  1. I think you've answered your own question in that SFP is the way to go ..... Ideally you need to be able to hold around the 'V' at 40x ish at 1000 yards. and whilst I can't say you won't be able to do that I feel it's very unlikely . S&B's website should give you the dot size but I remember a friends IOR Crusader which has a fine FFP ret centre dot and that covered about 4 inches at 1000 yards .... so too big ! OSOK
  2. When I had the PPC I was using 68g Barts with 29.5g of N133 and a BR4 primer . This gave me around 3,370 ft/sec .... Not a great help if your shooting 58's but a guide at least . OSOK
  3. Elevensix .... I haven't as yet . I stopped giving it headspace due to the simple problems like where to load develope or even zero the thing . I have had good consistant results with the 7mm Norma past 3,100 yards but as always shooting on ground where you can see the strikes is the main problem . I have two rifles with 338 bolt faces so I have options on the go as we speak ..... a 300 Lapua Mag to shoot either the 245g or 250g bullets & a 33 xc to shoot the 300g plus.... from 34 inch barrels . What I've found to date this isn't just about BC's but more Importantly sending the biggest lump of bullet and giving you the best chance of seeing it hit the floor . OSOK
  4. The problem is that there are too many condition variables to have a one Jacket that does it all as the Jacket will provide a perfect solution to a certain condition and then uncomfortable solutions to the others ... You need to layer with a system that suits your body so keeping warm air in when it's cold and have the ability to dump warm air when needed . Your layers need to deal with external conditions and then the Internal ones created by your activity rate . For example ; Merino wool base layer ............ Smartwool or Arcteryx Rho etc Mid layer ......... Fleece or ultra light down or Light synthetic ........ Mountain Equipment Concordia or Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer or Acteryx Atom LT etc ..... If down then Ultra light with min 800 fill Light weight wind layer ........ Arcteryx Squamish or Paramo Bentu etc Hard Shell for rain .......... Arcteryx Alpha LT or SV or any other Gortex Pro shell ...... Bigger size to allow for the layers Soft Shell ...... Something to wear Instead of the Mid layers when the weather is calm dry and normal .......... Mountain Equipment Vulcan or Arcteryx Gamma LT or MX etc For standing around in extreme cold then another layer of either Synthetic or Down ..........Arcteryx Dually or ME Lightline ...... So many more I use a 30L pack that I throw in the car or truck whenever i go out that will cover me in whatever conditions i encounter . This sound a lot but there are a lot of conditions The above is just my choice but you dont need to spend this amount for it to work well however you will make mistakes until you get what suits your exact needs .... Remember this is just the top half !!!😄 Just my opinion OSOK
  5. Nick , Your right ...... The real question is what you are Intending to use it for ? I went down the route of a fast 6.5 as an alternative for F Class many years ago and went with a 6.5 wsm which just didn't work as to get the 6.5 bullets on par with a slowish 7 the velocities made the barrel hot after five or six shots . I have often said that the best 6.5 calibre is a 7mm ! I'm guessing that in the last 10 or 12 years the 6.5 bullets have come on but then so have the 7's . I think that the wetherby case looks good from what very little I've seen and would do well if you were not running shot after shot but I really can't ever see it beating a 284 in wind drift or barrel wear . Just my opinion Greg
  6. If you get the option from the US ... Do it as mine hasn't missed a beat from 8g pellets to 250g bullets . Just be extra gentle where the power lead goes in as it's just thin steel housed in plastic and I heard a warning of this working loose but I don't know of any cases ? OSOK
  7. Nick , You can drive the 6.5x284mm at that speed .... Maybe just past it's sweet spot of 2,950 ish but still a good speed . If your wanting more speed then my 6.5 WSM pushed the 140's out around 3,400 ft/sec but it's bolt face is bigger . Another thought would be to switch to a 7mm bullet on the 284mm case . OSOK
  8. If you get the chance ..... Buy the full fat version from the US OSOK
  9. I always used 42x ...... The Important thing I found was whatever power you use ... Don't change it during the detail for anything ! OSOK
  10. Guy's , Is the resolution / Spec better than my XP50 even though they are both 640 units ? Would it be a good option for a spotter as my 2.5x is perfect and I wouldn't want to go any bigger for spotting but would when rifle mounted 🙈 OSOK
  11. ds1 , I agree ... Elevation was king to me until I went down the Ivey route ... Never got hung up on which had the best glass as everything I shot using an Atacr or IOR..... I'm convinced I could have done the same with the swfa . If glass is some peoples first requirement then to my eyes the only scope I've used that is on a par with the IOR would be a competition Nightforce with the Atacr edging the S&B.. BUT we all have different eyes . I only ever comment on gear I've owned or do own as anything else is hearsay or best guess . Popsbengo , I don't get defensive over scope choice that's just a persons preference but trashing a brand when you don't own one and never have sticks in my throat . I had an 8-32 NXS many years ago and it had tracking Issues but I sent it back and Nightforce and they fixed the problem ... Does that make a scope brand poor , does it hell ... these things happen . If Steelcore hadn't sent me a PM2 I would never buy one as it doesn't tick the boxes I need in a scope ( 62 moa from a 34mm tube is really poor ) even though I have to use them but that doesn't make it a poor scope.... just not my first choice . I have to disagree with you on opinions ... An opinion is worth more to me if it's from someone who's had one and used it . OSOK
  12. Being a Chump is making out that your opinion needs to be heard and trashing a brand of scope having never owned one ! 1/2 mile range WOW ....... I bet that puts the scopes through hell .... all 15 to 20 moa's worth ? As for defending my purchase ... I have two IOR's , two NXS's , two MK4's , one PM2 and a swfa and none of them have any tracking Issues . Tall target tests using almost 60 moa and and yes all have different moa values but all track back . Both IOR's and a MK4 have been flawless out past 2,000 yards Infact the one IOR was past 3,100 yards . Even the little swfa on a 22lr has done 560 yards with 125 moa and returned to a perfect zero . Too many keyboard warriors giving their opinions on stuff they've never owned and know f*ck all about ! Oh.... IMHO OSOK
  13. You don't own any ............ My friends brother's cousin's next door neighbor looked through one at a game fair and he said they were rubbish too ! OSOK
  14. Marine PMI , Which IOR scope did you own that had problems with the tracking ? OSOK
  15. I ran a 20BR with 50g Bergers for several years and used 32.5g of N550 and a Fed 205m which gave me approx 3,700 ft/sec OSOK
  16. Spare scope which has seen very little use ... Just sat in the safe so may as well be sold . Condition of both glass and body is excellent ...... comes with sunshade , box and everything that was in the box from new ... It has 0.25 moa adjustments & 20 moa per turn turrets . There is NO zero stop . I can send pictures to anyone that is Interested . £1,000 Inc p&p OSOK
  17. First or Second Focal is just a preference and carries no bearing on shooting these distances ..... Pick a scope that suits you and has a good range in Elevation AND Windage as at extreme range you will eat up Windage and people just seem to focus on elevation . The other Item is how to get back the loss of elevation that you'll have in getting a hundred yard zero which is approx 40-45% so a 20 moa rail won't work alone without 20 moa mounts as well working on a 100 moa scope give or take . OSOK
  18. Lee , If you download the Hawke App you can get drops for any of their ret's while being able to change the velocities and conditions etc ..... This would be more accurate than going off fixed drops which can't be right all year round ! Greg
  19. Using Eley Match at 1,080 ish .... Lapua Midas works well but 30 ft/sec down on the Eley which again adds up . Greg
  20. No , I bought the 6-24x56 IR with the SR Pro reticle which was very nice but then I had the desire to shoot out past 400 yards plus with subs as a bit of fun and the 62 moa just didn't cut it .... Hence it being up for sale on UKV . I'm using approx 102 moa to get to 500 yards on a fixed power SWFA 10x42 Greg
