  1. I hate to make negative comments on that Roy, but If the butts marking will be one man per frame, then its a no go. The state of the frames at bisley is ridiculous. I tore a hernia when pulling on my own, many years back, and as you know, i'm no stripling. I hope Peter can sort something out, because I would love to attend.
  2. Sorry to hear of your problem Les. I've just put an AK47 together for myself, and one of the first things I tried was a side mounted Dragunov scope, which isn't in line with the bore. Apart from the total lack of cheek weld, it works perfectly, at 100 yards anyway. There will be some left/right movement I would think, at greater ranges, but any modern scope will have ample adjustment .
  3. I believe we spoke at length on the phone about this gun ? If you still want a day out, it can be looked over. You are oversizing the brass. I do remember the gun, it was in a bell and carlson tactical, with a Flecktarn pattern.
  4. An old keeper pal of mine, worked on the estate, where he was raised, and was constantly getting in bother, for taking Harry out lamping, because he loved it. If other men did half the charitable work he has, the world would be a different place.
  5. Yes, built quite a Few. My own 6mmAR worked lovely straight from the off, and I got good velocity, and cracking accuracy from it. Subsequent guns were just as good, with just a couple having to be careful with loads, for good extraction. I went that route after wasting 2 years of my life trying to make a grendel work. The 6mmAr is just a necked down grendel, and uses the same mags.
  6. Its a 6 x 32 grub screw. I've looked, but I don't have one i'm afraid, but you would get one from Brownells.
  7. I've one on my workbench, i'll gauge the screw later, and probably have one. Finding AF screws in the uk is quite laughable.
  8. Yes Marine, In .375 and .408 Cheytac. Most likely the way i will go personally. Familiar, proven platform. Easy barrel changes , etc etc.
  9. Of course..... pointless trying to get any wedge out of a Squaddie....its like pi$$ing on a duck's back.......😂 PM me your addy, i'm going to the post tomorrow.
  10. If you want a genuine front end block [with the spigot mount etc ] Matt, shout up, I've over a 100 here....😂
  11. Nope, standard chamber and throat. Its a fast barrel [as most Sassen's are} small diameter firing pin, allied to the SRP brass, and a good stout action. The same load runs perfectly well in my friends tikka, which I fitted and chambered with the same reamer. We are cleaning up with this load in the military F class at Diggle. Its not a stupid load, but I only tend to use Vhits data as a guideline, I've developed enough cartridges to find my way carefully, which is why I'm not going to publish the charge chaps, its safe in the guns i've tested it in, it may not be in other peoples . By far, the fastest, most accurate load I've used in a creedmoor, and i've been building the cartridge about 15 years. Wish I had shares in it !😂
  12. Excellent. That will promote marksmanship, rather than reliance on hardware.
  13. Vhit 160/142 SMK at 2985 fps. Verified on Magneto speed and Labradar. Small primer lap brass with small diameter pin in AXMC 26" Sassen cut barrel. Nice cool powder, with no perceivable wear in the throat at 600 rounds. Wont be bothering with 555.....
  14. I remember painting a Cheytac Intervention many years back. I had to have 3 goes at blasting the action, it was that heavy, I couldn't hold it up, in the blasting booth long enough! What struck me about that rifle, was the massive tolerances it was built too. The bolt didn't have thou's of clearance.....they were millimetres ! Guess what......made no difference to how it shot. To be honest, looking at the vids, they all seem to be bigger F class rigs. Which leaves me cold. If it cant be shot from a normal bipod and bean bag...I aint interested.
  15. Had a good chat to John who has a 33xc and he mentioned they also do a 41XC [408 ] on the same case. David Tubb is a clever guy, all his big XC calibers work on a .338 bolt, they are just necked up to the various bullet sizes. Personally, I think the 41XC may just be too much bullet for the case capacity, but the 33 and 37 should be quite spectacular, and probably more than enough for any range in the UK, though Valhalla could stretch that a bit. Personally, I would have gone 33XC [and still might, once this virus crap is over ] There is an awful lot of good 338 bullets about, in both normal and monolithic. I,m gonna keep my powder dry at the mo. We were displaying the new AI AX50 at the show, and it will be available at some point in .408 and .375 Cheytac....it piqued my interest somewhat, because I dont want a .50. Its a difficult decision I guess for most of us. You have to balance the cost, against possible usage I suppose, which is the beauty of the 338, I can use mine a lot if I wish.
  16. I've looked recently into building something just a little more exotic than a std .338. Initially the 33XC and maybe the 37XC, as they can both be shot from a 338 action. However, the cost of the dies and brass, is laughable to be honest, and I shelved the idea quite rapidly. I will be buying the reamers shortly however . Personally, I think a long throated 1-9.3" .338 will do anything you want in the uk. 1-10" is a little slow for the 300 grain bullets, although my last 1-10" did work with them, most won't. Like everyone, I've seen the youtube vids of the 2 miles. I was, quite honestly, amazed at how bad some of the shooters actually were ? The spotters ? well........... I can't get my head round why the shooters aren't spotting their own shots ? Time of flight is in seconds, plenty of time to get back on it and spot.
  17. Factory guns / The Tikka tac every time, unless you can go that bit more for the AI AT, which is a better rifle. I wouldn't give a Bergara house room. I saw one the other day with a completely knackered barrel, that had never shot right. I borescope it for the chap, and told him his barrel was worn out, and I thought it had fired over 2500 rounds. It had fired a documented 350. The firing pin hole was 10 thou larger than a remmy, and he's never been able to fire full power loads in it, for primer cratering/piercing. And folk say they are an improvement over a remmy....Nah they aint.
  18. What you have to remember with any bush, is that it will only size and push around the neck material that is there. The inside, and outside of a case neck are never concentric to each other. Bushes work good, they work even better when a clean up skim, simply to remove high spots off the neck, is done. I love , and use the redding full length S type die. You can set the minimum amount of shoulder bump easily, and have whatever neck tension you wish, via the bush.
  19. They would make the gun illegal, as in section 5.
  20. Hi Buddy, Yes, 4895 seems to be the "go to" powder you chaps are using to good effect over there. I have 1 tub left, then I can't get it any more, so haven't bothered upsetting myself ! The ES's are around 40, and while its bug holing at 100 yards, those figures are going to be no good at long range. I'm using CCI 450 primers, but may have a play with some BR4's next time out with it. Regarding CFE223, i've tried it in all sorts, with the same horrendous figures, dont rate the stuff at all. ATB Dave.
  21. Its SAAMI spec as far as I know buddy. I'm using a 90 grain SMK, and it looks about right, throat wise ? Not a lot of point in extending the throat for more capacity, the starline brass I'm using can be trashed if not careful, with what I can get in now. Going to have another session with it hopefully soon. I think the powder is right, it certainly shoots, but the ES's are disappointing. I'm thinking that's down to the first firing on the brass though.
  22. The simple fact is the PRL series sells out within about an hour of the entry going out......... People moan about sponsorship, again, the simple fact is that sponsors pick shooters with a proven track record, or go for the up and coming guys who show promise. Guess what ? You have to actually do it, to have any chance. As with all things in life, the rewards only go to the people who are prepared to put the hard work in, in the first place. Its still in its infancy, and I have no doubt that the organisers would love to have double the entries, and cheaper prices. There are only so many spaces per day, that you can logistically get through, due to range space/location. I agree, the rimfire league will be a huge step forward. You can basically run it on ANY farmland, and the list of venues could be 10 time than the full bore ranges we have.
