I developed a load that was printing ok.

Problem now is out of 10 loaded rounds 4 misfired, remington 9 1\2 magnum large rifle primers, thats 40%

Anyone else having issues with Remington primers.

Just called a gun shop to enquire about alternatives, he has some Federal, I asked him about Remington primer problems and his comment was "bin them"

This is a picture of the misfired rounds, obviously there is nothing wrong with the firing pin and they were seated as deep as they would go.  Never had a misfire with S&B primers in 4 years!

Yeh, Rem 91/2 magnum primers:  1 in 20 misfire where CCI so far have never misfired for my .338

    Rubbish

I am unable to find any images of the load development accuracy, however, from memory the Bergers provided greater accuracy. Also, when I was using the Bergers, Diggle wasn't using electronic targets so I am unable to compare velocity at 1000yards.

ok, thanks for looking,  I'm stuck like everyone else with no Bergers after I've used up my last 200

For the Berger 185 Juggernauts I was using 42.3gr of IMR4895 (=2629 ft/s average) and now for the Lapua Scenar 185s I am using 45gr of Vit N150 (due to IMR being unavailable) which equates to 2686 ft/s average (usual disclaimer applies about these working in my rifle, don't know about anyone else's).

However, I tried shooting 1000yards at Diggle using the Lapua  Scenar 185s and I was unable to consistently operate the electronic targets (velocity was about 1150ft/s at 1000tyards from memory). In fact, all the .308s on that day had problems with the targets reading the bullet impact. Therefore, it's 6.5 Creedmoor for the longer distances and .308 for the mid-range distances.

Was accuracy as good as the Bergers?

Unfortunately (by some interpretations) this is the rules for HO Approval.
Paragraph Q of the Criteria For Approval in the Home Office Guidance for Approval states something similar.

Also Paras O and P make if very difficult to let outsiders (unknown citizens, non-FAC holders, etc) from having a go or even attempting to join. But if you are a member of the WI that makes things easier.🤪

Take a look at Home Office Guidance, specifically Paras O-Q and Note 13.

This is true but it's perfectly acceptable to match a 'cold' enquiry to a member-sponsor, we do this regularly and use the probation period to make a judgement on the probationer's suitability - which is after all what the HO guidance is looking for.  Only turned one person away out of dozens.

The death of shooting won't be due to the Police, or the Govt. If you seriously think that either could coordinate a sustained campaign to bring about that result, then you clearly have never worked for the Police or Civil Service!

The death of shooting will be caused by shooters themselves. Gun Clubs and the NRA were, for decades, old boys clubs run for the members and without any desire to grow or promote shooting.

Look at the outrage when the NRA dared to charge people commercial rent rates on caravan plots, accommodation and club houses. You'd have thought the world was ending. The highest profile club house was running on a rent of £11k per annum, in Surrey! You couldn't rent a 10' x 10' office in Surrey for that much. Then there was the fact it was a privately owned members club running as a commercial enterprise, not the historic home of SAS shooting as claimed.

People slag Andrew Mercer off for what he is doing with the NRA, making out he is some sort of nasty commercial animal. He is actually making the NRA and Bisley a much better place. If you haven't noticed the improvements, then you probably haven't been there lately. You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

Shooters need to open their eyes, start selling shooting as a desirable sport, support the National Organisations (lots of those slagging the NRA off are neither members, nor use their facilities) , get clubs to actively hold all the guest days they are entitled to have and publicise them in local press. (I wonder how many clubs in the UK use their available guest days each year?)

Take shooting out of the closet, make it socially acceptable and stop bitching about other disciplines.

The establishment doesn't need to divide and conquer the shooting fraternity, they are doing it themselves..............

    Well said.

As regards clubs promoting shooting, we have a steady stream of applicants from our website,  our limiting factor is sufficient training mentors to process them through probation.  The biggest problem facing target shooting I believe is age demographics,  the five clubs I've been active in all have a mean age of > 55,  we get youngsters coming with parents/grandparents but they don't stay as teenagers.  The large majority of my applicants are of the older generations, it's rare to get a 30ish person applying.  One success we can claim is recruiting more women, we've had an encouraging increase all be it from a very low base.

Actually i think it is all part of reducing FAC/SC numbers!

If not by design its definitely having that effect!             Gun Shops are closing as fast as pubs!

Factor in costs going through the roof, components almost impossible to get, Ranges not accepting clubs its the perfect storm again,

Pistols went 25 years ago , Target rifles are next!

Absolutely no one needs a target rifle guys!

paranoia, it's not a conspiracy guys !  Gun shops close due to trading conditions, cost of living, inflation etc

Using your logic, sell up now, it's the sensible thing to do before there's no market.

    Bull ship

its done to try to make any one/every one give up their fac.

No it isn't, that would require foresight and planning across a wide range of professions,  do you really believe that's likely considering some of those same people are pro-shooting ?   It MAY feel like "they" are out to get us but it's just the usual British administration starved of people and decent management.

    Thanks @Richiewand @Popsbengo

Only asking as I'm considering an overnighter in Wales and had no idea on what's allowed/accepted.

Is it with the hotels consent/knowledge? Or just being discreet with it.

It depends on the familiarity of the hotel staff with shooting sports.  Discrete is best.  At the Eskdale Hotel in Langhome it was no problem because it's "normal"

    I doesn't work like that

The police do not want the applicants medical records - they want the medical proforma which is  now part of the application formed, completed and signed by a registered GP.

If the applicant's GP will not complete the proforma (for whatever reason) the applicant can contact Medcert/Shootcert etc and they will contact the GP to obtain the applicants medical records so that they (Medcert/shootcert) can complete the medical proforma.

My understanding is the applicants medical records have to go directly from the GP to Medcert/Shootcert and not via the applicant

    Cheers

    Bruce

I think you are correct, GP to GP.

You're lucky your not in Durham!

I'm secretary of a shooting club, I sent the club FAC for a simple 1 for 1 (sold a .30 mod wanted a .223 mod)

    1. They sent me back a copy of my own personal FAC with the variation to acquire  the 223 moderator on it, a calibre for a firearm I don't even have on my FAC!

    2. They didn't remove a firearm I'd sold and notified them of in June

    3. They didn't add the 2 firearms I'd purchased in the last 8 months that I'd also notified them of.

    4. They removed the 3 empty slots I had on it for 2 riles and a moderator.

So now I have to assume that the details held on the NFLMS database for my personal FAC are completely wrong :(

Tried phoning them several times a day for over a week, nobody answers the phone.

Emailed them about it over a week ago, no reply apart from the automated "we got your email" response.

    Absolute incompetence :(

Better in West Midlands/Staffordshire .   I sent in a 1 for 1 (3 for 3 ?) for three .22LR rifles for my club, FAC returned in eight days.

    Happy bunny.
