  1. I make custom barrels for AI's every week. I also fit the custom barrel to YOUR rifle, negating any headspace variations. 243 is no problem at all.
  2. He,s using a 90 grain berger of some sort....and they stay together. The barrel is 35" long. He,s getting over 4000 fps out of it from memory.
  3. Why not the .22 Valkyrie ? .284 necked down to .22. A friend uses one on varmints past 600 yards. his furthest was a magpie at just over 900. A laser beam with a barrel life of around 900 rounds. I have the reamer....if I could find an excuse to own one...I would.
  4. No I didn't Keith. Zeiss seem to think that everyone uses Mil. I personally think I've found the perfect scope in the X5.
  5. Got mine yesterday, and am absolutely delighted with it. Cant wait to bolt it onto the new AX .
  6. Handled one of these beauties at the show. What a quality piece of kit it really is. The Engineering is superb....no backlash in the thread or movement when traversing whatsoever. Absolutely top notch....I will be having one.
  7. I completely fail to see the point of FFP. Yes, you can make corrections using the reticule if you wish. How does that benefit a sniper for instance ? If he fluffs the first round....he,s in the doo doo. They don't use sub tensions to take a shot either....they dial the range, and the windage in. So does a target shooter. I want [and only use/need ] an uncluttered sight picture with a central dot or point that does not look like a tree trunk on full mag. The glass has to be the best, and in my opinion, a swarovski beats a Schmidt with a shitty stick. The turrets must be clear , not mushy, and repeat perfectly. Nothing else is required in a target scope. Here would be my wish list. Weight of a March. Turrets of a nightforce, and perhaps reticle choice Glass of a swarovski. Leupold guarantee. I,m going to have an X5 for my new AI when I've finished it. I tried one and was mightily impressed with it. I own March, NF , S+B and vortex, and have always wanted a Swarovski, because it has better glass than any of those to my eyes. The new tactical turret is what has sold it to me. Long overdue. Not cheap....the best never is. I would consider £2500 a far better investment on a Swaro than £2000 on a Vortex. In fact, I simply would not pay £2000 for a Vortex. Good job we are all different isn't it .
  8. Yes Matt. The above mod is without a doubt the quietest one I've ever owned, to my ears anyway. It also had the effect of tightening the groups on what was already a very accurate AR.
  9. Had the pleasure of shooting a Mauser fitted with the lower powered model today. It made my Schmidt look sick, just as I knew it would. The clarity of the lenses at all magnification was a joy to my tired eyes. The elevation turret is large, you can easily see what its on, and the clicks are audible and very positive, but not too positive , like the schmidt. Its smaller, and a lot lighter, and basically there is nothing to dislike. I was counting blades of grass and lumps of Lichen on rocks at 800 yards with it. I will be having one for my AX.
  10. Better than a z6 ? winner winner, chicken dinner.
  11. Spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Hatzi at Diggle today, looking at the new Swarovski spotting scope with illuminated reticle. What a fabulous bit of kit that was. He is bring a swaro x5 next week for me to look at , as I think this scope ticks all my boxes. 2nd fp , 5-25 , target turret and Swarovski,s legendary glass which my eyes like. I don't need ffp. to range targets....it says on the range what distance i,m shooting at. Any other gong ranges get a rangefinder used on them. I want the clean , uncluttered dot crosshair. Watch this space for a sh1t and bender sale.

    Which boots ?

I think they are about to land Brian. I opted to pay the customs charge up front as they ship through a company called Borderfree.

    Which boots ?

Just bought a pair of Danner RAT,s from the states. A couple of friends have them and really rate them. Can't wait to try them.
  14. Funny that. One of my friday night drinking friends has just won 3/4 of a million on the Euro lottery. He lives just round the corner. Paddy, the trubore system . I,m sure i've seen this on an American site. Does it adjust axially as well ? I,m guessing it must as the chuck jaws don't allow any axial moment so there won't be a rear spider ? Clocked up at entrance to bore and then further down inside with a long needled verdict ? Do you rate the Trubore and where did you get it ?
  15. John doesn't make actions for DCR...they make their own.
  16. No it isn't. Its made by the same man, but my actions have my own spec.
  17. Mick is right. Immediatly after shooting the 338, i tested an AR15 i,d just finished, with a Jet-z on board. Several people commented that they thought they sounded the same ! Thats a .223 and a .338 ! I,ve seen many designs, and makers come and go after having an attempt. Colin knows what he,s talking about, and has the engineering skills and machinery to back it up. I KNOW you are going to do well Colin.
  18. Recieved a very large package from Colin T'other day..... Between us we had come up with a design for my 338. I suspect Colin thought i was mad, its such a big one...fnaar fnaar.... However having had said beastie out on test today, he will see i was was right... This is a MUZZLE mounted silencer, on my .338. I love that anticipation of the first round down a new untested mod, you just dont know what to expect. There was quite a crowd watching too at Mattersey, and to a man, they were astounded. This baby sounds like a silenced 243...i kid you not. It also now recoils like a .308.....without the stab. I,ve never witnessed such a HUGE reduction in muzzle blast, or recoil from a moderator....from any manufacturer. Colin, you need to be contacting the people we spoke of the other day.....urgently. I also have video of the shots on my phone, next time you are in.
  19. The kettle is always on Brother. Ring me when you are somewhere near. Bring buscuits. The choccy ones.......
  20. Colin, can you give me a buzz sometime next week, i want to go ahead with a giant mod for the 338.
  21. You guys may remember Colin asking for field testers for his mods a while back. Colin called in for a natter and a cuppa one day whilst on his travels, and we specced a mod for my AR. Its a stainless steel model, i think it has 8 baffles, and a front blast baflle, all made from stainless, and beautifully machined, and welded.....absolute top drawer worksmanship. Its about the same weight and size as a Jet-Z, and is muzzle mounted [in this instance ]with a 5/8" x 18 UNF thread for my rifle. Took it to the range and fired a few rounds with the mod off, then we put it on. To say i was astounded would be an understatement. This is probarbly the quietest mod i,ve ever heard. Its at quiet as a Jet-z to my ears, but even duller. I already have an order for you Colin, from a chap with an AUG. It also made my AR more accurate. This gun will normally hold 1/2" every time, with some better, as is normal. It was consistently returning .2 groups, and thats 5 shot groups, not 3, with the mod on. The gun obviously likes it on too ! Its gonna get blacked, then become a permanent fixture. What a piece of kit.
  22. BLC-2 is used a lot in commercial loads, because it is, as Barry says, a ball powder...therefore it meters easily.Critical when loading in volume. Its also very dirty. I use nothing but Varget or Vhit 140 in all my .223 and .308 loads. 4895 will probarbly give similar results, as its a similar powder, and one of the oldest powders that Hodgdons make.I used to use Vhit 133 behind a 55 grain v-max and that was a stonking load. Nowadays all my 223 is 77 grain smk loads. Dont rely too heavily on quickload. Its not the Oracle people believe it to be. It takes averages. It cant account for barrel types, bore diameters etc. Its far better to test yourself. Expensive, and time consuming though that might be.
