  1. Sought after BSA MARTINI INTERNATIONAL MK3 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, bright blued finish intact. Beautiful wood in VGC. From what I can make out this is one of the late 1968 models. Right handed, the only one of the series with a free floated 29" barrel. Comes with Brand new unused Shooting Shed Scope Bracket and Picatinny Rail, mounts to side of body. Rifle has excellent bore along with the renown BSA adjustable trigger. These rifles make excellent bench rest rifles as they are extremely accurate. Viewing recommended to fully appreciate. Nr M5 J9. £500 or sensible offer. Prefer face to face sale.
  2. If I could achieve those groups standing, kneeling or sitting I’d be an Olympic shooter, sadly far far from it. Possible prone off a bipod and rear bag, but I’m to old and crook to go laying about on cold floors. For which Seb rest is the bag you mention? Benching helps eliminate a considerable amount of user error thereby giving a better idea of the rifles capability. Still need to master the old wind reading, probably crack it in time to retire. My LV/HV both have flat 3” fore ends, standard for the sport so the flat bag suits. For UKBR sporter the forend must be convex, max 2.25”, on a rifle designed to be fired from the shoulder, no such issues with international sporter though.
  3. Sako Quad Heavy Barrel, which is just the Varmit in a plastic stock, not nearly as classy but lighter. Purchased it blind 2nd hand, worked out well. No tuner. Sling swivels removed as these get in the way. Turned out much better than I could of ever hoped for, intend to use it for Sporter class bench rest as and when that happens again (It will never be able to compete against the custom made or the very nice Swiss guns though). Delta Titanium 6-24x42 AO Non-IR Mil Dot 1/8 MOA. Set at x24 which I always use when ammo testing, helps eliminate some error. Has a fairly fine centre of cross hair which helps. Eley Tenex though RWS R50 produces very similar results. Why oh why does it have to prefer the more expensive fodder. Since settling on Tenex I do not pout anything else does the tube. Whilst this is great for targets I don't know of the practicality, especially cost wise, for non-range work. Tried numerous different bullets to arrive at this conclusion, half the fun/frustration. Not yet worked out the barrel cleaning regime. Batch numbers of the same brand will produce differing results making continuity yet more difficult, aargh. Higher priced bullets tend to provide greater continuity. From everything I've read sorting these is pointless whilst sorting cheaper bullets can pay dividends. Shooters much better than I will take their rifles to Eley's test centre and batch test, when they find a suitable batch they purchase tons of it. The test centre eliminates almost every factor that usually thwarts our best laid plans i.e barrel/action minus the stock clamped to the test bed. Front rest, Cicognani Ergal Adv. Not ideal due to rounded underside of fore end sitting on a flat bag, the rifle has a tendency to cant. A traditional bag top would accommodate the front end better. Lenzi Rear bag. Wind reading is a dark art that I am a long long way from mastering, certainly a lot easier on a range than in the field. Whilst the user is a big factor on the performance managing/mitigating the sum of the parts goes a long way. This is much easier to accomplish in a range setting than in the field. Not forgetting that despite however much you plan and prepare there are many factors that fight to spoil your plans, as so often happens.
  4. Great selection. Enjoy. In theory you get better consistency the more you pay. The next question, grenade into bunker and stand back, to clean the barrel between makes or not?
  5. Following with interest. My personal experiences with ammo, for what they are worth. When initially starting with .22 I tried numerous brands in each rifle. SK seems to get mentioned a lot, they were frankly not very good and I don’t use them. The following rifles have their own preferences. Factory standard Sako Quad heavy barrel - Eley Tenex or RWS R50, pretty much even stevens, both capable of .22 size groups @50m when the planets are aligned. Average grouping, one ragged hole, example targets posted at top of page 6 of this thread. Annie 1903, entry level target rifle. Lapua ammo totally gums up the bolt, after fewer than 20 rounds, causing it to seize though when I can get them working the Centre X and Midas plus are fantastic. I have settled for the next best R50. 1963 BSA International Mk 3 fantastic with R100 whereas the 1968 Mk 3 works best with R50. R50 quoted at 330m/s whereas R100 at 345m/s. Never chronographed so cannot confirm or otherwise. I understand that the R50 designed for 50m and the R100 for 100m shooting. The R100’s leave the barrel at a tadge over the speed of sound (a variable depending on many factors), at what point they go transonic i’ve no idea, you can certainly tell from the muzzle report that they are supersonic. I make the assumption that at 100m the R100’s have dropped out of the transonic zone and stabilised. No i deer, if you can get a higher mag scope it will make a difference to your groupings. Certainly good for ammo testing whether any good fro real time use is a different matter. As well as high mag a fine cross hair and a centre dot will help, all about having exactly the same POA each time. Match chambers heave been mentioned, if you follow any of the American sites, you will find a whole can or worms. It seems that if you were to get a custom built .22 you would probably get the chamber cut to a specific brand and model of ammo. Gruenig and Elmiger, used by many Olympic shooters don’t specify their chamber dimensions but seem to prefer Tenex and R50.
  6. I recently heard the excuse ‘it’s because the barrel is worn out’. 😂
  7. Lapua do make .22 ammunition, their Polar line, specifically for biathlon’s and cold weather shooting.
  8. 👍 When shooting sporter class BR, which must be a mag fed rifle, rounds are always single fed, this not only negates potential damage but also gives the shooter a ‘feel’ of how the round seats, though not relevant unless you have a match grade chamber where the rifling engraves the bullet on loading. Try single loading and see if you can detect any differences even between same batch ammo. All top end .22 target rifles whether Olympic or BR are single fed and without magazines, unless the rules call for a magazine fed rifle.
  9. From my experience with .22 it seems to be find the best round then introduce the tuner. I appreciate it might be a totally different ballgame with CF.
  10. Have you considered a Gary Cane stock? Plenty of ideas on his website. Very reasonably priced and super to do business with. http://www.garycanesgunstocks.com/rifle.html
  11. Excellent condition, little used. Original box. Rings not included. The Delta Titanium 2.5-15x56 HD SF features a 6x zoom makes this model a universal riflescope, and 15x magnification works perfectly fine when shooting at a long distance. The Delta Titanium 2.5-15x56 HD riflescope is equipped with side parallax adjustment right down to 10m. Thanks to the parallax correction and a very good drawing of contours of the target, it is just perfect for very long shots and even on small targets. It is also excellent as an evening scope. The Delta Titanium 2.5-15x56 HD comes equipped with an illuminated (4A-S) Reticle in the SFP format making it perfect for foxing and varminting. The Delta Titanium 2.5-15x56 HD can be used on airguns, rimfires or full bore rifles due to its parallax adjustment. The Delta Titanium HD riflescopes are the latest addition to the Titanium family. The new Titanium HD version provides the user much less "tube effect" than previous models. It results in a generous field of view due to improved optical construction and increased eye lens diameter. Delta Titanium HD 2.5-15x56 HD £650 Ono

  15. Have you considered the Sightron SII 36x42 SFP BRD MOA Non IR Rifle Scope? Used fairly widely in .22rf bench rest at 25 & 50 m/yds. About £490 brand new so a bit out the current price range but a second hand one if one comes up?
  16. At the ranges yesterday and returned these. Standard Sako Quad varmit, Delta 6-24x42, front rest, rear bag. Temperature 15 degrees, well in the car park anyway, wind changeable both in speed and direction up to about 8 mph. First target Eley Tenex, 5 rounds. Second target RWS R 50, 5 rounds. Whilst the Tenex gave the smallest group the R50 returned more consistent small groups. Now if the wind would always blow my bullets in neat little holes, oh well.
  17. Cicognani RC Ergal ADV Titanium front rest. Immaculate condition, little used. PM for any other info or pictures. Link to Cicognani website https://www.varidecicognani.it/en/shop/view/rest-rc-ergal-adv-titanium--P00258/ Collect only, Tewkesbury or surrounding area. (weight about 14 lbs). £475
