  1. As a side note to the CCI Sub Sonic HP's: I adjusted the trigger on my girl friend's Ruger Precision yesterday and felt obliged to range test it. I used the CCI. At 50M the initial group was 1.5 inches. It took another 40 rounds before the groups settled into being acceptable and I know that switching back to Match ammunition (she likes the Federal/RWS) will require another handful of expensive cartridges. I normally don't clean the bore of a .22 but I might have to, post CCI usage. When we are talking $2/50 round ammo I don't care but when it's $14/50 or $22/50 it stings! Did you get your T1X mounted up? ~Andrew
  2. LOVEX makes a powder marketed in the US as "Tactical Rifle" that allows very reduced charges in 223. The data says you can take a 55 grain as low as 2450 fps. They did not list a direct LOVEX designation with the powder (they do for most) but you might contact LOVEX and see what they can offer..~Andrew
  3. Thanks! I have accounts at two of the larger ammo sellers so I over looked Midway. I'll order some.~Andrew
  4. I have had a look for "Contact" and can't come up with them. Perhaps they are branded differently for US markets. I shot SK Rifle Match yesterday and they were not only 100% subsonic, but my Tikka seemed to like them. Additionally, there was only a 10 round.....seasoning? of the bore to this ammo. My first 10 were still good, but the following groups were steadily excellent. (There is something mesmerizing about watching that bullet arc into the same hole as the previous round.) I watched a video on the T1X and the owners inability to get decent 50M grouping and got the impression that he was either cleaning his gun after every group, or shooting 10 of one brand, shooting ten of another, and so on. I know that when I switch from Eley-Primed Aguila Standard Velocity to Federal Ultra Match (rebranded RWS) it takes 20 or 30 rounds to 'settle in' the grouping. That equates to about $8 US spent in ammo to attain optimum grouping. IT was nice to see the SK ammo fall into place for about one US dollar.~Andrew
  5. You called it. The CCI SubSonics had one round in 10 go supersonic and hit about .4" higher than the POA. Otherwise, grouping was about .4 inches CTC. Federal Ultra Match (RWS) shot as well as i could, putting 8 or 9 of 10 into a bitty hole at 50 yards. The KRG stock was very comfortable to shoot and the added weight helped with follow through.~Andrew
  6. Will do. Went to the Cabela's store in the city yesterday to pick up a QD swivel attachment for the front and found some CCI Sub Sonic ammunition which has been a pretty solid performer in both of my T1Xs. (as well as others. YouTube) Since Cabela's seems to be phasing out shooting items -even in Montana- I bought the 400 rounds they had left on the shelf. I'll let you know how they work.~Andrew
  7. The KRG arrived on schedule. I just finished getting it set up. I got prone in the living room just to see how it felt. Excellent. Going to shoot it tomorrow.~Andrew
  8. I saw a review that says it is not reversible but is inset enough to not be a hindrance. ~Andrew
  9. My KRG shipped. Will be here on the 19th.... just to coincide with a down turn in the weather. Of course.~Andrew
  10. I am very pleased with the T1X. I bought one for hunting and one for target shooting. Triggers are great and accuracy is very excellent with a variety of ammunition. I am looking forward to getting the Bravo onto the target model. ~Andrew
  11. Good to hear. I just ordered one for my T1X 22LR to ready if for the long range 22 shoots. I'm hoping they put the jets to my order and get it to me before the Christmas rush hits full bore.~Andrew
  12. Enjoy. I ordered a KRG "Bravo" stock last night for the Tikka T1X that I bought for match shooting.(Merry Christmas to Me) I chose SAKO-green, of course....~Andrew
  13. I am liking this thread. I have been FL resizing for many years as a product of having multiple rifles in the same chambering. Accordingly I have switched from my youthful zeal to have each of my rifles with their own custom tweaked load, to reloading ammunition that would equal the best factory Match ammunition. It has made me pay attention to every detail and in turn, taught me what it important and what is not in reloading. It has certainly simplified my note taking. Instead of stacks of bound books (one for each rifle)I have a file card with the specifics of each load and a foot note as to how it performed in a given rifle. I have a 130 grain Creedmoor load that has been shot in four different rifles and all grouped sub moa and have rung steel to 900 yards. Does it give maximum accuracy in all of the four rifles? Probably not; but all grouped very well on paper so I must be on the right track..~Andrew
  14. (If you don't want the old barrel I'd take it off your hands! ~Andrew)
  15. Big, bright target! I have a vintage Leupold Rimfire Gold Ring on the Brno. Very fine reticle. I think I bought the scope 2nd hand in 1982. CCI Mini Mag 40 grain solid tip is my go-to now that Aguila has dropped Eley Priming. Their 40 grain "Super Extra" was some of the most consistent and accurate HV ammo I have shot. I shot cases of it and got that kind of accuracy. If I got a new .22 and it didn't shoot that Aguila well, I figured there was something amiss with the gun. (The 'Aguila Prime' ammo they sell now is so-so.)Now I use CCI Mini Mag. CCI Blazer 40 grain has been a fairly consistent performer as well. If you lived next door I'd toss you a box of the custom .22LR I had made to my spec by Aguila years back: Their 38 grain HP subsonic bullet at 1300 fps. SD of 4, match accuracy. Kills vermin like the Hand of God. After 16 years I have just 12 boxes left. I don't know what I'm saving it for!~Andrew
  16. Thanks, Amigo. Likewise. This was 5 shots from my old Brno #2 at 100 yards with a 2.5X Leupold scope using the Mini Mag. ~Andrew
  17. These guys had good luck with CCI Sub Sonic. About 2.38 if you don't want the review.~Andrew
  18. Good idea. You'd think for the money they ask they would include a sighting system. If I was local I'd order three of them. As to being a real 'faff' to use, I set up and shoot mine often The only time it doesn't work splendidly is when I forget to change parameters. I use it on 223 and 204 without issues.~Andrew
  19. I generally tell people they should zero at the maximum distance they plan to shoot and learn the hold over/under for distances in between. If you are looking for a window of trajectory, that depends on the height of the scope above the center line of the bore and your ammo.,~Andrew
  20. Do you think that the 53 grain won't shoot if throated for the heavier bullet? They should shoot just fine if that barrel is capable of doing so. I have so many accurate .223 loads ranging from 50 grain Fiocci factory VM loads to my own 70 grain loads that I don't give the standard throat/chamber of my factory rifles a thought.~Andrew
  21. They will be different because they used different LOTs of bullet, powder, primer and brass -fired in different equipment, measured with different equipment. If you are going to reload and understand it, you need to come to terms with data differences and work around it. When in doubt, the lowest charge listed from the powder maker is the best starting point. ~Andrew
  22. Your funnel won't fit a 30 caliber neck? Mine does.~Andrew
  23. Page 13 in the Owner's Manual. If you don't have one, they are on line at SAKO.~Andrew

    Reloading

Been there, done that. Don't. JMHO, of course.~Andrew
