Next seasons BAR-15

Recommended Posts

So, I have been planning this for weeks and it has actually taken days to get it altogether.

With the current ongoing eye problem, the offset scope works, however the windage offset seems to get greater the further you go back, and that is just one more thing too much to think about.
So with some trepidation, I have decided to switch to being a left handed shooter!
I realise I may crash and burn, but I also might actually learn to adapt and hopefully become proficient, although I am in no doubt it will take some time.
This coupled with a new lathe and mill, and the recent acquisition of a dividing/rotary head has led me down the path of learning to flute.
After an initial practise on an old barrel the other day, the following creation has been born.
This is a 20" Sassen Eng (formerly Border) 1:8 Hbar profile, fluted as per the AMU SDM rifles with 12 flutes amidships, although I have added the extra fluting at the front for a few more grams weigh saving, as well as the bling factor.
The upper receiver is a Larue Stealth billet slotted down the left and one of my older handles fitted as a placeholder until the new ones eventually get done.
No sense in waiting, I have to get out practising asap
Handguard in a Centurion Arms CMR 14.
Other stuff....Geissele Hi Speed NM trigger, UBR & Doofer®
Scope is a Leupold Mk6 1-6, mount is an American Defense Recon X 34mm
I'm very pleased overall with my workmanship and as Supermatch and Ultramatch have already been taken, I therefore name this rifle the GucciMatch®

Very nice old friend. Knowing how you've struggled with your eyes , I wish you the best of luck swapping over from right to left.

I have the same problem. I am naturally right handed but have to shoot left handed because of my bad right eye. It will take a while to get used to it but it will work. I have been shooting this way for a long time and I don't think I could go back to shooting right handed in fairness. The best of luck with your new rifle.

I went the other way. I'm a leftie but when I started shooting I realised my left eye is worthless so I've had to learn to shoot right handed. I'd imagine starting from scratch like I did is easier than changing years of muscle memory but it can be done if you're determined enough. Good luck to you.

Nice rifle and workmanship.

I'm sure you will be fine shooting left handed. My brother, an ex PWRR sniper has lost partial vision in his right eye so has been forced to learn to shoot left handed and he's doing just fine now.

Mark,

That's is a very nice looking rifle - sufficient detail, 'Gucci' is actiually a cruel inference :)

I like what you have done and it looks good.

Can I ask what does the fluting achieve other than aesthetic improvements.

The gun looks good but does the fluting assist in keeping the barrel cool,

increased surface area and all that.

It does look good though, happy shooting.

It saved a bit of weight while maintaining a larger diameter

I did it myself. Not many can say that.

I don't know of any other AR15 with similar fluting, therefore it's a first.

It looks as cool as f**k

Are there any other benefits?

Dunno, but it looks as cool as f**k and I did it myself <_<

Definite looks the part. What sort of dividing head did you use?
