tisme
I've been watching Sniper 101 videos on you tube. This guy has put up 74 videos, that I've found very help full. What do others think of his advice? Warning some can be very slow if you've not seen them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwG-D0HjCBQ

tisme
What do you think on his idea that you don't need a scope with more than 16x for long range shooting?
MJR
Depends on your definition of long range and what size your target is. Clarity/resolution are more important than magnification but ultimately if you can't see your target you won't hit it! So a good quality 16x scope will be better than a poorer quality 25x scope and exactly how much magnification is needed depends on application. His definition of long range was a coke tin at 1030 metres, I don't think I could see that through a 16x scope.(don't think I could hit it if I could see it)
mildot
always go for a scope with as much mag as poss, providing you have the clarity!!! as you can always wind the mag down or up! that way your not limiting yourself....
Deserttech Europe
The scope magnification range is very much determined by the end goal. For example: am I restricted by a weigh limitation?, will I only be shooting at only the one or a limited band of ranges?, will I need to use night vision?, is the field of view crucial to me?, do I need a large elevation travel range?, does the scope need to be squaddie proof tough? These and many other factors must come into play to make a final decision which will differ from person to person on need to need. Ewen

Ewen I have not seen this scope bit-but Sniper /Rex seems pretty on the ball to me.I would be surprised if he was not quite flexible about scope mag....it would be in his "mission parameters',as in the video on choice of caliber/cartridge.By this he means"What you want to do,and any circumstances/factors that affect your achieving your goal".....basic but very clear, and if others followed, about half the questions that come up on here would not need to be asked! I am recommending the proceedure, note, not necessarily his preferred resolutions.Horses for courses, but it pays to examine the horses and the courses carefully! brown dog
I managed 6 minutes and lost the will to live. The opening psalm wasn't far off the same fundamentalist rhetoric you'd hear from an AQ type; just 'branded' differently - I find that a pretty big switch off. If the info's there, could someone explain who he is and why he considers himself worth listening to? (I didn't spot much except the fundamentalist quote and hear someone reading from a pamphlet in the first 6 mins - is there a provenance piece later on? ) [Yeah, I'm a cynic ]
Missed
Glad its not just me then bd. Looking at some of the material, instructional technique and also shooting techniques I think a few folks I know would have issues with the quality. Ewen As a litmus test, just looked at his inclined fire bit. I zoned out again when I saw mention of 'actual horizontal range'. I think the vids are not going to be my cup of tea. But I'll go Matthew 7:1 on it

I think the vids are not going to be my cup of tea. But I'll go Matthew 7:1 on it While I agee about the psalm at the start,it has nothing at all to do with the shooting related content, tho' it nearly put me off sampling-but I'm glad I did-still only dipped into them.Leave aside prejudice,if any ,about style-separated by a common language,maybe-it is clear generally in his form of language, though he does introduce appropriate specialist terms too-but generally makes it accessible-and does not make the common error of assuming an equation is an explanation! Some commmentary is clearly opinion( eg about scope magnification) but much more often than not,ti holds up quite well-and who is beyond all criticism on such a wide range of topics covered.74 videos is it? Generall, but not always, the gospel that applies is Matthew 7:26 He could use a haircut, perhaps. Gbal PS I have heard much better expositions on religion, but that is a different matter. .
