  1. A good rule of thumb Terry, is Ogive shape. Tangent will happily jump from anywhere, Secant is always jump sensitive. Its a broad rule, but generally correct. The reason I shoot sierra's in anything, where possible. Nothing worse than a bullet that is 5 thou sensitive, its as much use as tits on a boar.
  2. Reading that article, particularly on the "gunsmith" tips on reaming, tell me all I need to know. A guy rang today, wanting one building. i turned him down flat.....
  3. Anything based on a win mag case would be my absolute last choice. There is a truckload of 7mm variants out there, without resorting to a case with win mag problems. 7 Rsaum is a cracker. I've built plenty of them, and its more than capable. Not considered a .30 cal ? the .300 Norma is stupidly accurate, and huge bullet choice. My own , built on an AXMC hit 4 tennis balls in a row at 1000, in the first match I shot with it...and it was windy...
  4. I,ll bet Mick at MYM would make you one Dave. He makes the stainless T8 style ones, I get them regularly for one particular customer. He's up north too. I'll send you his number.
  5. I told you all this yesterday Bumcrack. Its the only way you will be able to use that fat picked up range brass...... Why you no whissen ....? 😂
  6. There wont be any more of these Del, after I've done my own. A right Pain. You need an AK anyway.....😂
  7. Finished this last week, and a right head scratcher at one point. A rifle I built several years ago, came in for a new barrel and brake. Customer is a pal of mine, and mentioned wood stocks, and he had found somewhere in the states that would ship them, so He got us a set each. When they finally landed, they were machined to fit a std barrel with foresight, and not free float. I didn't like that idea, so we sat for hours, trying to work out a way to fit that bloody forend. It couldn't be machined out to accept the national match free float tube, as it wasn't big enough . In the end, I ended up making a sort of mini free float tube, and bedding both sides separately with devcon, to the tube. The wood is American black walnut, and even though, not a particularly striking piece, looks nice now finished.
  8. The remmy .223, and in particular, the tactical model, is renowned for this problem. You have to be extremely careful fitting the extractor. I use Brownell's extractors though, and have always found the to be good quality.
  9. I build the odd .22 AR, but to be honest, not my thing really. As I don't import personally, all my AR bits come from Brownells, which makes them expensive. To be competitive , price wise, in the .22 market, you need to import, or make your own cnc parts, as others do. I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for that personally. Folk buy from me, because they simply want one of my guns, they are no better than other peoples, and usually more expensive, because of the parts situation.
  10. the vertical grip is pig ugly Terry, but handsome is, as handsome does in this case. It puts your hand , and more importantly, your trigger finger, squarely on the trigger, and a revelation. Also adjust back and forth, to accommodate all hand sizes. Dont know what it weighed originally...it wasn't heavy, but the new owner has added widths, to up that, and get the balance point where he wants it.
  11. Now we are getting somewhere. With new brass, the bolt, minus firing pin assembly will close tightly. The bolt , minus firing pin and extractor, will close freely, with new brass. The extractor is definately a 223 model ? If so, its simply, incorrectly fitted. The 223 extractors can be a right pig to fit correctly, and usually get damaged in fitting, unless you do them regularly. A good tip is to drown the bolt head in oil, as you are wiggling them in. The slightest bit of undue force, and they bend out of shape, and won't go back properly. Bend them too far, and they wont "spring out" and follow the rebate inside the bolt head.
  12. Think i know what's wrong. have you checked the ejector ? If you've been shaving brass, i'll bet some has found its way down the ejector hole. Tap out the pin and remove the ejector. Take the firing pin assembly out, and flush the whole bolt with lighter fluid and compressed air. I'll bet the ejector hasn't been bottoming properly, which will make it feel tight on closing, and will also scrub rims. If your not confident, send it up to me, and i'll do it.
  13. That depends on what you have on your license. Is it .243 or 6mm ?
  14. Finished this one this week. The customer had an old tikka 243 and wanted to get into PRL with it, so we hatched a plan. Due to the Licensing dept not working, he decided to stick with the calibre, instead of going 6mm creedmoor. So I fitted a Sassen 1-7.5" blank at 26". M18 x 1 muzzle and my 2 port brake, as well as a Jet-z moderator. Timney 2 stage trigger and aftermarket bolt knob This was cerakoted in Graphite black, and then fitted into one of the excellent MDT ACC chassis systems. These are rapidly becoming the must have stock for this disciple, as they are so configurable with weights etc. The customer shot it in, and then proceeded to work up loads. This one is initial development with 105 Scenar's. Then he tried some 115 g D-Tacs..... One to watch next season, as the lad is no slouch.....
  15. If the gun hasn't been apart for repaint or anything, since it was proofed, then its headspace will be correct, it certainly can't shrink. It hasn't got a "tight" chamber either, that's a SAAMI spec reamer, that hasn't cut more than a dozen barrels now, certainly not in 2010. Its your reloading set up.
  16. No, the cheek is fixed. Its my favourite AR stock, and the Elisio didn't come with one. I had thought about making one up, but time is always a factor here.
  17. Many years ago, i badly wanted one of Gary Elisio's tube gun stocks, because he specifically did one for a 6mmBr conversion, with its own dedicated mags. I ordered one, and then it couldn't be shipped. I've since sorted 6mmBr feed issues a long while back, and built other guns in it. A pal happened to advertise this stock a good while ago, and I pounced on it, in a moment of "want"😂 It sat in a corner, and I kept looking at it, wondering what the hell to do with it. Having sold my last 6XC to a pal, I thought it a shame, I had brass and dies just sat there. I'm a bugger for building guns, load developing them, and then , they become safe queens. Anyway, I had a Stiller Predator lying around, which happened to fit into this stock, with a couple of modifications. Onto it went a pacnor 1-7" 6mm blank, and chambered in 6xc. 24" long, threaded 5/8" x 24 UNEF, and a gamma self timing brake fitted. Trigger is an STL german unit. Beautiful trigger, and makes a jewel look sick. Not a big seller, because it has no safety catch. This stock won't work with a top safety, so in it went. I made up a bolt knob in the shape the elision stock is meant to work with. If you look on the side of the stock, it has a protrusion. You lever the bolt with your finger, whilst pressing your thumb onto this stud. It makes for a one fingered manipulation of the bolt, and very fast with practise. Paint. Cerakote stainless base, with a flash of Copper suede in the pattern. Barrel in copper. The black is Graphite black. Stock is a magpul UBR and MOE grip. A true tube gun, as the bolt slides into the stock. This gives a very low bore/cheek line, much like an AR15. Took several years to get there !
  18. Superb bullet. Always my first choice for a 300 whisper or Blackout. About the only bullet with any real accuracy, when shot subsonically. FMJ's travelling slowly have an unbelievable shock when the target is hit. The bullet won't penetrate, but bounce around inside. Use your imagination. Like smacking a cow on't arse wi a shovel......
  19. i now have finished barrels on the shelf in 6.5 creedmoor and also .300 norma magnum for the the AXMC. I also have 6.5 creedmoor barrels for the AX308 in stock too. Just need painting whatever colour you wish. All made from sassen cut rifled blanks....non of that foreign muck here........😂
  20. Think it has to be an even split Sean ?
  21. It can come and live in Essex.......🤣 It is after, all, a shade of orange......
  22. I've been pulling frames at Bisley for over 15 years, and trust me, on the whole, they are an absolute disgrace, and the HSE would have a field day, if they ever saw them. They most certainly are not useable safely with one man, UNLESS counterbalanced. In all the years I've used them, I have yet to see the counterbalances outside of an F class comp. One hernia is one too many. Hand helds would be great Roy. As Matt says, its the long range stuff , the triples went into, and I think after last years "dumbing down" of some of the long range stages, like the Imperial practical match, they are probably gonna hardly be used. 12's, 12c's, and 14's would make for a far easier time of it. One man can do that easily, and would be simple from the distancing aspect too...really simple.
