  1. Oh oh, something else new to learn eh?
  2. I've settled with RS62 under 140 grain Nosler RDF's, in Hornady brass and using Federal Match primers. I'm getting a very consistent 2800 fps out of a 26'' 1:8 barrel (Savage Mod 12 LRP) This combination let me print a rapid 3 shot group of 68mm at 800 yards in a 'lot less' than ideal conditions during the autumn of last year. As a note. I don't think Nosler RDF's have really taken off over here as far as I know, due to people writing articles saying they can't get them to shoot well, but I found that by taking the time to load develop properly they'll really pay off.
  3. I'm just saying, thats all. But then so are the activities I mentioned, included peoples addiction to travel, like my niece who just 'had' to go to Austria a couple of weeks ago for the 'Skiing season' no less!
  4. I don't recall asking for a rebate, and thankfully I'm not in the position to need one, but i do know a number of shooters who are retired and living on meager pensions, shooting is one of the few things they have (had) and don't all run 'F class rigs'. As for TV licencing, thats also optional - if you choose to not watch live stream broadcasting, and these days who would? (sorry, just heard the tv tax is going up again!)
  5. You mean like football, Rugby, standing in line to get on planes?
  6. Sorry to jump in a bit late on this one but how about this for an idea. Have one rifle - two barrels! I've got a 'Gemini chassis (single shot) which is rigged for a Target rifle - A Paramount action with a .308 Border barrel 1:12 for 155 grain bullets, aperture sights blah blah. But, I also have a heavy Bartlein .284 barrel in 1:8 for it for F class. I just strap a scope onto the fitted rail and hey presto, a pretty decent F class rig, and all it takes is about 5 mins to swap the barrels over. Muscle memory is just the same as it's the same trigger & stock.
  7. I wonder if we'll get a discount on our NRA membership subs next time round. After all, last year we lost about 60% of range access - who knows about this year eh? I don't want to knock the NRA, but it's daft having to pay for something you don't (can't) use. A bit like paying the TV tax - but not watching BBC.
  8. Dragging up an old topic here. but roll it forward to Sept 2020, this rifle was taken up to Orion in Wales. It was my first trip there and is, shall we say, a bit 'different' to Bisley. The wind was blowing full value at about 25 mph, it was a bit wet and misty, sheep and pheasants everywhere and it put a rapid fire, 3 round group of 68 mm onto a steel plate at 800 yards. Never let anyone say the 6.5 CM isn't a good round - if you're prepared to spend time 'fettling it'.
  9. I spotted their last auction on 3rd Dec and was able to go up there to collect some dies I'd won. A very interesting collection of lots and worth keeping an eye on. The Barnard actioned target rifle mentioned - with a Gemini stock and Tracker sights (with a Bartlein barrel?) initially had a guide price of around £1k - £1.5k and eventually hit around £3k, but then is included again in the next auction in Feb I believe.
  10. Part two. Arthur Daley - Anything 'Winchester' Gordon Sumner - .218 Bee (think about it). And from the world of sport. Mike Tyson - 7.62 Thumper Usain Bolt - .220 Swift Finally, Diego Maradonna - .22 Cheetah
  11. Flipping typical. I've just bought an annealer, and now this one pops up! Anyway, any chance you can tell me where you got the 'articulating arms' from? Cheers and good luck with the sale!
  12. Right, I'm in for this. Some very obscure, and real, cartridges here, but I think they work. Ronnie Corbett - .25 short Brian Blessed - .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer Joanna Lumley - .246 Purdey David Niven - .303 British Sean Bean - .50 - 90 Sharps Kenneth Moore - .22 Spitfire Terry-Thomas - .350 Legend Leonard Rossiter - .350 Rigby And lastly, Noel Coward - .55 Boys More to come I think😏
  13. Just came across this thread and youtube clip. this is something I used to practice with a .22 rf outdoors at 50 yds and it did make a hell of a difference.
  14. Hello. I'd like to order one of these annealers too. I'm using .223 Rem, .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor and .284 Win (how many plates will I need? Also, can these machines be hooked up to run off a big bottle of gas? Please PM me with total price please. Many thanks.
  15. A .223 will be a good rifle out to 600 yds - but you'd better be pretty good a reading the wind! You'll need a fast twist (1:8 at least) to push the heavier, more efficient bullets 75 grn+.Beyond 600 yds, well, take your chances. .308 would be better, with a long 1:12 / 1:10 barrel that'll get you out to 1200 yds - with a decent 'Match' type barrel. (I believe .30 cal bullets go transonic at around about the 1,000 yds mark? Unless they're pushed pretty hard.) The 6.5 Creedmoor is better again in my opinion. Flatter shooting than a .308, stays supersonic further than a .308, less recoil than a .308, less affected by wind etc etc. In my experience, when hand loading with good, low drag bullets (in my case, Nosler 140 grain RDF's @ 2800 fps) I was surprised at how accurate a round this is. These are purely my own opinions, based on experience in having rifles in all 3 calibers, and they all have their place. You decide.
  16. We don't need Trump to sell us any crap food, we already do o.k. with it as it is. Have you walked up any high street in the last 20+ years?
  17. A very good caliber. I bought one a couple of years ago (Savage Mod12 LRP, heavy 26'' fluted barrel 1:8 twist) and put it in a MDT ESS chassis. I worked up some rounds for it and settled on Nosler RDF 140grn bullets over RS62 powder in Hornady brass, putting out 2800 fps - shoots like a dream. I recently came back from Orion firearms training in mid Wales where it printed a 'rapid fire' 3 round group of 68mm at 800 yards - with a 25 mph full value wind. Personally, I'd say get one!
  18. Bloody good scope. If I were in need of another one I'd certainly have it!! Good luck.
  19. I'd also like to give a thumbs up to Jacks work. I rocked up at his workshop a few months ago to get a barrel threaded and a brake fitted which was done while I went for a stroll, and then got a jump start for my car afterwards! Can't say fairer than that.
  20. I've been looking for a reasonable Cosine indicator to put on a 34 mm scope tube / or attach to the rail. The only ones I see are either cheap Chinese poop, and I don't want to put any of my money towards the CCP, or they are a couple of hundred quid + for one made by high end manufacturers. I don't buy cheap, but neither do I want to fork out £££'s for something I'll only use a couple of times at most - especially for something that not exactly hi-tec, as its only a small pendulum when you come right down to it. Any suggestions? Cheers all.
  21. I concur. I used to put .22 CCI 'Quiet" through mine (@740 fps) and with a SAK moddy it was deathly silent, but accurate. I could put 10 shots through a 10p piece circle at 45 yds. Then I sold it...Doh!
  22. I too bought one of thos 5-50 Strykers. Bloody good bit of kit I reckon.
