentally wrong, I acknowledge your view and comment but this is a public shooting forum. If you have a link to the GBPRA’s board or organisers, its statements of objectives could you post this please as I can find nothing, which is strange for a national organisation - now this ‘is’ me being cynical As you know me I hope you can see my point and I’m not a troll 🤔 -

So you have to be ‘approved’ by a self appointed governing body before you can be considered as acceptable 🤭🤔 yup, that’d certainly put a burr under the odd saddle 😉 -

Be good to see anything ‘take off’ but it does seem to have the air of grandiose about it 😉 Lot of Rule’s but I could not see a basic statement of what the aim of the sport was - an executive summary if you want, but might have missed it? As others have said ‘who’ sorts any UK entrance out? Not sure the recent fuss associated with this type of shooting sport in the UK will be easy to get over (unfortunately 😕) so would need to be completely impartial. It would be a shame if they miss the opportunity to make it all a bit more ‘skill’’ orientated as opposed to ( and pointed out) 20 + pound rifles with a further 10-15 pounds of added bags/weight and then tripod. Just dam silly way to go about a sport that’s supposed to be more mobile and adaptable, but that’s just me. Yup, Satterlee’s in there but he’s only been involved in this sport ‘post gaming’ era so has missed the more fun side of things. Anything with sponsorship is buggered. You no longer have a level playing field and people have to game it as they need to keep their sponsors happy. Only time will tell how it all pans out 🤷🏼♂️ -

Mr Huevos, I’ll play BPCR in 45-70 using cannula ‘greasers, 100m group if I‘m having a good day But now playing with paper patch, possibly going to breach seating 🤔 -
Keep looking at the Westlake, (nice groups there Allan to the point of ‘GSP’esque’). I’d not be interested in any pistol that did not shoot well, have looked at the competition grade Reminington cap-n-ball ( Pedersoli, Pietta) as the FWB is no longer with us, but not sure I can be arsed with BP in a revolver - which gets you back to the Westlake. Casting is not an issue, already make pretty good bullets for BPCR’s , not sure if I’m daft, but find it quite therapeutic . Food for thought

Knew 'of' Mr Westlake - did 'not know' he was local 😎

BD so you’re developing’ a version of the Hicks tuner/ Freelend forend (of 52E fame)/ ‘SmartStock’ system I.e.applying strategic pressure 😉😁 - can I do an online version of the (small cough) and refer to my earlier post 😘 -
Allan, bit off OP but like the look of the .32 Patriot , some more info please at some point - harmonica fed 32 ML 🤔??

Dave, nice pistil, keep posting things like that and I will have to come over and shoot. Looks good quality and thought out. Just wish they’d not put ‘Costa’ in the name - after that Japanese airsoft thing I cannot see ‘ Costa’ without flashback to the video 🤔😂

Private FB group so no access unless you are a fan boy 😉😂

.....dang you beat me to it 😉😂 or to use a slant on the current narrative ‘feelings over truth’ perhaps 🤐

😂😂 Actually as an engineer I thought the barrel length should be ‘horizontal’ as that’s how I shoot and also how I’d hacksaw it down in size 😉 -

Allan, I'm seeing locally more interest in 22rf for a few reasons, personally it is a bit of a challenge (couple of other shooting buddies also jave this view). As to the smaller groups at longer ranges. I hate to point to the US but here is a listing of 6 x 5 shot groups https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/6x5-thread-v5-0-new-1-1-21.6253073/ Also here's some of BD's linked data graphically: -

Interesting data - if I had the patience I'd drop it onto a graph 😉 Personally I'd ignore the Stinger and other HV ammunition and focus on the SK standard, Midas and Tenex .which on the face of it go (nominally) slow-fast-slow in the process from 24" down to 17". Shame the grouping was not carried out at the shorter lengths - but this is a person and probably got a bit choffed off in the chop and shoot process? 😄 There is some other interesting work being carried out, primarily by the Vudoo folks re. fast twist and barrel length in the strive for long range accuracy from 22rf's -

PbG, Your stray shot after a reasonable duration (put away and taken out) with 22rf is something I've seen/experienced. Mine is actually low 1st shot(from memory) Is it that the wax lube 'sets off' ? Also, when trying the new plastic coated stuff from CCI the first shot post normal wax ammo is low, the next about half way between the 1st and where I'm aiming and the third on the money - but not the other way i.e. wax directly after plastic. -

Been playing with QL to mirror some of the various data in this thread i.e. Case capacity 3.3 Dummy cartridge configured as 22 hornet and modified Lyman lead bullet 40g Fast powder, Unique, adjusted to give the muzzle velocities vs barrel lengths quoted. Thus starting with the 16.25" barrel and MV of 1016 etc.: BD as to the horses vs zebras, I'm open to possibilities, what I have learnt is something might be right/good/real others need to be viewed with a slight jaundiced eye, the 'if it was good that's how all guns would be made' - non sequitur, we know bedding and a good trigger is effective in improving things - but not all rifles have them because like everything improvements come with a price 😉 -

PbG - it does have a BBC B computer feel to it 😉 but pretty straight fwd to use and overall a pretty good tool. Will have a play with all this information sometime today between bloody Teams meetings. Going off OP but throwing in a few other things to discuss or exchange thoughts on, we are focussing on harmonics and (possible) the tools to adjust but where do the other metrics associated with 22rf fit into all this, can we just look at one thing? You have bloop tubes (still air or just sight radius?), clamped barrels with cone breaches to allow you to rotate the barrel to find a sweet spot, mechanical barrel pre stress (e.g. the Freeland stock for a 52E), twist rate (standard 1:16 dates from the horse and buggy era), number of grooves (think current BR record holder used a 2 groove after experimenting) or just plain old bedding (free float, part and full barrel). -

....and you tune the barrel length to the MV to find the next batch you buy has a different MV 😨 it must be adjustable IMHO If you are looking at a bulge wave (sort of reverse peristalsis if you like) could you put a clamp on the barrel (like a scope ring design item) that messes with the bulge wave, a tuner for longitudinal waves as opposed to the barrel end tuner trying the mess with the sinusoidal waves? ....gosh we are out into the bleachers now 😯 T -
Apologies - missed your post. Having to use Parcel force sort of knackers it then, 😔 cheers anyway T

Allen. Agree on ringing barrels ref your talc method, this is how you sort out the location for the front rest on a BPCR (sacrilege- 'you rest the barrel' 😉 ). As to what's doing what? - lot of ideas and things to consider, think the relatively slow barrel time for 22rf does play into this, few high speed videos on the InterWeb of rifles being fired and the bullet 'appears to be out of the barrel before the barrel moves. You see the dogma re. 22rf barrel length 'what's the point beyond X" all the powders burnt' etc. but from reading the things folks are pushing re. accuracy and longer range with 22rf's then this plus the age old 1:16" twist (or there abouts) is falling down. That tuners do something and improve accuracy - been shown for rf a good while. Will try some large section O seals on the dead spot when I'm playing with the new rifle. T -

Hi Allen, Currently leaning towards this approach, pointless Trying to drag the last few ‘mm’ out of the rifle using a tuner if the foundation’s are iffy. I actually find shooting a 22rf consistently quite a challenge - well it feels that way 😉. Just sorting a new 22rf rifle which will wear a (particle) tuner and plan on a decent amount of time in a local 100m indoor range testing ammunition (when things arrive and open, respectively ). Looking at the LR 22rf comes as a challenge if I can get my poo in one sock so sorting all the detail is a prerequisite 😂 -
Gents, just been looking at the post office regulations re shipping (non firearms related) and came across this , as in it appears you ‘can’ post section 1 firearms: https://business.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/867 Brgds T

This has been my approach in the past. Find the ammunition your rifle likes then adjust with the tuner. Never played with CF tuners. thing that I’ve had in the back of my mind re 22rf is do you find the ammunition without the tuner on then add tuner or have it present from the get go but do not do any adjusting?
