I'd like to add that IMHO, inconsistent neck tension will have more effect on MV, SD, ES or group size than miniscule variations in case volume or charge weight.
But then I could be wrong...................

What Pops said...........keep necking only until they just start to get a bit tight, then a gentle squeeze in a body die or the excellent Forster "Shoulder bump bushing die" until they just go in easily, and your brass will last and last..............
And don't forget to anneal the necks every 5 or 6 firings.

My 223 is a Tikka M595 with a 30" 8 twist barrel.............good fun at 1000 with 26 grains RS52 and 80 grain SMK's or JLK's on a calm day...........

I started with smallbore type mat but found it too thick and soft for grass, so I bought an AIM mat. This was OK, but too bulky, so I sold it and now use these:

I've found them to be brilliant. The butt bag stays exactly where it is, the damp doesn't come through and it's compact when rolled up.

FWIW, I used 40.5 grains of RS60 with 130 grain Normas in my 6.5x47........gave 2940 fps.

You'd only spend it all on ammunition.....................

Surely the lowliest squaddie was entitled to a watch of some kind ? How else could he obey the famous order to "synchronise watches"?

Something like one from this page?  https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/?s=falcon&post_type=product&type_aws=true
I had a Falcon 4-14x44 FFP on a 308 a while back, and it was brilliant.........

ps Opticswarehouse is about as good as they get.............

One guy who used to mark for us reckoned on using gallon plastic containers of water for counterweights................
The leccy technology is proven, and properly set up with fresh or repaired screens, they're great, so maybe it's the ongoing maintenance schedule that needs some attention................

Don't forget the Russians..............chatted to a few of them on Stickledown this summer...............

If you're bothered about staining, (which won't have the slightest effect on your scores), rinse in rainwater or de-mineralised water, and blow dry with a hot air gun.

The GRS hybrid stock is brilliant (I have one on my 6.5x47)...........but for F/TR, I'd go for a proper single shot target action.

Can't you see if it's canted when on aim?.......I certainly can, although I do get into spirit levels when fitting the scope to the rifle.

It's a CG-RPA 2000 (a Quadlock predecessor, with Belleville washers and a 2-piece firing pin).............a cracking strong action with a "tuned" 2-stage RPA trigger that breaks around 300gms.

This place has a couple of likely candidates https://gtshooting.wixsite.com/gt-shooting/rifles
My first 7.62/308 target rifle was an old Mauser from here. I paid around £175 for it, shot it at Bisley for a year or two, then traded up to a Swing Mk4.

I think consistency is the name of the game...........I've heard of american shooters who use a very loose neck, load long, and let the lands seat the bullet.
I plan to try that in the not too distant. It should eliminate variations in neck tension. It'll also need a bit of load dev............

I did say "if"..............😊

Bit of carbon in the neck helps the bullet to slip out easily..............if IÂ clean my cases, I lube the inside of the necks with Lee die lube.
Probably a waste of time, like cleaning the cases in the first place, but it makes me feel good.........😊

Your rifle might pre-date this, however, and I'm not sure if this is up and running even now.
