bradders
That's right folks, I'm away in OZ for a few weeks over Christmas and New Year. There's nothing I like better than a good Military Museum or Memorial, and as I am currently in NSW, not visiting the Lithgow Small Arms factory would be amiss!! So this morning I headed off to the Lithgow small arms factory and museum Along the way I stopped in to meet Brett from our Trans-Continental Shooting FB group, and he made tea and we sat in the garden shooting the breeze. A thoroughly nice chap and we are now firm friends Then he showed me some of his collection, and what a fab experience. Brett has lived in Lithgow all his life, has worked at the factory, helped set up the museum and is also a nember of the shooting club that has access to the 1000yd range adjoining the facility Lucky bugger! He told me that back in the day, if you were a member you could go to the factory, show your membership card and they would sell you a brand new L1A1 :-) The rifles below are his own and all unfired A SMLE "Shortened & Lightened" experimental (96 ex100) A No6 Jungle Carbine SMLE sniper used until 1979 More pics L1A1 receiver forgings SMLE forgings

Chris-NZ
That semi-auto Charlton was made in Hastings where I sometimes work . Our now-deceased clubmate was acquainted with the designer and shot one at times. Apparently far too complicated to manufacture for the small gain in firepower.
