  1. I have been developing an itch for an AR15 style semi auto for informal target and occasional bunny bashing. My criteria are for all metal construction, a threaded barrel with all features being functional rather than just decorative… I tried a Hammerli R1 and the fake mag release and forward bolt assist really annoyed me. Function with subsonic would be really useful From my investigations so far the Tippman Arms seems to be ground zero but what about other brands like CMMG, Kriss, Southern Gun Company and Lantac with regards to quality, reliability, accuracy etc. Anyone’s experience would be appreciated! I probably won’t be purchasing this year but it is as well to be informed in advance. many thanks S
  2. 55g Blitzkings were amazing for me in a 1:8 22/250

    Thanks guys, very helpful 👍

    A&D FZ120i

Pardon the slightly rude question but what sort of cost is it to set up the whole kit and caboodle? I have seen the A&D scales for £450 ish …. Is there anywhere better priced. By the time shipping and duty are paid on the V3 with thrower, what did that cost?
  5. I really like Applied Ballistics and find it very accurate when good data is inputted. I use the Doppler derived custom drag curves for all my target bullets and find excellent agreement once the drop data has been trued
  6. Sounds odd, something is varying between cartridges and I can’t see how the rifle can vary that much. I would assume you have verified powder charge and seating depth are consistent and that the same batch of powder/primers are being used and that the primers are consistently seated. Any chance of magnum/ standard primers having got mixed up? Have the cases been trimmed to a consistent length and tumbled? Could there be media left in the cases? Are the cases new or fired more than once? Worth annealing them or have they been annealed? I have only just started out with the 6 XC but I have noticed the Peterson SRP brass seems to handle pressure better than the Norma brass. Im not trying to teach granny to suck eggs by asking the above, but it sounds to be an interesting but frustrating problem. Hope you find an answer.
  7. What do you mean over pressuring? Are you hitting pressure signs with less velocity than you want or a previously good load that is now over pressure? What pressure indicators are you seeing? Would a reduction in charge solve the problem?
  8. Good NV units ... easily 200 yard plus capable with on board IR, more with additional IR
  9. There is lots of secondhand equipment available. Something like this press would last a lifetime for limited outlay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RCBS-RELOADING-PRESS-the-classic-ROCK-CHUCKER-Model-/402804990944?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 add to that a scale, trickler, some Lee dippers and a set of dies any you could make some very good ammo
  10. I have just bought one of these and the image quality is really very good. We could clearly see rabbits out to 400m with an additional NM 400 IR that is not exactly the most powerful of torches. I also haven’t noticed the unit whiting out much. All in all a lot of scope for the ££ Incidentally I don’t know the seller at all, I am just a happy Sightline user
  11. If you want a cheap deer bagging rifle this would be a decent one to look at. 243 is a bit marmite but it has its advantages too. https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/mint-cz550-243-scope-and-mod.212315/
  12. Have you considered the 6XC. I’ve just had a 595 rebarreled to 6XC (1:8 twist) by Ronin and I’m getting just shy of 3200fps with 105g Scenars. I am very impressed so far
  13. He has done his duty for us all with great distinction. Rest in peace
  14. Hi Jan, there is a lot in your post. I guess the first thing is to get written confirmation of an invite to shoot deer then apply for a variation for a suitable rifle (or just borrow one of the keeper if possible). There are lots of serviceable secondhand stalking rifles out there that will get you going. How are you with recoil? The safe bet for non lead ammunition is the good old jack of all trades and master of none 308 Winchester but if recoil is an issue then 6.5x55 would be another good choice. The 308 is great as it will kill any deer at normal sporting ranges and ammo is widely available. You could probably pick up a rifle and scope for 4-500 pounds that will work fine. Something like this would be fine assuming the barrel is in reasonable condition https://www.guntrader.uk/guns/rifles/parker-hale/bolt-action/308/210325161607005 If the scope on it is crap then swap it for a Leupold 6x42 or S&B 6x42 or 8 x 56 which can be picked up cheaply enough like this one https://www.guntrader.uk/equipment/sights-optics/schmidt-bender/telescopic-sights/8x56-210318133432925 a moderator is good to have and easy to find. Make sure you get a variation for one as well and check your new rifle is threaded appropriately. Add to this a knife like a Mora (you don’t need more than a 4 inch blade for most things) some binoculars and a drag rope and you are good to go as far as equipment. Clothing wise just muted colour outdoor clothing. It is a good idea to book on a DSC1 course to give you a level of background knowledge. Hope this helps
  15. Recoil trigger is definitely a game changer for the Labradar. I haven’t missed a shot since I got mine.
  16. I’ve just received and read these documents too. Great news indeed. Let’s hope that this smooths the passage through the planning process
  17. Depends on the case, my 458 Win Mag definitely headspaces on the belt as there is no shoulder! With the 7 REM Mag I headspace on the shoulder after cases are fireformed to my chamber
  18. Ahh I see what you mean, mole grips would work but would muller the life out of the bullets
  19. I have a good number of reloaded rounds that came with a secondhand rifle. I want to salvage the cases but do not want to shoot them. Can anyone recommend a press mounted bullet puller that is suitable for high volume use. I have a kinetic hammer already but will end up with forearms like Popeye if I pull all these with the hammer!
  20. I got sent a pdf with the details of Brownridge. It looks to be a fantastic facility, but for me it is much further away than Eskdalemuir and a lot more expensive
  21. I tried one of these out off the secondhand rack at a range I visited. I would agree with the quality issues but what I would say is we ran a couple of hundred rounds through it in fairly short order and there were no malfunctions..... which is something....??
  22. I use the 100g Barnes TTSX in 6,5mm. Works exceptionally well with good terminal effect and low meat damage, well worth the price
  23. To act as a go between where two main players had a big falling out and to protect the competitors from one organiser, who seems to aim for nothing short of national domination of the sport displaying distinctly dubious ethics with regards to conducting business, charging competitors and running a fair competition, then taking the huff (repeatedly) when anyone points this out (often in a very humorous manner). Is it needed? I can only answer ... do BAIRS s**t in the woods?? .... did you see what I did there!!🤣
  24. I wonder if the organisers friends will get to shoot the COF the day before at this shoot??
