I deal with them in a commercial basis and the organisation is very good. There have been issues with club leases and I suspect some financial mismanagement in the past but they are pretty good now. Everything changes, I loved Bisley in the 1980s, but it had to change and at the moment it does what it needs to. ( I should add that I do not do target rifle and I would never venture to Short Siberia at a weekend! )

We use them at work. (Strike Eagles which get really knocked about.) They replaced everyone we sent back including the one that looked more like a banana. The glass quality is average although they are the IS new scope supplier for the SIG rifle. The more expensive glass is very good.( drums turn the wrong way of course but …)

To be fair to the course suppliers and Lantra there needs to be some accreditation but if it goes wrong and somebody who has done the course has an issue which results in injury Lantra may find themselves in Court explaining their assessment criteria and compliance procedures. There is also a cost involved with accrediting bodies which can be quite high from my experience which probably justifies their pricing. I know the NRA are looking at this and they probably are the best organisation to design the course and assess the students as it’s an essential to keep the ability to shoot reloaded ammunition on MOD ranges It’s a great idea getting clubs to run the courses as well. I think most reloaders work with a degree of caution, but the number of incidents I have seen suggest that some formal training is a good option.

I have done stalking with an AI(AW) and a TRG. Fine for a high seat option but dragging them about! (Same with the LMT308) I like chassis rifles, but my go to rifles for stalking are Sauer202(6.5 or 308) or a Tikka CTR in 260. Under 100 yards.Marlin 45/70. The Marlin is the easiest to deploy and very safe to carry. If I could only have one it would be the Fix which was on sale here

I would go and shoot this but am confused about why I have to have training to do something the I do on a day to day basis!

Interesting project. I used Enforcers and some lighter PH rifles in .222. Both had Pecar scopes on which were a pain in the backside to keep zeroed.

I am not quite sure that is the case for Hythe and Lydd. They have an ongoing commitment but it appears that the booking cell may allocate weekend dates once the programme is known. Of course as your club must be NRA affiliated Bisley and other MOD ranges will have spare capacity. I have my certificate back now as well.

I spoke to an FEO today. They are apparently very busy with 25% staff reduction. Whilst I am sure they are all working hard, essentially the Uk Firearms Licencing is broken and probably needs some new thinking to make it more effective.

I had similar on the electronic a few weeks ago. 3 different types of ammunition, two factory and my reloads. I half suspect occasionally it is me but you cannot see the holes in the paper so it could be erratic sensors….

That is fast indeed,! we try to teach the draw now with a higher rotation point so the sights can be picked up earlier rather than swinging up. Red dots are the way to go of course. I too would be back to pistol shooting straight away. Still shoot at work but limited opportunity now for much practice!

With the greatest respect to all of the comments made I think you have to realise how much the Police has changed over the past 40 years. (Not for the best I should add) I was an armed officer for 28 out of my 30 years in the UK Police and still spend my days training armed officers for different customers. The points I would make are: We train them to shoot to stop people. This may include critical shots if there is a body worn IED or vehicle attack. The officers vary. They get if they are lucky around 15-20 days training per year. (In the 1990s I had at least 50 days per year) Apart from ex forces (who do have to work hard to pass the basic police selection just to be a cop) few of them have used firearms in the past The best students are generally ex forces or female because the listen to the instruction. The training is dictated by the College of policing training curriculum. If you don’t follow it you get effectively shut down. I think all officers should be armed now. (Or at least given basic training) There are a lot of us (the old and bold) who realise this would now be a step towards a more professional Police service in the future.

Firstly this is not intended to start any debate around Brexit! Has anybody else paid VAT twice on goods ordered from Europe that are over the value of 135 Euros (the cut off point for VAT charging)? I ordered from Denmark and paid the VAT as the value was over 135 Euros but of course then got caught in the unavoidable pay the VAT before you get your parcel. (Parcelforce) I doubt if I can claim back the 17.25% but somebody might have tried. Thanks

They are on my list but I am not sure about titanium. I very nearly bought the Tudour Palagos but did not like it at all although I have two titanium Citizens. I think a new non date Submariner is next, but a used Seadweller could be an option ( unless anybody has a 1979/80 Submariner at a sensible price. I am not sure what is sensible , I saw a Defender 90 Station Wagon today which was 15 years old for £19900!
