1971silversurfer
I'm just looking for opinion's from 6.5x47L users past and present... I am currently using 123gn AMAX with RL15 giving 3001fps I am also using 123gn Scenar with N140 giving 2783 fps I have not played with heavier bullets as i am getting the results that I need so far. I have RS60 on order for future development. What your favourite?
Bianchi
I have used RL15 and H4350 with heavier bullets such as Berger 140 grain VLDs for long range Currently testing the Lapua 123 Scenars (moly coated) with Vita N150 for 300m work and have identified two good nodes at approx. 36 and 38 grains. Have considered trying N140 as well. What load does your 6.5x47 prefer with the Scenars?
Re-Pete
RS 52 with 123 grain Scenars, and RS 60 with Norma 130 grain Diamonds both work well in mine (30" 8 twist barrel)...............MV's around 3000fps H/man

Brillo
RL 15 for 120 grain Bergers and SMKs and 123 grain Lapua Scenars and SMKs, RS60 for 139 grain Lapua Scenars and now doing load dev with H4350 and the 139 Scenars and 130 grain Bergers. The accuracy of the 120 Bergers using 39.1 grn of RL15 is awesome.

BlueBoy69
RS60 with 123 gr SMKs. Accuracy node for the 650 mm Walther barrel on my Nimrod was 39.5 gr. I really need to do some more testing.
Davy
I shoot 38 grains of Varget behind pointed 123 Scenar. Best described as boring
brown dog
Have considered trying N140 as well. What load does your 6.5x47 prefer with the Scenars? I'd be interested in N140 & 123 scenar thoughts too please - I have lots of N140 on hand, so silly for me not to use it. (Hopefully about to get a 6.5x47 on the road after 2 year gap.) Bianchi
I'd be interested in N140 & 123 scenar thoughts too please - I have lots of N140 on hand, so silly for me not to use it. (Hopefully about to get a 6.5x47 on the road after 2 year gap.) My Krieger 30"/8" barrel responded well to 36.5 grains of N140 with moly, yielding sub-0.5 MOA group at 300m. As 1971silversurfer also discovered, 35.3 or thereabouts might be a good node for non-moly. The ogive was seated at approx. 52.3mm which is a 0.5mm jump. Primers were CCI BR-4. Good luck with your 6.5x47. Tweaking a good load has proven to be particularly challenging.
1971silversurfer
Thanks to everyone that has contributed so far i'm sure this thread may prove of benefit to those who want to go to the 6.5x47L and don't know where to start like i did with powders. I have recently purchased Quickload and all i can say is i wish i had it when i first started with this calibre If i may I'll just resurrect an old thread to shows some of my results with targets for bullet and powder combo's these are from very early days with my gun. http://ukvarminting.com/forums/topic/27861-update-on-silversurfers-bangstick/?hl=%2Bsilversurfers+%2Bbangstick There's obviously a good selection of powders that work successfully with the 6.5x47Lapua, to be honest i've never been bothered with using Varget- I know its a good powder but supply is never easy to attain and i cannot stand the stench that it makes when i reload in the house. I gave my last half tub away. For those thinking of N140/150 check out Vihtavuori load details below: http://www.vihtavuori.com/en/reloading-data/rifle-reloading/6-5-x-47-lapua.html To sidetrack a little I also use BR4 primers with my loads....any noticeable difference using SR magnum primers? brown dog
I'm waiting on a much shorter barrel - 18" At that barrel length, I'm assuming (hoping) N140 will show an advantage over the slower N150 etc (?)

I'm in a similar situation, with the same thoughts. I'm thinking of having the barrel cut so that my Lawrence Zodiac is almost touching my AX forend.Project will hopefully be 6 weeks away from now! Chris-NZ
Varget 38 g and a 123 scenar - outstanding accuracy. Big +1 on that. One holer in mine. We can't get away from Varget here so why fight it. As for Varget having a "stench", I have no idea what that's about! Can't say I've ever noticed. From memory, RL22 might have a smell but none of them are remotely offensive unlike many cleaning solvents. Maybe the poster is super sensitive to the kangaroo cr@p additive the Aussies use. Agreed. Don't have QL for checking the burning efficiency but would suspect that a night shoot could prove to be quite "enlightening" with an 18" barrel, even with N140 but more so with N150. Can you check?

v-max
Hi I use H4350 at 41.4g with 123g A-Max or scenar & cci-450 with outstanding accuracy. 41.7g of H4350 with scenars was awesome too I struggled with American powders & went to N150 in same 123g bullets at 37.5g was very very accurate too. I have Varget as its all I used in the 22.250 but for the life of me I can not get it to do less than 3/4" groups in my 6.5x47 but might try again as I have 3-4 tubs of it. I was looking at ramshot powder but can't get it up here today to try ?
