Inanimate target "Is this the best sight picture I can get,and is it good enough."

Animate target "Is this something I really want to do...it's irreversible."

Safety is pre-established,or sometimes included above.

I visualise my quarries reaction to the strike, i.e. rolling over dead, slumping, falling off a fence post etc etc or if its paper I visualise the strike landing just where I expected it to. Every shot I take I expect to achieve my aim. Of course that isn't how it always pans out but more times than enough it does providing I'm shooting within my accepted current limit, of course this limit varies with the prevailing conditions.

A positive mental attitude is very important in anything we try to do, expect to be successful, don't hope to be.

I also hold onto the shot (with my finger still applying pressure to the trigger) after the bullet has struck, I find its a good way of ensuring correct follow through. It served me well over the years with spring powered air rifles and it translates well to recoiling C/F's.

Pure as emptiness

splashing wet brown river rocks

clear as your sweet eyes

Classy! I'll try one:

Cooper's rules are met,

Time freezes; the glass rod breaks

Mist rises from the wound.

(Haiku are easy.

Iambic pentameter:

More of a challenge.)
