  1. Under sections 1 and 2 of the 1968 Act, it is an offence for a person “to have in their possession or to purchase or acquire” a firearm or ammunition to which section 1 applies or a shotgun (but not shotgun cartridges) without holding the appropriate certificate. REF: Firearms_Licensing_Law_April_2016_v20.pdf
  2. You can't take possesion of it unless you have a slot on your cert. Most FEO's are not processing at the moment, is Northants PCC ? I guess you could 'technically' pay for a rifle at any time, but you can't take it away... WRONG ...
  3. I have a couple of old roads sign frames which I staightened up and have a ply sheet in and use sticky tape... I like the idea of Correx

    Why we do this

Originally for cost but then it became additive, like @Popsbengo"the added pleasure of good results with your own ammo is great". As understanding grew the cost factor evaporated now it's for the enjoyment.
  5. I perhaps disn't explain myself correctly although I can't see where I said that the length of the cartridge was directly related to neck length. A consistent dimensioned cartridge will offer a consistent resistance to the bullet as it leaves the neck. If the cases are the same volume and the COAL constant then the bullet is seated to the same depth and the 'release drag' is the same so with a matching charge the pressure will be the same and the bullet will enter the lands at the same moment at the same speed. It will leave the barrel at the same point of the wave and arrive at the point of aim subject only to the perturbations of the atmosphere. Nirvana (not the band, the idealism). If the neck is longer than SAANi - trim it back. A few thou shorter wont effect stalking or varmint shooting IME . It depends what the OP is trying to acieve ... less than 1MOA over 600yds or 1MOA @ 100yds. If the later (1 MOA @ 100) then as long as the case is not longer than SAAMi or significantly shorter (2 - 3mm) then it will make little to no difference to your required accuracy. If its longer 'trim it' if it's (a lot) shorter 'bin it'. If, on the other hand, you are searching to target at distances of 600M or greater (K02M for example) then getting everything perfectly matched to the chamber and timed to the harmonics in your rifle is a must.
  6. As long as they are not a huge amount shorter (2mm say) then it shouldn't (as @Gandysaid) be much if any difference, it depends upon if that difference is cumlative. Are the cases the same volume, is the the COAL the same, is the neck tension the same etc With the same load does the MV change between the longer and the shorter case and by how much. Are you aiming for less than 1MOA over 600yds or 1MOA @ 100yds. Longer than SAAMi and i'd trim them to length, a few thou shorter wont effect stalking or varmint shooting IME
  7. Bullets you mean @Paulf.... the OP is selling Bullets and Dies, it says so on the title and on his hand-written list ... .223 bullets are for a Hornet they are smaller than the .224 bullets used with 22cal CF rifles, like the .222, .223 and .22-250 Remington
  8. Sorry to hear that you are giving up and more-so that this is due to ill health. Good luck with the sale.

    Case prep

If we were to use that regime in Scotland we'd only get the cases dry on a few days of the year (athough it's be unusually sunny of late so i shouldn't complain) What is causing the primer pockets to loosen .... there must be a contriburay element when wet tumbling but it's tiny, tiny. If the head was being compressed you'd think the brass would flow into the cavities and the flash hole and primer pocket would shrink. I always assumed it was the inserting of the new primer that scraped a bit off the sidewalls... ?

    Case prep

I can't imagine that the pressure when firing compresses the head and so shrinks the primer pocket ? Yes it fire-forms the case neck and shoulder but does it change the shape of the body and the extractor grove and head ? I'd never thought about that. I deprime, full length resize and stainless wet tumble with a final check/measure prior to reloading. Occasionally I will anneal ensuring only the neck and shoulders are 'blued'. The body and head are never heated by enough to sften the material. Most cases have quite a thick head too (about 7mm if i measure correctly). I did wonder if I shouldn't deprime prior to tumbling, so I didn't wear the primer pocket, but I can't feel/see/measure any diference after 3 or 4 processes...
  11. Is that brass from the 5.56mm NATO Spec SS109 ammunition ? I believe primer pockets are crimped and needs to be removed before the cases are reprimed, which i'm not sure how you'd do it ?
  12. Mental is perhaps not the right word, our gun laws are born from large commitees who have been 'advised ' by a large number of human behaviourist experts in the Health and Safety field. Most of the commitees that do decide these things are politicians, most of those are 'Arts graduates'. The 'old school' Lords were country house owners and/or retired army officers. These Ruperts didn't really know which was was up and the Arty types hated them .... It is unfortunate that the Shooting Organisations (BASC, SACS, SGA etc) are unable to effect or divert the course of these law making committees primarily because they aren't political activists or even art students themselves, they are farmers, land management technicians, journalists and the odd sportsman who 'have a go' but don't really succeed. Fluffy Bunnies, Bambi and Foxy-woxy have rights too you know..... A typical example of the dissability for the Shooting Orgs to change anything is the recent "medial form" debacle, this also ties in with my previous post where i mentioned rising number of 'conditions' = rising costs. If you don't understand the process that are going on read this ... [LINKY] The rules and restrictions in regards to Moderators is difficult to justify (IMO), classing a moderator as a firearm is bordering on madness. If that was scrapped it would reduce the paperwork significantly which in turn would reduce firearm policing costs and the cost of moderators themselves. I can buy a washing machine for less than the cost of some moderators and if I threw an Bosch at someone it would hurt a lot more than a Predator 12 😲
  13. Is this in QuckTarget or QuickTarget Unlimited ?
  14. haha - couldn't you drill a 12mm hole in the top or do they all swirl around to much ?
  15. I'd agree 100% Thre is a increasing feeling that shooting (control of vermin) is somehow endangering the countryside and life and limb or ordinary folk. There is also a growing concern that people with guns are a danger to themselves and the wider public, These restrictions (and keeping everyone safe) is becoming difficult to manage. As more and more rules are defined it's becoming more and more expensive to enforce. Now in Scotland the Police 'request' that you inform them when (and where) you are out 'shooting'. Common sense is fast being replaced by rules which often don't refect the circumstance to which they are applied. The Health and Safety brigade did make a difference but weren't able to stop. Micro analysing any and every situation that their over imaginations could conjour up the rules have now become in practical terms restrictive (IMO). There are far more dangers out there than those caused by the shooting community. Of 'wild camping', it's the few that are causing the damage. Up in Scotland there is no 'trspass law' so you can effectively camp anywhere. Hordes do around the shore of the Lochs and the mess they leave behind is disgraceful * more and more of these areas now have local bye-laws that prohibit overnight stays. Around Ayr and up on the NW coast carparks and laybys, once the breeding ground of campervans, are now patroled by Police enforcing the no-overnight rule. We live on a crowded island, there are still some open spaces but nothing like there is in the US. REF: linky

  17. Open the photos on your pc with 'Windoes Photo Viewer'. On the menu bar is "Email" ... click on that select "Large: 1280x1024" and click "attach" You email prog opens and you have a draft email with an attachment. Drag that off to the desktop or straight into the message.
