  1. Having just watched a couple of gunsmithing and reloading videos, I am shocked at how wrong some of the advice is, It has really brought home to me that not everyone posting on youtube has any idea what they are on about. If you are like me still learning please be very aware some of the information is very wrong.
  2. To my knowledge, I am sure someone more in the know than me can confirm, and as value for money they could start with target maintenance.
  3. Absolutely agree about Andrew Mercer not being shooter orientated but apparently the next bloke is. I think we have to accept facilities like Bisley have to be paid for, by the people who use it,and thats us the shooters.
  4. Business or not it wasn't long ago it was deep in debt and we as shooters would miss Bisley, I am sure my annual subs are to the NRA. I am certain people get where I am coming from. Not interested in splitting hairs.
  5. What is often missed is that Bisley is a charity, and is run that way, it is not a profit making operation. We may disagree with the way it is run and the management structure. I personally think it could be run much more effectively. But its not long ago it had massive debts and was in a dire situation, and whatever you think of Andrew Mercer he has pulled it round. I love Bisley and would never leave if I didn't need too, I try to be there every weekend and cannot imagine life without shooting there. I accept it costs money to run and that needs to come from somewhere and thats us, the shooters so next time you moan about having to pay for your shooting just think about the costs of running a place like Bisley and be very thankful we have a place like Bisley.

    300 PRC

Go on youtube and watch Mark and Sam after work, very watchable and they are real experts at this long range stuff. Especially watch the episode comparing the 300prc to the 300 win mag. All your questions will be answered.
  7. Bang the butt of the stock into the rear bag, then set the bipod height. As long as the podbag or board you sit the joypod on is solid and flat nothing can go anywhere. and you should'nt need to adjust anything mid shoot.
  8. Re electronic targets, having shot all the F class league shoots at Diggle ever since the silver mountain targets were acquired, I do not recall a complete shoot ever going ahead either due to the weather but mainly electronic target failure. The only shoots that were completed were with competitor marking. Even so electronics, if and when they work, have caused a bigger problem and that is what does everybody do about getting to the 1000yd firing point. No problem with competitor marking as half are in the butts. As for Bisley, there are some very good private markers available, I even had a complaint at The Spudgun Challenge that they were marking the targets to quickly. Anyone who shot the Imperial F class this year would be well aware of the unbelievably bad marking by the NRA markers, truly it was worse than I have ever seen. Bisleys electronics just about work, if they bother to maintain them but most good shooters won,t trust them. Personnally I would always go with good manually markers and pulled targets, the markers are available if you know where to look, thank god for Gary and Paul
  9. Sinclair, best press for feel by a mile.
  10. I had a discussion with the distributor of a well regarded premium scope brand that does not give a lifetime cast iron guarantee. My point is the better the product the less problems and returns he would receive which would make a better warrantee less expensive to offer, the more returns you ge,t the more expensive the lifetime warrantee is to offer. His argument was the product was so good it did not need a lifetime warrantee. Made no logic to me. The only thing against that is it has scared several buyers off and onto Vortex.
  11. Absolutely , how easy would it have been to just say sorry mate decided not to sell as don't need the cash now, sorry for mucking you about , I will buy you a pint when I meet you in the pub rather than having a bit of a dig.
  12. Ewen is a really nice straight bloke, your gun is a fairly old calibre and not in fashion so the barrel and reamer has little value, the action is not a common one so spares maybe awkward to source if needed and the stock is a short benchrest stock and Vince has already stated that discipline is nearly dead in the UK. A gun is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You will probably never get another offer for this weapon and reading through this thread this has been pointed out to you by other people. If you did not want to sell it at the price stated you should have taken it down. and what the buyer wants to do with it is not really your concern once you have your cash. I know Ewen well and if anyone here is at fault it is not him.
  13. I built a 300rum as I had all the bits in the spares bin. I had to back the load off as it was doing 3260fps with a 230gn Berger, the maximum speed for this bullet to stay within 7000joules is 3175fps.
  14. Now starting a 37xc build, the reamers have just turned up along with a throating reamer. I am in need of a couple of 407gn lasers to set the throat length too. Does anyone have a couple they would be willing to sell me so I can crack on please.
  15. What got Joe West Riflestocks started was the same problem. I had a good friend who had a stroke in his right eye. We made him a stock with the coomb cut out very low so when you put your cheek on the stock which was right handed, your left eye comes in line with the scope. My mate shot the rifle for several years. This stock fits a 3 action Sako 75, its laminate. You are welcome to it if you have access to a Sako and what to try it. I think its in the heap in the corner.
  16. We are developing laminate ELR stocks in a thumb up and a thumbhole design these take advantage of the dampening effect of this material, this is proven by the move away from metal chassis stocks in FTR and F open. We understand if people are after a mag fed tactical style rifle laminate is not for you. But if you are building a dedicated single shot ELR rifle these stocks make a large calibre rifle a pussycat to shoot. Have a look at the 300RUM on the Joe West Riflestocks Facebook page.
