  1. Thanks for this. Sorry, don't do FB. David.
  2. Yes, it is one of our funny laws, the reason I phrased it like that is that in England and Wales, you can use a 223 on muntjac and chinese water deer and nothing bigger. In Scotland you can use a 223 on muntjac and roe (they don't have chinese water deer) but nothing bigger. So along the border which is not marked on the ground the law changes in one step. The question is which particular step. David.
  3. 223 not that deer legal in the UK though. David.
  4. Sorry but I meant to add to my my previous post, actually with pistols and the problems with the Commonwealth games in Manchester it appears that actually target sports has had a rougher time than game shooting of various kinds. David.
  5. I think you are being very naive if you think your type of shooting will be fine so there is no need to support other shooting sports. After Dunblane Lord Cullen recommended that there was no need for a pistol ban but it occurred with an exemption for target rimfires, then Tony Blair banned target rimfires. Now all shooting sports have been "left out" of the next Commonwealth Games. I see a pattern here even if you can't. Sporting shooting can show a strong positive link with conservation, with wide reaching benefits for other species, particularly red listed avian species. As far as I can see there is little conservation benefit for pure target shooting and there is continuing pressure to eliminate all private gun ownership. Your branch of the sport might be fairly far along the list but when you are the target there will be no other shooters to support you and quite frankly I see little reason, after your "I am alright Jack" attitude why anyone should. David.
  6. Find a specialist in fastenings and try a series of nuts very gently. It could be 1/2" unef. Still if a genuine 1/2 unf nut screws on easily the problem is elsewhere. This will be a great deal cheaper than getting the barrel re-cut. Also there are problems with leaving a rifle with someone who is not an RFD. David.
  7. Brilliant reply. Can I put in a word for the GWCT the work they do is of the highest level and properly peer reviewed. David.
  8. Well, I wouldn't go so far as to call the SNP Nazis, but have a look at history and see which political organisation boasted about bringing the strongest laws about firearms control. David. PS as a clue it was the National Socialists aka the Nazi party.
  9. I think it is behind their paywall so difficult to read online. David.
  10. Andrew, stop asking pertinent questions. It will never catch on! 😀 David.
  11. Will this fit a 452? I don't need one but it might broaden the appeal if it does. Best of luck, David.
  12. Really just idle curiosity because it came up in conversation but did the CZ 550 action come in various lengths. I always thought that they came in one length and the bigger magnum action but I recently heard different. There must be a proper rifle builder on here who genuinely knows! Many thanks, David.
  13. I am afraid, early mosquitos were bonded with cascamite, later ones with aerolite. Araldite was invented in 1946, post most mosquitoes. David.
  14. If you saw me it would be less of the minor, more of the major. David.
  15. Well I am sorry if I caused offence by being thin skinned but often the only way people know you are jesting is to use emojis. There is no tone or smile on the web. Also Bradders to be fair you had just been rude about someone because he hadn't said thankyou. Maybe he should have, maybe he just forgot but you certainly didn't give out the feeling that you joked a lot and then the post about people shooting at short ranges sounded fairly abrasive to me. David.
  16. Why don't we all start fighting amongst ourselves? After all it isn't as if anybody else is out to get us! Let people do what they enjoy. I mean if you are a stalker the plan is to get reasonably close anyway. As long as people are safe, have fun I say. David.
  17. No, not many trees up there. Still the goose shooting might be OK. David.
  18. I do understand the attraction of firing the odd big round, but to soak up the recoil it needs to be heavy so that means because we don't have dangerous game in the UK it all seems a bit pointless to lug the weight around so mostly it is likely to be a range plaything and certainly no worse for that. Perhaps I am just getting to be a grumpy old weak git. David.
  19. I have a couple of them as well. Very strong and take a great edge. Never seen one with "yoohoo I'm over here" type handle. David.
  20. Couple of Mora with orange handles. David.
