  1. Use heat to apply the Hoptic - seems to make the adhesive ,,, more adhesive 😂
  2. ATX 13 lb bare - so just about the same as AT and AX
  3. Richie - it does - will look at your suggestions apologies haven’t meant to derail the thread
  4. I’m afraid it is - age got the better of me 😂 I tried shooting with glasses on the last match of SIS last year and whilst it was fine for some positions, I was losing the line of sight through glasses on some positional change stages and losing sight (literally) through the scope and lost quite a few points because of that (coukdnt align glasses scope and eye so didn’t send down range ) I can see distance perfectly well without visual aid to aquire the location of target and since that “learning day” - I decided to stick with unaided vision through scope and bino. But use the MK fresnel screen for ajustment of elevation windage I can manage as once set unless it’s extreme distance changes to targets in a multi target stage I should be able to manage with minor ajustment I doubt there’s anywhere I’ll be shooting in the UK that will involve a 180 degree fire angle change so usual alterations will be in tenths not whole mils
  5. Final alterations (almost) to my ATX which has been a work in progress for minor upgrades 6XC -Sassen 7 twist Chassis re coated burned bronze ceracoat Hoptic quiver and cheek saddle MDT straight grip EC Tuner Brake still would like a hinge and short bridge section but other commitments to finances dictate they can wait
  6. Tony - super effort attending the Leupold Match - would you like to post a report with pics about your experience in the competition area Would be good to hear how it went
  7. Match dates till summer on the first post
  8. Order direct from source the covers are good and not that expensive when you consider they’re protecting 3 k value of scope Recent podcast from Everyday Sniper suggests they are about to release an upgraded version https://www.scopechaps.com
  9. Thinking aloud - has anyone shooting 22 RF at ELR ranges (200 plus for example) found any benefit to having a faster twist barrel - the theory being a faster revolution at the muzzle would , over the time the bullet travelled have a higher maintained gyroscopic revolution at the target - maintaining greater stability than a traditional twist rate ?
  10. If I recall correctly the gun Laurie used was built around a tube chassis ( in cherry red ??) and was used to very good effect for a number of seasons
  11. I’ll arrange a template with all the providers who respond dates on it for all to see
  12. Some interesting reading from a very old web page created by Varmint Al - who is a very knowledgable guy with (when he did the testing) access to very high end government equipment Thrre is quite a bit to look at with various pages dedicated to rifle accuracy, effect of stress and harmonics on barrels and actions Well worth taking time to read his pages Created in the 1990’s by the way http://www.varmintal.com/amode.htm http://www.varmintal.com/atune.htm http://www.varmintal.com/alite.htm Some interesting work done on the effect of polished chambers too - and the effect of stages of polishing on case head separation (without derailing this thread ) I was reminded of his web pages after listening to a pod cast recently released on MDS with Aaron Hipp https://www.podbean.com/ea/pb-cfyry-13551cd Thought all the above would provide further information towards this thread
  13. .473 bolt face (standard non magnum) Action may need the bolt stop changing if it is originally a short action donor and mag changed to
  14. If your buying factory ammo then you are more likely to find PRC on the shelves than 6.5-284 I used 6.5-284 extensively (4 barrels worth) for a number of years looking after deer on my own areas and some regular clearance work which involved high intensity “cycles” both near and far ill add that I have been using copper bullets since they were first available (GS customs) in that particular rifle The 6.5-284 excelled at this work - despite long action and BDL magazine there was no issue with multiple kills You do need to reload it though PRC is the current marketing darling in 6.5, 7 and 30 cal I’d choose inherent accuracy over marketing pressure every time

  16. Just a useful skill set that shouldn’t be overlooked UKD stages are fun and enhance performance of shooter focussing the fundamentals
  17. You do not need a long walk and shoot Targets set in defined area that have to be acquired - all could be achieved in an area like Gardners, WMS : Orion or I guess the place in South Wales
  18. I wasn’t necessarily looking at the NRL hunter class rules My thoughts would be carry what you’ve brought between stages and each stage is blind with a reasonable time constraint - with natural obstacle to test problem solving to get the shots off Targets in a set area to locate, range and shoot in that time makes for more interesting c o f It doesn’t have to be weight restricted for class You Coukd impose mandatory mag changes at three rounds to avoid those with large capacity an advantage - there could also be mandatory position change after x y Z rounds on target too Im trying to make it appealing to more shooters and grow the entire sport - not one particular facet or group The content of my posts are not criticising any group either, it’s trying to develop and grow from what we have now
  19. Many people who are interested in shooting steel in comps are put off by the necessity (or perceived necessity) to have high end kit (heavy race gun and bags) Trigger control, wind calls, building position is something that’s done by everyone who’s using a rifle at any distance (they are absolutely necessary fundamentals ) Not many are interested in achieving a high score or winning - they would (like myself) rather compete and have fun whilst doing so without being pressured Spotter calls - should be two spotters per stage whos decision is final and whom should not be approached or barracked into calling something that didn’t happen 👍🏻 Have to say that this is the most discussion into steel plate comps on any forum or social media platform (UK) for many months Refreshing to see
  20. I proposed this a couple of years ago (within this forum) and approached the match providers then for dates of events The only one to respond at that time was SIS…
