I tried the Satterlee method, for the first time last week on a .260 Ackley Improved for myself. It works. Testing 0.010" off the lands for safety, as I knew the load was near maximum, I got a plateau , and worked from the middle of that. Good SD, and ES.. To tighten the load, i went deeper into the case, with little effect. I then went onto the lands, and one holes. Could have actually developed that load completely, in 15 rds.

i would think if you intend to defraud the VAT man, its probably best not to advertise the fact on a public shooting forum. VAT and tax are payable by everyone, it pays for silly things like the NHS.

Marlin vs Henry vs Chiappa vs Rossi
baldie replied to iamJim's topic in Varmint Rifles & Heavy Plinkers
Marlin every time. They were a lot of dogs about when the factory moved, I bought a stainless one, and could not get it to work. It went back and a new blued one replaced it. I tuned and slicked that one, and used it to good effect in the England team for 3 years. It never misses a beat. The old JM stamped Marlins are coming back down in price again, and a sure bet. The new marlins are good again too. Rossi's are ok, but winchester style internals, which are a swine to work on [as are winchesters ] No experience of Henry , but would love one. -

AI .308 moderator performance
baldie replied to Landyrattle's topic in Suppressors / Moderators, Bipods, Anything else
The AI moderator works perfectly well on a .308. I also use mine on my 6.5's with no problem. I have an SL7 for my .338, and its difficult to tell, but there is very little difference to my ear [ under muffs ] The AI mod, when fitted over the brake, doesn't move the POI on any of my AI rifles, which is a huge bonus. -
If you are bringing the rifle in to me, for the re barrel, i'll give you all the info you need on these issues.

Post 2017 [ i think ] all are fitted with the small pin. [ AX and AT , not the AXMC, though it is available as a factory option ] The only cartridge it seems to give issues with is the 6.5 x 47. I've run both large and small creedmoor on my old AX [large pin ] with no issues. I've just come back from testing my other AX [large pin ] with a new .260 ackley improved barrel. Working up carefully, i've just managed to hit 3054 fps with a 142 grain bullet, and no pierced primers up to that. This was on Peterson SRP .260 brass, fire formed.

Well done Dan, cracking result. Shot with a cut rifled Sassen blank too ? 😎

The lead shot ban on fishing weights sure stopped all them swans, hitting power lines...........

Anschutz barrels are choked at the muzzle. I've shortened plenty, and see no ill effects however. The .22 pellet is hardly an engineered test Dave. Borrow, or by some pin gauges. on a 20mm barrel, you would have been better with an 18mm thread. Have never had a barrel come back that shot worse after shortening, most usually report a marked increase in accuracy. usually because the barrel is shorter, therefore stiffer, and obviously a freshly cut crown.

Actually, you would be surprised. I've changed many remington factory barrels, and dont remember one NOT head spacing. Tikka's are the same .

I wouldn't trust Tikka's chrome moly not to rust. Their stainless does.......

Who would bead blast a chrome moly action ? Its stainless Pete.

This week's Tikka is a 595. It came in for a re barrel in .204 Ruger. The blank is a Sassen 1-10" twist, which have always been exceptional in .20 cal....they just plain shoot. Its a varmint contour with the usual muzzle thread and cap fitted, 11 degree crown. The action was decidedly shabby, so that got bead blasted , along with the barrel, and came up like new. Its a great finish, is bead blast. A wipe over with oil, and it always looks like new. The trigger was completely stripped, and all internals polished. Re sprung, it now breaks at 1.5 lbs. The customer had picked up a GRS stock for it, so I made a new recoil lug, which incorporates the front pillar. A far better, more rigid way of doing the job I think. All in all, a very nice old warrior, which should give many more years of service, turning crows into something out of a Goth wedding....😂

PRS Tank Trap Practice
baldie replied to Ronin's topic in Target Shooting & Informal Long Range Shooting Practice
Sounds great , until you mentioned the Kiss of death Andy... 5 round mag..😀 -
Yep, done it many times too Kev. The remington floor plates have a completely hidden latch now, for just this reason.

I use Sassen and Bartlien on my own rifles, and the same in the shop. There are plenty of good barrels out there, but beware. Most of the American stuff is button rifled [nothing wrong with that ] at CUT rifled blank price. The Sassen cut rifled blanks clean easier than any of them.

I believe geoff at CDI has recently passed away, and the business has closed down ? I will email later, as I bought oddball stuff from them. I use Tier one personally. I like to support a British company. Badger is easily available from Brownells UK. Have a chair handy.
