  1. I have bought several sets of rings, a monomount and a rail from Rick, he’s sound. Thanks Rick
  2. I visited one of the local engineers, they’re a bit rough and ready, but he had a couple of aerosol cans, one freezes the metal, shrinking the bolt, the other contains an oil that penetrates the thread. He then advised using a left hand drill, which may grip and turn it out. He didn’t have an ‘easy out’, but I’ll see if I can buy one, if the drill thing doesn’t work. Thanks again and fingers crossed, I may get to shoot this before Christmas.....
  3. Managed to obtain a die nut locally, a lot more swarf came off than I had imagined. Now my mod threads on nicely and tightens up well. Thanks for all the advice. Now just have to remove a broken off rail screw. Unfortunately it’s sheared off below the level of the action, so not an easy fix. It’s the rearmost one, on a Remmy, so I believe the thread is straight through. Any advice regarding extraction, would be most welcome.
  4. I did end up getting a gen 1 pst 6-24x50. Before I mounted it, I felt the eyebox was very fussy, but once mounted, isn’t an issue. I’m more impressed with the glass than I thought I’d be, and I like the ret.
  5. UNEF has 28 threads per inch, mine definitely has 20, which I’m sure means it’s a badly cut UNF. I took the thread protector to be checked and they confirmed it was a loose UNF, yet very tight on my barrel.
  6. The barrel thread seems on the large side. I took the thread protector along to an engineering company, The thread was apparently very loose fitting on a 1/2 in UNF thread, yet it screws on very tightly to the barrel thread. I think I’ll carefully run a die over it and see what happens. If I’m gentle, it should follow the thread and remove a small amount of material, that’s the idea, anyway.
  7. Yes, first step would be to take the thread protector along to get it identified. Being 1/2 in diameter and 20 tpi, it has to be UNF, maybe just badly cut?! Would running a 1/2 in UNF die over the thread tidy it up? Wondering if this is a possibility? Of course I wouldn’t leave it with anyone, I’d have to be there.
  8. I’ve just bought a used rifle, unseen,(first mistake) which should have a 1/2 in UNF muzzle thread. My ASE SL5 mod screws on just shy of 3 threads, then jams. Diameter is .501/2 and has 20 tpi, so seems correct. I’ve used the ASE on a previous rifle and screwed on fine, so I suspect the barrel thread. Id have to send the rifle away as there are no gunsmiths locally, should I attempt, or get someone more adept, to carefully re cut the thread? There are many good engineers on the island, but they’re not gunsmiths, by any means.
  9. What would be a good starting point, or indeed sweet spot? Shooting 105 Amax Fed 105m Lapua brass thanks
  10. UKV will be the poorer without you, Mark Bradley.
  11. I’m English and living in Scotland and feel no hatred for me coming from the SNP, just a sense of social justice, that more parties should share and comparing them to the Nazi party, just because you don’t agree with their policies, is frankly idiotic. Hatred for the ‘English’ government in Westminster, maybe, but I share that view myself. As has been said, just because we all own firearms, doesn’t mean we all want to shoot the that which promotes growth and vigour out of everything that is legal quarry or support those that do.
  12. Damn,I can’t upload photos. Anyway, the image shows 3 blokes unloading about 300 dead hares from a box van. Can anyone provide a valid explanation as to why this is necessary?
  13. It’s probably a reaction to the wholesale and unregulated slaughter of hare on grouse moors, When you see images like this, it’s hardly surprising, you don’t have to be an ‘urban Greenie’, for that to turn you stomach. It’s fkn disgraceful.....
  14. For what you’re wanting it for, I really can’t think of a sweeter chambering than the 6br. Easy to load for, easy on brass and barrel, easy to get shooting v accurately and 87gr or 105s, fit in very nicely between your .22 and 6.5.
  15. I’m about to mount a scope on an XLR Evolution chassis (obviously on the action, that is fitted in the chassis), which has a tubular fore end. What height mounts are needed to clear the tube and if possible allow flip up covers to be used. My medium Tier One’s are way too low and I suspect even the highs would be. Haven’t decided on the scope yet,but probably 50mm objective,30mm tube. Thanks
  16. Thanks David, great help. I’ll pm you, if I may? Choosing higher end scopes is so much easier, loads of reviews and you generally know what you’re getting.
  17. I would certainly consider one for the right price
  18. No need to apologise,Terry,I’m enjoying it and learning lots in the process.
  19. It’s a huge reduction on rrp. Did I read somewhere USO were no longer making scopes, leaving owners up in the air over warranty issues? I may of course be imagining that.
  20. I’d be interested in 30mm low rings, if you can get them.
  21. Will Tikka,or indeed any other manufacturer of fine rifles, bring out a factory chambered 6mmbr,which has to be one of the finest chamberings ever? I would sell all my other rifles to get a TikTac in 6br. I’m still waiting for a shot out .308 or 6.5cm to come up for sale, but I don’t expect that will ever happen. I can’t be the only one wanting this. What would be the next best thing, at a reasonable price?
